Ethnography of research object in knowledge production practices: Configurations of materiality, discursivity and agency.
Górska, Magdalena ; Kiczková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
Thesis investigates performative processes of research object materialization in everyday research practices enacted in a scientific laboratory examining biosynthesis of pheromones of bumblebees. Drawing attention to the simultaneous continuities and transformations that are characteristic for the specific materialization processes of the research object, the thesis attempts to question anthropocentric accounts of cognitive practices of science and focuses not only on human but also on non-human agency. It also attempts to challenge conceptualisation of matter as passive and essential entity which is grounded in positivist and representationalist accounts of science and knowledge. Instead, it aims to understand materiality and diskursivity as mutually and onto-epistemologically constitutive. The thesis also marginally focuses on the contemporary research policies and managerial and evaluation systems that are discussed here as normative actors transforming concept of science and agentially constituting research object enactment in everyday research practices. These debates are grounded in a posthumanist materialist framework that builds on literature in science studies (Actor-Network-Theory in particular) and feminist materialism of Karen Barad and Judith Butler.

IP telephony for medium and large companies
Jirák, Tomáš ; Pokorný, Pavel (advisor) ; Jelínek, Jiří (referee)
In this graduation thesis wants introduce possibilities of voice transportation in IP networks like Internet. There are described behaviors of IP network, internet connectivity possibilities, voice protocols included Skype and economical outputs. There are mapped positives and negatives of technology including implementation issues. All economic comparisons are made to Telefonica O2 Czech Republic Inc., which is still telecommunication company with majority in the Czech Republic. There are compared samples of VoIP providers with preferences like company live time, lowest cost and guaranteed quality. Description starts with model situation and continues to real case studies. Case studies describe economic calculation, implementation and target analysis. There are three case studies: small company with fast migration in one time, medium company witch accelerated migration in two steps and large company with conservative and control migration in three steps.

Redesign of information systems in multimedia laboratory(GML) on VSE
Burda, Adam ; Horný, Stanislav (advisor) ; Krsek, Libor (referee)
This paper aims to describe and propose solutions to problems impairing the functionality of the Prague School of Economics' Graphics and Multimedia Laboratory (GML). The problems to be solved arise in the current information technology devices, more specifically in data back-up, usuitable hardware and lan connection as well as missing software. Finally, the paper discusses the idea of puchasing devices to be used outside the GML. The multimedia laboratory is concerned with issues relating to graphics creation and video adjustment. The solution put forward in this paper proposes using specific hardware designed for editing and graphics applications. While an effort is made to seek a multiple solution, the proposed adjustments require purchasing new hardware and software which are innovative if rather costly. Financially demanding as those are, both the optimal and the more budget-friendly options are introduced. Finally, an overview table summarises the costs, supplemented by detailed calculations. The solutions proposed are based on generally accepted procedures. These are modified in view of the author's experience of network administration and devising specific coputer systems.

Calculation of the spatial distribution of precipitation by various methods and evaluation of the difference in totals of rainfall in a chosen catchment
VÁVRA, Miroslav
This thesis engages various methods of calculation of the spatial distribution of precipitation and the evaluation of differences in totals of rainfall in a chosen catchment. The aim of this work was to choose suitable methods for the calculation of areal rainfall and subsequently to create those methods. Most methods were developed in the GIS program. The next objective was to explore differences in monthly precipitation from hydrological years 2006 and 2007 calculated in the catchment by chosen methods. Chosen methods for the calculation of the spatial distribution of precipitation in the catchment were: arithmetic mean, Thiessen polygons, isohyetal method and inverse distance weighting method. (IDW). As a suitable catchment was selected the catchment of the Kopaninský stream where relatively dense rainfall measurement network is installed. During the solution of this thesis the area of interest had to be extended by the area between the used rain gauges which was delimited in the GIS program. The reason for an enlargement was a fact that a decomposition of rain gauges in the catchment of the Kopaninský stream did not permit the creation of isohyetal lines in this whole catchment. During the calculation and the comparison of results of individual methods was found that results of used methods were surprisingly nearly the same. It was also stated that not even sufficient dense rain gauges network does not guarantee 100% exactness for calculating the amount of the precipitation in the selected area because of their extraordinary variability.

Shared Board
Řezník, Jaroslav ; Mazal, Zdeněk (referee) ; Vojnar, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of the "Shared Board" project is to design and implement an application that will allow a real-time collaboration on workgroup projects in a network environment. The communication can be accomplished using Instant Messaging or multimedia whiteboard with a possibility of drawing, attaching interactive objects and combined with voice and video communication. The term project part solves utilization of interactive whiteboards, design of communication protocol and grafical user interface. Implementation is solved as masters thesis part.

The region, regional policy of the European Union and enlargement 2004
Býma, Petr ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (referee)
The thesis deals with a region as a basic building unit of the regional policy of the European Union, describing the formation and development of the European regional policy as supranational one and therefore unique on a global scale. With the increasing regional policy budget (this policy being the second most expensive in the Union), the influence of regions proper is growing as well: they are becoming more independent and emancipated. In the running process of globalisation, regions with the highest added value seem to be the best off: innovative regions with qualified labour and a strong connection with the supranational business and information networks. Metropolises, or urban centres, are faring the best in the global competition. The role of these central areas is growing stronger. The task of the regional policy is to balance the differences between these richer, central areas, and peripheral, poorer regions. The enlargement of the European Union by adding ten new member states in 2004 has been accompanied by regional policy reforms as there has been a sharp increase in the number of less developed regions, i.e. those that are entitled to draw upon funds of the European regional policy. Opinions on efficiency of the said policy differ: its proponents see it as the main tool of regional convergence...

HOMOLKOVÁ, Petra
The goal of my work is to analyze the market position selected company and suggest improvement in its market position and to analyze its competitive environment. I chose the company OVB Allfinanz a.s., which operates on the Czech market for 44 years. My work consists of two parts. The first part describes the theoretical knowledge concerning strategic management and analysis, explanation of terms of competition, competitiveness and other related terms such as: generic competitive strategies, SWOT analysis and Porter's model of competitive forces. In the second part I will focus on the SWOT analysis and Porter model. I also focused on the analysis of competitors in the field of insurance brokers. The results are based on information obtained from the questionnaire survey. I also used the method of controlled interviews with successful regional group leader ProfiFP and thus I gained not only credible information about the company, but I could use my experience, when I am working for OVB. From the obtained data I proposed possible improvements for company .
