Optical Character Recognition at Camera Captured Images
Kindermann, Hubert ; Blažek, Jan (advisor) ; Kolomazník, Jan (referee)
We present solution of steps necessary for binarization and text lines detection contained in printed documents digitized by the camera. We introduce a normalization of non-uniform illumination method for text photographs. We propose input bitmap binarization algorithm based on two-dimensional probability pixel model which also considers its surrounding. We continue with description of robust text lines orientation detector based on optimization of risk function using first order derivatives of image function. In the end we present text lines detection and segmentation algorithm. Final shape of segmented lines is optimized with usage of graph algorithm. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
For a happy and quiet life? International Women's Day, first Day of a Schoolyear, and Peace Race in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s
Koláčková, Terezie ; Pullmann, Michal (advisor) ; Rákosník, Jakub (referee)
The topic of this thesis is analysis of the International Women's Day, Peace Race and first day of a school year as normalization rituals. The aim of these rituals was to mediate and consolidate the official state ideology and transform the whole society. Each of these events is analysed in three steps - in the first step is described the ideological content, in the second step is probed the way of projecting this ideology into the rituals and in the third step are analysed the actors themselves. If they adopted the ideological practise and what were their motivation to participate in these rituals.
The Import and Distribution of Gramophone Records under the Normalization in Socialist Czechoslovakia
Andrs, Jiří ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Michela, Miroslav (referee)
This work engages in the import and distribution of the audio storages, concretely the gramophone records to Czechoslovakia. A gramophone record - differently to other audio storages like reel-to-reel tape records or later the cassettes - was meanwhile also an artefact that personified an attractive exoticness of the western world and because of its format and graphical elaboration it represented a valuable object of popular culture. The work is based on the assumption that the development of Czechoslovak musical subcultures depended largely on the distribution of gramophone records. That is why author focuses his attention on the unofficial import of the LP records by private persons. The very limited state-controlled import of this product will be also partly taken in account. An important question within this work is the import of the west-made music from other socialist states. In many of those countries licenses of those LPs were released much more often than in CSSR. Compared to the original western LPs it was easier for Czechoslovakian citizens to reach them - because of better possibilities to travel to socialist countries and yet because of a relatively low prices of eastern presses. Student also tries to revise the common notion (typical for both academic and non-academic sphere)...
Normalization and the Czech rock scene
Jeřábková, Kamila ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
The introduction of the bachelor thesis Normalization and Czech rock scene focuses on the culture of the 1960s and the beginnings of rock music in the Czech lands. The main objective is to capture the rock music scene of the late '60s and '70s. The emphasis is on the normalization era. Part of the thesis delves into the Prague Cultural Center and its management of the music scene at the time, with a look at requalification exams for musicians. The concluding part of the thesis focuses on the Czech uderground and its core ideas. The featured key proponents of these ideas is the band The Plastic People of the Universe. The suppression of human rights and ideological interventions of the normalization era, to the contrary, bolstered the activities of the independent-rock music scene. The arrival of new wave influenced the development of rock music for years to come. The purpose of this thesis is a probe into the influence of normalization on the cultural scene and the reinforcement of ideas of freedom.

Bibliografický záznam ANDREAS, Petr. Politika interpretace. Rétorické, diskursivní a textové hry v normalizační literární kritice. Univerzita Karlova, Filozofická fakulta, Ústav české literatury a komparatistiky, 2014. Vedoucí disertační práce: prof. Petr A. Bílek, CSc. Anotace Tématem této disertace je politika interpretace v normalizační literární kritice a publicistice (1968-1989). Práce kategorizuje a analyzuje diskursivní, rétorické a textové strategie, které používali literární kritici a publicisté (a jednotlivé profesní a názorové skupiny) publikující v oficiálním publikačním prostoru. Metodologicky vychází z konceptu politiky interpretace podle P. C. Hogana, rozvinutého o teorii jednání a teorii řečových aktů. V první, teoreticko-metodologické části (kapitoly II-IV) je představen a rozvíjen pojem politiky interpretace a analyzovány metodologické problémy interpretace literárněkritických a publicistických textů z normalizační éry. V druhé, analytické a interpretační části (kapitoly V-VII) jsou rozlišeny tři roviny politiky interpretace podle umístění ve struktuře kritického aktu a identifikovány kategorie rétorických, diskursivních a textových strategií. V třetí, závěrečné části (kapitola VIII) je zobecněno a syntetizováno poznání o podobě a fungování kritického aktu v normalizační éře. Annotation...
Fixtures, Fittings and Visual Art Objects in the Building of the Former Czechoslovak Federal Assembly
Konopčíková, Petra ; Biegel, Richard (advisor) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the building of the former Federal Assembly, designed by architect Karel Prager (1923-2001). The thesis depicts the circumstances relating to the new Parliament building and the resulting architectural design. The target is to map out the fixtures, fittings and visual art objects in the building. It was necessary to look up in- dividual artists whose works of art had been initially designated to decorate the building. The original artistic concept was created in the sixties during the time of political relax- ation that culminated by the Prague Spring. However, the concept had to be substantially altered in connection with the start of subsequent "political normalization" when most formerly participating creative artists became officially unacceptable. Important sources of information concerning visual art objects for the building were periodicals from the time of construction, monographies of individual artists, catalogues from their exhibitions and dialogues with those who were directly involved. The thesis does not merely enumerate individual works of art in the building but it considers them both with regard to their creators' other visual art objects and the cultural and political situation.
Archive of photography of the czech television Ostrava (photography as a source of information)
Bednář, Marek ; Hrdina, Jiří (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This thesis focuses on the topic of photography in the work of Television studio Ostrava, a part of Czechoslovak television, during a period of the communist regime, called normalisation, and the reflection of this period after the year 1989. It may be presumed that communist propaganda and other efforts of normalisation will be apparent in the documentaries and other products concentrating on photography. The region of Ostrava also has its own cultural specificity due to its mainly industrial nature; the region is characterised by coal mining and metallurgy. Thus it may be presumed that communism will be planted in the minds of the people more firmly. The thesis also contains a theoretical framework, describing socialist realism in photography and normalisation in photography as well as in the television studio in question. In order to verify these hypotheses and to discover other important facts of the topic in question, a content analysis of data available in the archive of Television studio Ostrava was carried out. The archive suffered grave losses during major flooding of Moravia and Silesia in 1997, some films and actual photographs were however still available for analysis. The findings relevant to each document are stated in their respective parts and are summarised as a whole in the...
The image of the border Cheb region in the local press since the normalization period until the fall of comunism
Šollar, Libor ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
Main goal of this thesis is research of everyday life specifics in Cheb region as a region on the west border of the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and eventual interception of these specifics in regional or national press in last twenty years before the Velvet Revolution. The base for the research became the weekly magazine Hraničář as the only regional newspaper published throughout the whole studied period and the research was conducted using searches of the sample chosen in advance (years 1970, 1971, 1980, 1981, 1989, 1990). Any predicative facts about the local newspapers, the composition of the editorial staff and possible editors impact (respectively presumed inability to influence) on the newspaper content in a system of directive management and reflections of the Chebsko region as a border region in the immediate vicinity of the Iron Curtain were of interest of the research. The core of the work is to draw a picture of everyday life of "ordinary" citizens of the region with regard to the above facts and focusing on different aspects of life in society such as the local economy, agriculture or cultural, sport and social life in the city. The thesis also deals with the editions and contents of the newspaper during the periods of anniversaries of essential historical events (e.g....
