Comparison of approaches to the conservation of modern architecture in the context of contemporary ideological influences
Pilařová, Zdislava ; Indrová, Martina (advisor) ; Jordánová, Květa (referee)
The thesis focuses on the comparison of two approaches to the protection of modern architectural cultural heritage. The first approach is the protection of the First Republic, especially functionalist buildings, which began with the first culture heritage law No. 22/1958 Coll. The second approach is devoted to the contemporary challengers of protecting buildings from the socialist era in the context of reflecting the past that the buildings may represent. Both approaches are related to the issue of the subjectivity and ideological conditionality of heritage protection. The research is set in the context of the development of architecture since the 1920s, the development of heritage protection, and the context of reflecting the past. The fate of selected monuments that have become central points to the change of narrative is also discussed. The thesis employs a method of qualitative analysis of information obtained from the contemporary literature and the National Heritage Institute's web platform Památkový katalog, followed by a comparison of approaches to the conservation of buildings in the style of functionalism and buildings from the socialist era. The thesis tries to connect several themes - the development of functionalist architecture and architecture from the socialist era, the development...

Monument care: Duties and their violation in our law
Janeček, Lukáš ; Handrlica, Jakub (advisor) ; Rajchl, Jiří (referee)
Monument care: Duties and their violation in our law Abstract The Czech Republic is a area where almost any small village is a home to a cultural monument. We indeed possess one of the richest cultural heritages in the world. However, it is important and necessary to protect them so that knowledge and experience can be drawn from them by future generations as well. Such protection is associated with a series of duties that various entities must fulfill. This master's thesis specifically deals with these duties. Its goal is to describe and evaluate the state of legal regulation of monument care in relation to these duties and their violations. The focus is primarily on owners of cultural monuments and other obligated entities who are authorized to conduct archaeological research or restore cultural monuments. Therefore, due to the current relevance of the entire topic, this work has been created. Moreover, it could, at least partly, serve as a form of enlightenment, even for the general public. To a large extent, it engages with the Act on State Monument Care, commentary literature, and case law. Simultaneously, problematic sections are illustrated through practical examples derived precisely from judicial decisions. Also, critical attention is given to problematic areas that are nearly ubiquitous in the...
The housing estates’ regeneration in accordance with the interests of the heritage care
Řepková, Hana
This methodical guide is based on a synthesis of three approaches to the revitalization of panel housing – urbanist, heritage and architectural. The guide aims to contribute to increasing the lifespan of panel housing while maintaining the estates‘ key values for their residents. It provides suggestions on how best to cultivate the housing estates‘ environment and to positively influence their status within the commonly held image of inhabited landscapes as an effective part of sustainable development of the structure of settlements in the Czech Republic. The guide strives to effectuate change in societal opinion by showcasing panel housing’s domestic history, embodied values and potential for development within the international context. Aside from foreign experiences, it focuses on an original and proven domestic method of facade appearance regulation. Adherence to basic regulations for the foundation and continuous upkeep of traditional urban structures helps panel housing to become a regular part of said structures. The guide encourages searching, appreciation and protection of outstanding and original solutions. The recognition of the specifics of Czech housing estates, which the guide identifies, is to serve as a starting point for their universal acceptance and eventual heritage care.

Reconstruction of the fishpond system of Dymokury region
Kupka, Jiří
The article presents the results of the research on the historical cultural landscape in the administrative district of the Poděbrady Region carried out within the NAKI II project Practical Approaches to the Territorial Protection of Historical Cultural Landscapes. The research included the definition of units and units of historical cultural landscape and then a detailed analysis of the partially relict landscape of the former fishpond system of Dymokury Region. A partial output of the project was a map reconstruction of the fishponds and dykes to the state of 1713, from which the description of the ponds on the estate survived, presented in the form of an interactive map. The text presents the sources used, among which the archival maps stand out, especially the first military mapping, confronted with cadastral maps, aerial photographs and a digital relief model. On the basis of the analysis, 91 fishpond sites were identified in the study area, which were entered into the map and described and documented in detail. Thirty of them have been preserved to date, the rest of the water bodies have disappeared. Several larger ponds have survived on the Štítarský Brook, on the Smíchovský Brook and on the Záhornický Brook. Some of the fishponds have remained wet meadows, others have disappeared completely, but they are visible in the terrain, including the dykes that are still prominent today. The results of the analyses show that even a seemingly ordinary and uninteresting agricultural field landscape has a number of historical landscape structures, moreover with historically proven potential for water retention in the landscape.
The monastery - a vision of the future
Leník, Petr ; Plášil, Jiří (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
The aim of the project is to establish a local craft brewery in the former Capuchin convent, which‘ll contribute to the further development of the town of Fulnek. A small pub will complement the new brewery and the basement under the north and east wings of the convent will be used as a wine cellar with rentable cubicles for storing archive wines and common room for vine tasting. The new complex will also provide public tours of the brewery's beer making operation. A lecture room will add the possibility of educational lectures related to brewing. All of this, together with the multi-purpose hall in the recently renovated capuchin church, finishes the real cultural centre of Fulnek. The newly formed purpose of the convent is designed to be a self-sufficient entity that will help restore the name of the now mostly forgotten, but historically significant town.
Heritage evaluation of artistic stucco: The methodology deals with professional approaches to the conservation and restoration of artistic stucco, its value framework and theoretical problems of its restoration and presentation within the architectural context
Fiřt, Jan ; Kuneš, Petr ; Skalický, Petr
The methodology deals with professional approaches to the conservation and restoration of artistic stucco, its value framework and theoretical problems of its restoration and presentation within the architectural context. The introduction of the methodology presents the general characteristics of the stucco works care against the background of institutionalised monument care and describes the roles of involved persons in the process of preparing the concept of restoration intervention. In the following sections, the historical development of stucco in the European and Czech context is briefly outlined and a basic overview of the most common stucco techniques and materials is given. The next part of the methodology focuses on the survey procedures and methods used to characterise the work itself, its composition, techniques and materials, as well as to identify its damage, deterioration and secondary interventions, aimed at an overall assessment of the condition of the work. The core chapters of the methodology are devoted to the preparation of the restoration intervention, which is based on the monumental assessment of the specific work and the objectives of the intervention formulated in the given context. The preservation of the heritage values of the work is emphasised, but the legitimate perspectives of other stakeholders in the restoration process are also reflected. The final chapter of the methodology presents selected partial risks associated with older restoration inputs that are problematic from the point of view of today's monument care. The examples given, illustrated with photographs of real stucco works, deliberately depart from the context of complex and period-specific interventions and aim to present the risks associated with some of the existing approaches to restoring stucco monuments.
