Halamíček, David ; Stracený, Josef (advisor) ; Samek, Tomáš (referee)
The work is dealing with Vaclav Havel's second presidential term, namely with three aspects which were determining fulfilment of his duties. It is specifically focusing on break up of Czechoslovakia, economic transformation of the country and Havel's opinion of voting systems. The work is trying to prove interconnection of these three points and offers a detailed insight into the matter. It then shows that Vaclav Havel as the last Czechoslovak president had to face these issues and lead an uneven battle with them. There is a stress on shorter two year term of lawmakers which influenced negative development in both parts of the country and why Havel insisted so much on it. KEYWORDS Break up of Czechoslovakia, economic transformation, electoral system

Hoferek, Jan ; Höfer, Karel (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to analyse and compare mixed-member electoral systems and their consequences in cases of Bolivia, Germany and New Zealand. The text is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces mixed-member electoral systems in general, existing research in this area, main variables of mixed-member electoral systems, and their key typologies by Massicote & Blaise and Shugart & Wattenberg. In the second chapter, causes of electoral reforms, their circumstances, main actors and their preferences are analysed. The description of individual cases is followed by cross-comparison. The final chapter concerns itself with the consequences of electoral reforms and their influence on party and political systems, as well as with changes in the candidate selection process or their individual characteristics. The description is also followed by comparison among researched countries. The main focus of this comparison is on selected characteristics of political systems: volatility, voter turnout, disproportionality and effective number of parliamentary parties. These are calculated with established statistical tools: Gallagher index, Pedersen index and Laakso-Taagepera index.

Voter Perception of the Electoral System for Local Elections
Palkosková, Lucie ; Jüptner, Petr (advisor) ; Trávníček, Matěj (referee)
1 Abstract This paper tries to demonstrate an incorrect perception of the Czech municipal electoral system by voters. In order achieve this aim I identified the following research questions. Firstly, what is the perception of preferential voting by voters in the Czech local electoral system? Secondly, do voters use a strategic voting in the municipal elections? Thirdly, is there some influence on voters' decisions depending on the form of a candidate subject? These questions were answered on the basis of my own research, which took place in a chosen municipality. I showed that voters perceive preferential voting by the wrong way, which primarily comes from their low awareness of the electoral system. Furthermore, it was found that the different perception of the candidates affects a voter behavior. Unfortunately, whether voters use a strategically choice in municipal elections, I could not prove it.
