Dog in a public space. Negotiating "more than human" public space

The thesis deals with the presence of a dog in the city, specifically in the public space and the research itself is aimed at negotiating "more than human" public space. The presence of animals in the human world causes conflicts about the "right" place of this animal, whether is place conceptual or physical. The work takes the form of a case study, where I chose for research borough of Prague 2 and on particular cases of negotiation, I watched how each party tries to affect a form of public space. Through qualitative analysis I uncover the key points of negotiation by which I learn how the different parties understand the presence of a dog in a public space, on what basis is constantly negotiates form of residence and movement of the dog in this specific area. I have used several techniques of qualitative research, especially analysis of available documents, semi-structured interviews and participant observation. Data was analyzed using open coding. In the end the thesis answers to research questions, formulate recommendations and open debate.
The Crisis of the Public Space and the Attemps to Revitalize It

The thesis called Crisis of public space and the attempts for its revitalisation is trying to analyse public space from the perspective of urban anthropology and sociology and it introduces the role of semiotics in this issue. It presents the crisis of public space and tries to uncover the causes and possible solutions. It opposes the modernistic concepts of the city which looked away from the human aspect and focuses on everyday life of people in urban space. The thesis adverts to the necessity of blending various fields which deal with the issue of public space and perceiving the city as a whole. It takes notice of the mutual relationship of space and people, of creating individual's identity and character of the society based on the environment which surrounds it and at the same time the possibility for everyone to participate in changing their surroundings, mind patterns and perception. At first, this thesis addresses the issue of the definition of public space, presents the fundamental theoretical publications dealing with its origin and crisis. Then it in detail describes the characteristics of the city, analyses the demand for good-quality space and takes notice of the tendencies that threaten public space. The Bachelor thesis will deal with street furniture in Prague. Attention will be focused on contemporary production of street furniture. What is its role in context of shaping public space and how it is now perceived by the public. Its individual elements will be discussed. I attempt to map the current situation in Prague by providing a detailed analysis including various points of view.
Public space - the place, where we live?

This thesis focuses on the concept of public space as a construct which is formed at time and is a subject to the contemporary social conditions. The first part maps the historical evolution of this construct. The changes of content of terms that have been used at different times in the sense which today is understood as a public space are described. This part presents contemporary theoretical basis, their reflections in the society and also their reflection in the lived reality. It describes the key influences that shaped today's "modus vivendi" of public space. Apart from the ancient agora the work focuses on the Czech environment from the 19th century to the present. The second part, the research work describes how the current discourse of public space, represented by the Via Foundation (Nadace Via) and its program The place, where we live (Místo, kde žijeme), transcribed into the social structure of the three Czech villages. In the context of three case studies we focus on how the public space of these villages have changed and which elements from the past survived in this structure.
Visual art in public space and focus on its presentation on selected periodicals in years 2005-2015 in the Czech Republic

The goal of this thesis is to introduce visual fine art in public space in Czech Republic. Introduction of this thesis is devoted to concept of art, concept of visual art and concept of public space. This thesis is a selection of the most important kinds of art and their approach. This thesis is depicting the development of art in the Czech public space, from the first half of the 20th century until today. Despite the fact that this art has gone a long way for over a century and during this time it has began to exploit the potential of new technologies, we can also track the tendency to repeat and return what we know from the past. I demonstrate the selection of the most interesting art instalations and events which could be ment as representants of these arts. The practical part of this thesis track the articles about visual fine art in public space in Czech Republic during the ten years in four weekly magazines - Reflex, Respekt, Instinkt and Týden.
The image of a journalist in public and politics - Erik Tabery

The goal of this work is to analyse the depiction of Czech journalists in political and social area in changing historical, political and working conditions and assessing the current image of the editor in chief of Respekt, Erik Tabery. The theoretical part of the work analyzes the image and its relationship to stereotypisation and myth. The journalist occupation is introduced in its function in different societies and ownership structures. The image of journalist is explored in two different historical and political eras, in the totalitarian regimes and free society. Working with the stereotype (myth) about journalists is shown in the Karel Čapek's feuilletons. The practical part of the work focuses on creating the image of Erik Tabery and in the time-span of 10 months based on monitoring the outputs of media, which mention his person or in which he presents himself. In the framework of self-representation the thesis analyzes Tabery's outputs in articles, interviews, one public lecture, one television program and social networks Facebook and Twitter. Printed and electronic daily journals including blogs and also blogs with evaluating comments on social networks are used in describing popularity of the journalist. Final part of the work assesses Tabery's relationship to myth.
Monopoly of truth. The Postwar History revision in Czech Republic and Israel.

The paper deals with comparison of trajectories of the post-war history revision in Czechoslovakia and Israel where the comparison with the Czech case should serve as a referential framework for introducing the disputes in Israeli historiography into the Czech environment. After the theoretical introduction, the second part analyses the development in Israeli historiography using a generation model and mainly the "new historiography" and the discussion that this group provoked. The following comparative part compares the debate on the post-war "resettlement" of Germans with the debate on the causes of the birth of the Palestinian refugee problem.
