Children's perception of old age in the context of media representations

This bachelor thesis focuses on children's attitudes towards old age and seniors in the context of media representations. The part of the thesis that draws out the literature defines the issues of media representations, social and media construction of reality, discusses the influence of the media on children's audiences, defines old age and the position of seniors in society, and finally outlines the way seniors are presented not only in children's media. The research part of the thesis clarifies the issue of the perception of old age by children aged 9 to 11 in the context of media representations in relation to the studies already conducted. Within the framework of its own research, it explores, through individual in-depth interviews, the child participants' perceptions of the elderly, their lives and their position in society, and the role of the media in this process. The study found that children most often characterise the elderly through external features and think of them in very stereotypical ways. They see them as a homogeneous group of people with frequent health problems, who live alone, primarily meet the needs of others, obtain a lot of knowledge and are wise. It also describes dynamical alterations in human needs hierarchy during aging, which are inherently related to changes in old age. Elderly people as voters and their attitude to the slogans about social security

The thesis deals with elderly people as voters and their attitudes towards slogans about social security. It examines electoral behaviour and preferences of elderly people and the influence od age on their voting decisions. Part of the thesis is devoted to the slogans od political parties, which are an important part of the campaigns and provides an comparison of election programes of parties in context of social security. The aim of the empirical work was to ascertain the views and attitudes of elderly people to particular slogans about social securities used in election campaign to the Chamber of Deputies in 2010.

Status and perspective of old people in the Czech society

This text is focused on status and perpectives of elderly people in the Czech society. First, author tries to indroduce old age as a stage of life from the biological, psychological and social points of view and also point to demographic context of this issue. Further she focuses on older people from the point of view of their social role and possibilities od their social realization. In conclusion of the text athor indroduces results of qualitative study which brings senior's point of view on the issue. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to disprove some myths about old age and older people, especially the myth about old age as period of relaxation and a period "without any role".
