State-of-the-art and perspectives of geothermal energy utilization in Iceland

This thesis focuses mainly on the Iceland area and deals with the geographical and geological conditions within the context of geothermal energy. The thesis also focuses on history of Iceland, past and current utilization, tries to summarize basic types of acquisition and evaluates advantages and disadvantages of geothermal energy. The end of the thesis focuses on the latest projects, which interfere in the nearest future. Especially, the thesis is concerned with the IDDP project, which aims to drill into unknown conditions close to the magma chamber.
Specification of the geothermic model in the environs of several selected boreholes

With the advances in research of the Hot Dry Rock environment and Enhanced Geothermal Systems, geothermal energy is soon going to compete with other unconventional energy resources in Europe where Germany and France are pushing the research ahead. In the Czech Republic, the geothermal exploration borehole drilled in Litoměřice in 2006 - 2007 provided information that contributed greatly to the understanding of geothermic conditions in the country. In addition to Litoměřice, two other areas have been recently subject to geothermal exploration: Semily and Liberec. These three areas have been studied in detail in this Master's thesis to assess their geothermal potential. Information on the geology of the selected areas was gathered from numerous scientific papers and reports and was compared with information from geological maps and boreholes. On the basis of this information, geological sections of the area of Litoměřice and Semily were compiled. Drill core samples from five boreholes from the geological units in the areas under investigation were collected and measured using the Lippmann & Rauen Thermal Conductivity Scanner. System Proposal for the Use of Low-potential Heat

This bachelor thesis deals with the problematics of a low-potential heat from the energetics point of view. It also deals with the sources and subsequent use of the low-potential heat. First of all, the thesis mentions the origin of these sources and also describes where they can be found. Also the technologies, that are able to utilize this heat, like heat pumps and solar collectors, are mentioned in this part of the thesis. In its next part, the bachelor thesis deals with use of the waste heat for heating and production of electrical energy. In the last part, the thesis presents the project that introduces a specific concept of the system for object heating from the waste heat.

Supervisor's e-mail address: karous@geonika.com The topic of this thesis is a literature search of geological, geophysical, and geothermal information about wider surroundings of the area of Nova Paka and a complete geophysical survey focused on mapping of deeper fault zones and verification of Permo-Carboniferous sediments thickness. The area has been preliminarily assessed as promising for the use of deep geothermal energy. It belongs to the south-western part of Krkonoše Piedmont Basin. The bedrock of the basin is formed by Proterozoic metamorphites. Heating of surrounding rocks by intrusions of local volcanics during the Younger Tertiary is considered important for geothermal applications. The cover of metamorphic bedrock by sediments may indicate accumulation of the heat from the bedrock at relatively shallow depths of several hundred meters. Barriers of renewable sources expansion in the Czech Republic

Currently, there is no publication that concerns the renewable resources comprehensively in the Czech Republic. This publication defines the renewable resources in general meaning. Whereas the physical and legal definitions of the renewable resources are different, text explains the principle of production of electricity according to the legal definition. When the renewable resources are being constructed, it's important to achieve the optimal operating conditions. To achieve these conditions, it's necessary to locate the renewable resource in the Czech Republic. The operations of renewable resources are partly financed by the country, in order to be more interesting for the investors. Further on, the conditions of connection to electrical distribution system are defined. The impact of renewable resources on electrical distribution system. Finally the conception of renewable electrical energy resource for region of East Bohemia is designed.
Low potential heat for electrical power generation

This bachelor’s thesis deals with low potential heat sources for electrical power generation. It mentions primarily low potential heat sources, their distribution by origin and where you can find such resources. Another part deals with the technology that uses low potential heat to heat production of higher temperature level and power generation. These are discussed here with a heat pump, regenerative heating, Stirling engine, solar collectors, Peltier cells, etc. In addition is to their use in practice. The last chapter deals with the replacement of the heater in the regeneration heating coil from the solar collectors. It is thus the use of renewable energy sources. Carry out technical and economic calculations for the real utility of such a plan.
Utilization of renewable energy sources in Czech Republic

This thesis deals with consideration of energy facilities structure in Czech Republic. It is depicted in it their evolution from point of: electric energy consumption, structures of energy facilities and electricity prices. Further, is here depicted a production of electric energy for the year 2009, from the point of: produce, sources, consumption and ratio of factories. Of course, the RSE (renewable sources of energy) effect and share of scope on this evolution and structure, is also mentioned here. The next part is pointed to basic description of each sources of electric energy. It is not mentioned here only factories which uses for it´s production renewable primary sources but also another types of factories. Their pros and cons are also summarized. The last part of this work is a thought of realization of fictive project, which could replace a part of steam power plants' share by producing electric energy through renewable sources. It is re-counted and suggested here a few possibilities of this realization from the point of needed installed power and approximate estimation of capital expenditure.
Design Kalina cycle for geothermal power plant and its turbine.

This master’s thesis analyses Kalina cycle, a power cycle where ammonia – water solution is used as a working fluid. The first part of this study introduces us to the Kalina cycle, presents its advantages and disadvantages, characteristics of the working fluid and its applications. Second section concerns with the method of cycle design and describes the calculation model made in this thesis. The calculation model is attached in a separate .XLSM file. The third part shows calculation of the cycle for given parameters, determination of cycle efficiency and main proportions of the thermal turbine. In the conclusion are the interpretations of the calculations results.
Using renewable energy sources

Thesis deals with the issue of renewable energy sources. It contains the description of their usage at present as well as the possibilities of their installation. When dealing with the individual types of sources the thesis states their advantages, disadvantages and the facts concerning their further development. Technical development brings us new and perspective types of renewable energy sources, the description of some of them can be found in the thesis as well. The second part of the thesis is focused on the solution of electric power supply for a holiday cottage. Authonomy photovoltaic system is suitable for its application. The system is designed to have an ability to supply electrical units in the cottage during the whole year. To be able to consider profitability of the photovoltaic system installation the thesis contains the project of low voltage energy branch connection. This branch line of 1200 m in length is properly designed and the thesis states its capital costs as well. Financial comparison of the photovoltaic system costs on the one hand and the costs of low voltage branch line on the other hand in the next 30 years of usage proves the profitability of the photovoltaic system.
Utilization renewable energy sources inside of EPS Czech Republik

The purpose of this work was the analysis of current state and further development of renewable energy in the Czech Republic. And next their effects on the electricity system of the Czech Republic. On the basis of established facts has been developed actual state of renewable energy sources. The current situation is only orientation and is still changing at this time. Another objective was to evaluate the various renewable energy sources in terms of their impact on the electricity system and recoverability in the Czech Republic. In more detail were read up the conditions for the wind power plants operation and their connection to the electricity system of Czech Republic. In fine were discuss the impact of renewable energy sources on electricity system and prerequisite for their further development in the Czech Republic.
