The Impact of Laudato's Encyclical letter on the Life and Pastoral Care of the Chemin Neuf Community

The diploma thesis examines the influence of the Laudato si' encyclical on the life and pastoral care of the Chemin Neuf Community. The thesis consists of three chapters. In the initial part of the content, the encyclical is studied as for its structure, fundamental topics and principles (three of them are further analysed in Chapter 3). In the second chapter, the Chemin Neuf Community is introduced. This part of the thesis deals not only with the historical context of the Community formation, but also with its spirituality, vocation and emphasis on ministration. The author also offers a diachronic view on the Community's response to different social and environmental topics communicated in Laudato si' both before and after the encyclical was published. Chapter 3 gives an analysis of certain selected principles contained in the encyclical with special impact on the life and pastoral care of the Chemin Neuf Community. Specifically, it describes the influence of these principles on the Community's work for Christian unity, parish ministration and formation of novices.

Permaculture agriculture in geographical context

Permaculture is one of the types of alternative agriculture. It was created in reaction to problems of conventional (intensive) agriculture, which is not sustainable. Projects are designed by ideal of the nature. It uses the new technology in combination with experiences of our ancestors. It includes the whole range of disciplines, which are still evolving. Permaculture offers more than food self-support. It has became a lifestyle, which is based on the principles of the ethics of permaculture. It emphasizes the importance of the landscape and environment protection. It supports local market and local economics. Permaculture gardens are most often located in the countryside. Permaculture principles are used for the formation of the comunity gardens in the last years. The aim of this work is to find out the location of permaculture in the Czechia, the reason of establishments of permaculture gardens and whether the permaculture is able to solve the problems of the conventional agriculture. The mixed methods research was realized in the form of the questionnaires with the 19 permaculture gardens and in the form of the semi-structured interview with the one community garden. Permakulturní praktiky a možnosti jejich využití

In the first part of the Bachelor thesis, the concept of permaculture is defined, as well as its history and then, there is a description of permaculture principles and practices which can be used in both rural and city environment. In the second part, the author compares the differences in agrotechnical approach and revenues in permaculture and intensive agriculture. The point was to capture and objectively review the advantages and disa-dvantages of these types of agriculture and determine the limit factor. Within the field investigation, a visit to a natural garden, which belongs to a family house, took place. The result is a plan creation, foto documentation, a description of cultivated crops and practices used in this garden.

This thesis is focused on edible gardens in an urban environment. The theoretical part contains the literature review where the main concepts of urban and ecological farming and edible gardens are characterized. The practical part of this thesis contains a case study describing a typical edible garden in the Czech Republic. As a part of the research a questionnaire survey was realized to determine the level of general knowledge and interest regarding edible gardens amongst the people in Brno. The questionnaire survey shows, that awareness of edible gardens is low and people in Brno would welcome edible garden. From the result of survey is apparently, that interest regarding edible gardens in Brno is relatively high and then was suggested some recommendation in the framework of realization. SWOT analysis was created with prevailing strengths of edible garden, including recommended strategies.

The bachelor thesis focuses on the theme of edible gardens in the city. In the theoretical part, a literature review was elaborated on the possibilities of growing crops (food) in the city. In the practical part the field survey method, comparative method and SWOT analysis were used. The field survey was conducted in two different locations and types of urban gardens. In the gardening colony, the amount of food / food produced during one season was monitored. The second survey took place in the community garden and the functions and possibilities that the community garden offers to the residents were assessed. The comparative method captured differences in benefits for residents among the gardens under review. The result is an overview of the specific production of fruit and vegetables in the monitored areas, their comparison and evaluation of the benefit. The results of the SWOT analysis show that the strong points prevail in the community garden, mainly because the interest in the environment and organic food is constantly increasing. The analysis of the limits in relation to the current way of life pointed to the fact that the most important limiting factors are easily available food in supermarkets and the financial / time demands of garden operation.

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of natural gardens in both practical and theoretical parts. The practical part is focused on the protection of the environment and natural gardens. In the practical part is processed the ideological solution of the given area, with an emphasis on the support of biodiversity in accordance with the requirements of the contracting authorities. In the thesis there is elaborated an extensive questionnaire survey on the theme of natural garden and the results are related to the current state of garden architecture.

This thesis aim to theoretically and empirically cover the theme of self-sufficient way of living in full spectrum from local economy supporting associations to clear pictures of live of the people who are trying to live self-sufficient. The work deals with many forms of self-sufficiency: energetic self-support, home schooling and sharing. In theoretical part of the work author specifies research questions whose are used for expanding and verifying conclusions or data from another researches. In the empirical part author analyse data collected during an ethnographic research (participant observation and semi-structured interviews in three households.

In bachelor thesis there is performed basic characteristic and history of edible forest garden, following by the summary of natur principles and by the list of benefits whis gives us the garden. A separate chapter is devoted to the elements of ecogarden, among the most prominent improvement of soil properties. Further there are some options how to make the most of space in the garden. In the thesis there is of course list of plant species, which are ideal for arid climate. Plant species are untraditional or old variets.

The main focus is on describing the economical and material background of households, their strategies and practices for achieving food self-sufficiency, and motivation and difficulties related to this matter. Data were collected by observing and interviewing 8 permaculture households.
