Theory vs. practicality - current state of television reportage on the ČT24 and CNN Prima NEWS channels with focus on the parlament election of 2021
Svoboda, Ondřej ; Lokšík, Martin (advisor) ; Géla, František (referee)
The goal of this magister thesis is to find out how much the current appearance of the genre of the "television news reportage" corresponds with theory. It also compares how much, if at all, it differentiates between the two main Czech news television channels - ČT24 and CNN Prima NEWS. The theoretical part describes the historical development of the genre, its current form according to theories and the "ideal" work methods of reporters. The practical part does not follow these problematics by the traditional way of content analysis, however - it instead tries to approach it "from the inside", through the optics of active journalists. Using grounded theory, it examines a sample comprising of six journalists, three from each media outlet. The target is to find out whether their view of the "reportage" genre corresponds with theory and whether or not they know about eventual connections. Using questions like "what makes a good 'reportage' in your opinion" or "what does your usual workday look like", it does not only confront theory with reality. It also compares the two media outlets in between one another. It mostly focuses on the experiences of chosen reporters during the parliamentary election of 2021.

Fifteen documentary films (Život a smrt v Tanvaldu, Rozezlení, Pančovaná republika, Spřízněni přímou volbou, Svobodu pro Smetanu, Dělníci bulváru, Gadžo, Zločin pana Chytila, Já, horník!, Obnažený národ, Pět zrození, Matrix AB, Ubytovny, Blízký daleký východ a Má vlast Afghánistán) are analyzed in terms of qualitative, quantitative, form and genre. In particular, exploring the genres of individual films is crucial for the work. The starting point for exploration is the genre fluctuations of the Czech Journal between the television journalistic reportage and the documentary film. The three chapters of the bachelor's thesis evaluate this topic first from a terminological point of view, then from a formal and ultimately analytical one. The methods used for the chosen examination are represented by quantitative content analysis of the films (list of identifying features, etc.), but especially by qualitative analysis. For the purpose of qualitative research in this work, fourteen interviews with the authors of the Czech Journal were created. The film analysis also represents a qualitative element of this thesis. This bachelor thesis research...

Nikos Kazantzakis, Karel Čapek and their travel writings on England (England & Letters from England)
Stružková, Petra ; Šípová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Vořechovská, Dita (referee)
Kazantzakis' Ταξιδεύοντας. Αγγλία (England: A Travel Journal) belongs to the most significant pieces of travel writing both in Greece and abroad. Referring to Czech literature it is the travel journal of Karel Capek Anglické listy (Letters from England) that suggests itself for comparison as a literary piece of a similar relevance. The present thesis aims to compare particularly the way both authors - journalists - perceive the country and how they convey their experience, what they have in common and what the main differences are. This was accomplished by exploring the main topics referred to. Mixing genres is typical for both examined books. Capek writes in a form of playful feuilleton, Kazantzakis uses a serious reflection essay blending fact with fiction. Kazantzakis focuses on history of the nation and politics, Capek avoids these topics.
