Morality of Politicians Viewed by Public Opinion - February/March 2023

In the last survey CVVM enquired how strictly according to public should be judged morality of politicians and what criteria should be considered in their deliberations. CVVM also focused on attitudes of Czech citizens to disputes, problems and affairs which appear in our political and public life. In this case, respondents were presented with a list of statements with which they expressed their agreement or disagreement.

Popularity of Top Politicians - July 2021

In July 2021 the Public Opinion Researcch Centre investigated whether respondents trust to selected top politicians. They were given a list with 29 names of top politicians. In a survey there were included names of membres of government, president, chairmen of Senate and Chamber of Deputies, chairmen of parliamentary clubs of political parties in the Chamber of Deputies, chairman of Constitutional Court, governor of the Czech National Bank, and ombudsman.

In June 2021 the Public Opinion Research Centre of the Institute of Sociology the Czech Academy of Sciences investigated whether respondents trust to selected politicians. They were given a list with 20 names of top politicians who represent political parties present in the Chamber of Deputies.

Talk show Uvolněte se, prosím and its political guests (qualitative and quantitative analysis of politicians' attendance in the show)

Diploma thesis "Talk show Uvolněte se, prosím and its political guests (qualitative and quantitative analysis of politicians' attendance in the show)" deals with the topic of convergence of entertainment and politics, hence politics and the media as such. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the wider context of the issue - presentation of the politicians on television, interconnection of politics and humor, and the role of talk shows in political communication. The theoretical part presents the issue of political celebrities as one of the factors that affect communication between the politicians and the citizens. The practical part deals with the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the political guests' performance in the czech version of American talk shows Uvolněte se, prosím.

Presence of Colonial Past in Contemporary Portugal

This diploma thesis, titled "Presence of Colonial Past in Contemporary Portugal", deals with how the Portuguese society has coped with their loss of the last colonies after the democratic revolution in the year 1974. Portugal belonged, along with Spain, to the first colonial powers in Europe and for long time - till the 20th century - the independence of colonies was for many Portuguese people unimaginable. Therefore a lot of them were surprised with the speedy decolonization of these territories after 1974. Investigation of reactions of Portuguese society to this change is based on the analysys of responses of its political and academic communities after the year 1976. Attitudes held by the wider society was demonstrated by the massive support of Portuguese to the former colony of East Timor during Semptember 1999. The approach of politicans is analysed in this work through their speeches during the key' historical moments, which influenced relations between Portugal and its former colonies during the years 1976-1996, as well as through government' programmes and comments in mass media. Analysis of academical discussion is concentrated mainly on the 1990s and present, when the colonial past has became a topic of great interest to many portuguese perits. In March survey the Public Opinion Research Center examined how the inhabitants of the Czech Republic assess the political culture of public officials and politicians: members of the governments, deputies, senators, representatives of regional and local self-governments and politicians from current parliamentary political parties.
