Vítková, Kateřina ; Odvárka, Antonín (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
It is a project of a transfer terminal in Dvur Kralove nad Labem, which is to allow easy transfer of train / bus. New terminal include additional features and services. I also focused on the connection to the surroundings, creating a new vision for the solution of the whole territory, which border street 28th of October, Benesovo nabrezi, Alesova and Dvorakova streets. Along the Alesova Street are designed multifunctional houses with underground parking. Between the terminal and the residence there is a park that allows access to the train and bus in several directions. On the side of Benesovo nabrezi, I placed an indoor pool with a wellness center. There is also a café with an outdoor terrace, a bicycle storage room, a bicycle rental and an information tourist center. The main station building also includes a post office, a grocery store and a bakery.

The project deals with the architectural and urban design of the new transport terminal in Dvůr Králové nad Labem. The terminal has to associate the current bus lines and also the train, which is newly brought to the city by the tracks of the existing siding. The location of the terminal is the prime impetus for the development of the entire adjacent site. The site is influenced by busy transport and the surrounding area, which consists of industrial plants, a supermarket hall and fragments of the original buildings. The proposal works with the current situation and existing barriers but is open to future changes in the territory. The individual buildings are located on the imaginary axis leading from the parcel to the city center and thus direct pedestrian movement in the intended direction. The transport solution follows the current location of the sink leading to the heating plant, to which the bus transport circuit is added. In the circuit´s center, a pleasant space for waiting and safe transfer between lines is created. Trains and buses have a common main building that hides all necessary terminal functions. The terminal is also connected with newly designed public space where the markets and city festivals can be held. This space, amongst other functions of the terminal therefore serves not only passengers but also the inhabitants of the city.

The goal of the thesis was to create a transfer terminal for bus and train traffic which would reroute the entire local and intercity transportation into one spot closer to the city center. The plan is divided into three zones with each fulfilling its role by its location. A transfer bus and train terminal is conceptualized in the center of the of the building plot as the most prominent point. Administrative buildings are located to the south of the terminal so as to separate the building plot from the factory located underneath. Civic amenities are located north of the terminal which are used by the travelers and citizens from the area further north from the building plot. A small city park is located near this zone with respect to the large amount of greenery on the entire building plot.

Project focuses on terminal in Dvůr Králové. Addressed area is part of brownfield in southern part of the city, located on place of railroad track from 19th century. Projekt is based on understanding the terminal as a living public space. Terminal means movement. Passenger are moving. However, when this purpose is fullfiled, the place stays empty. The aim of the project is to create public space – centrum of meeting and time spendinf for citizens. Urbanistic solution respects the qualities of the space and uses the original placement of railrioad track. Volume reacts to unstebilized spaces around by being circular and creating its own inner space. Building has significant lienar horizontal character, which is being disturbed by dense ammount of pillars and wooden lamellas on facade. Those provide partial shading of the interior. Building structure is based on reinforced concrete skeleton.

The main objective of the proposal was not to create a barrier for the inhabitants or tourists by integrating transport on this parcel, leaving it as far as possible to the pedestrians. Movement of pedestrians and vehicles should not cross. The new tracks are therefore moved to the existing siding. Bus traffic should take place at busy local roads. The terminal building is in the center of the plot and is a link between bus, train, car and pedestrians. Thanks to the selected transport solution, the parcel is free from the traffic barriers and there is a free pedestrian spread. At the same time, the transport solution does not allow the free passage of the population to the south. The location of the scatter surface naturally guides the visitor and the inhabitants of the city to their area of interest - a departure from the industrial part of the city.

The use of the railroad siding for the passenger train will significantly increase its traffic. Because the track will be electrified, crossings and pedestrian crossings will have to be defined. The railroad, which will help the city and its inhabitants, will thus paradoxically become a constraint preventing future and future development. That's why I decided to take part of the track along the railway viaduct. The viaduct is subdued. It provides travelers with insight into the landscape they are passing through. It offers a view of the city from a different perspective. This is the "gateway to the city" in my proposal. Viaduct is conceived as a structure in the landscape, which is, besides rail transport, also a carrier of other functions. It is permeable both transversely and longitudinally. Longitudinal permeability defines the path, transverse interconnections. In the country the route is predominant. Under the Viaduct, you will find a cycle path, an in-line track and a hiking trail, which continues on to other trips around. The closer the viaduct is to the city, the more it fills up with individual operations until it is completed by the terminal hall.

The content of the work is the design of the transfer terminal in Dvůr Králové nad Labem, which combines bus and train transport. This way, a new public meeting space for passengers has been created and is being solved complexly throughout the block. The newly established communications form an imaginary axis parallel to the surrounding roads, heading for the city center and is aimed primarily at reviving the city.

The terminal is becoming a heart of traffic in Dvur Kralove nad Labem. Linking of train and bus transport is inspired by a shape of a “courtyard” - open space, that is surrounded by buildings. This is a stage where acts of transportation, meetings, happiness and worries take place every day. Space has been designed so people don’t only use it for a purpose of transport, but also to enjoy moments of free time. The appearance gives a futuristic impression, however respects city’s history and tries to enrich its surroundings, so it doesn’t become just another place where people like to spend their time. Although trains and buses enter terminal from 21st century, design respects also its history as well as surroundings and use a form and function to promote them. “courtyard” terminal is a place for meetings and goodbyes, where a time flows and journey to adventure begins.

The new transfer terminal in the former royal town of Dvůr Králové nad Labem brings together and connects public transport with individual. The main objective of the proposal is the functional merger of public bus and suburban bus services, pedestrians and the introduction of train connections on the existing siding. At present the town is mainly associated with the ZOO Dvůr Králové and is perceived more as "Dvůr by ZOO" then city itself with history. As a result of popularity of ZOO city loses a substantial part of the tourists. Concept of design is based on lines that lead or guide the passenger to the given points of interest in the city, but the primary remains a clear open space with direct links to the surroundings - the city. The proposal focuses on passenger comfort and easy orientation in space in response to the anticipated development of the structure and infrastructure of the city with the restoration of its identity.
