Quantitative Analysis of the Parliamentary Activities of Members of the Parliament of the Czech Republic
Hájek, Lukáš ; Švec, Kamil (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
Bachelor thesis A Quantitative Analysis of the Parliamentary Activities of Members of the Parliament of the Czech Republic is divided into two parts - the theoretical and the practical. The first part describes the theoretical background of the thesis. The relevant legislation dealing with MPs mandate and content of its activity is delineated in the beginning of the study. Furthermore the text covers the conclusions made by several native Czech political scientists and constitutional lawyers on the topic. The significant part of the thesis is composed of a description of related research using a quantitative method. It provides an inspiration for methodology and further content of the study. The second part of the thesis represents the practical side of the research. A creation of a data set is described by the variable selection with their operationalization and the data collection. The methodical content of the research and development of the data set operational environment are depicted. After that the garnered data are evaluated, at first in terms of individual variables and then by relationships between variables. The evaluation outputs are represented using illustrative tables and charts. To conclude a method to measure the MPs activity rate is created by the formula of the parliamentary...
Migration and its social construction in approaches of political parties in the Chamber of Deputies in the Czech Republic
Burešová, Zdeňka ; Novotný, Vilém (advisor) ; Jelínková, Marie (referee)
Migration is a phenomenon which has strong impact on the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic is currently under transformation from transit country to immigration country. At the present time the situation is even more complicated because of the migrant crises which impact all of us. I suppose that the Members of Parliament will create social constructions or narratives about migrants during the sitting of parliament. I aim to identify social constructions of migrants that are created by the Czech political parties represented in the Chamber of Deputies since the 2013 election. I will divide social construction into two main groups. Ones belong to migrants and the other ones to refugees. I would like to find out if there are more positive or negative social constructions and how are benefits and punishments distributed to these groups. I would like to discover key narratives of particular political negotiation as well. Theoretical background of this thesis is the social construction of target population theory of Anne Schneider and Helen Ingram. In the manner of Lina Newton's article "It is not a question of being anti-immigrant: Categories of deservedness in immigration policy making", I will use a combination of discursive and narrative analysis as the main method. I will analyse statements and...

The Process of approval of laws in the Czech Republic
Jabůrek, Lukáš ; Švec, Kamil (advisor) ; Brunclík, Miloš (referee)
This research looks at the process of law approval in the Czech Republic in practice. This covers law proposal, appproval and implementation. The public views the process of approval and discussion in the Chamber of Deputies as protracted and inefficient resulting in postponing of some important laws. This research therefore aims to find which means the deputies especially the Members of Parliament, can use to influence the process of law approval and to what extent they actually use them. In relation to the main research question the theoretical part will focus on detailed analysis of the Constitution of the Czech Republic. In particular the part which explains the law approval process and competence of deputies The literature will also include the Rules of Procedure of the Chamber of Deputies. The analytical part will be dedicated to 3 specific examples of law approval (from the election period 2013-2017), its progress, amendatory proposals and voting in the Chamber of Deputies. It will possibly also mention reactions of the Senate and the President of the Czech Republic. In all 3 instances the research will try to answer the research question and summarise how the deputies use their competence in practice and how they influence the law approval process. Finally, practical suggestions which...

Euroscepticism in the European Parliament: Has the behaviour of the eurosceptic MEPs changed?
Hendrych, Lukáš ; Knutelská, Viera (advisor) ; Stauber, Jakub (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis "Euroscepticism in the European Parliament: Has the Behaviour of the Eurosceptic MEPs Changed?" is to analyse political behaviour of eurosceptic MEPs in the European Parliament. The influence and a number of politicians who disagree with European integration and who strongly criticizes it has been getting higher in the last years. It also has an effect on the result of elections to the only directly-voted institution of the European Union. Twice as many of these politicians gained seats in the European Parliament in the elections in 2014 than in 2009. Two political factions that associate MEPs whose position is to be against European integration have also been formed. However, there was only one faction like this in the last legislative term. According to these recent circumstances this bachelor thesis analyses the definition of the term "euroscepticism" and also the behaviour of eurosceptic MEPs. Stronger political representation of this political stance means more possibilities and space for changing these stances to political actions in the European Union. The question remains whether they are going to use their stronger position for their political goals or they will more likely be passive and politically inactive. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
