The effect of migration on electoral geography of populist-nationalist parties: the case of Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura party
Suchánek, Jonáš
Analytical research of a migrant's presence in a certain location on election outcomes of populist-nationalist parties is a relatively new phenomena in the field of electoral geography. Media and political interest in migration and refugees has risen rapidly in the last few years and offers a broad opportunity for relevant scientific studies. This thesis stems from existing literature, that have studied such relation and focuses on the case of The Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura Party (SPD) and on the possible influence of the share of migrants on SPD's electoral support at two different scale levels (municipalities with authorized municipal offices and individual municipalities) during the 2017 parliamentary elections. Analysing the most important groups of migrants and additionally a formed group of migrants coming from countries with either dominant or significant Muslim native population can be considered as innovative. The main goal is to discover whether the election outcomes of SPD, which stands strongly opposed to migration, differ based on the share of migrants in a certain area, or if migration does not play any role at all. Furthermore, the electoral geography of SPD is compared to the of Tomio Okamura's former party - Dawn of Direct Democracy, whose rhetoric did not focus...
Problematika uprchlictví pohledem studentek a studentů Pedagogické fakulty Jihočeské univerzity
MŇUKOVÁ, Viktorie
The aim of the bachelor's thesis will be to capture the view of students of the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia on the phenomenon of refugees. The author will try to compare the opinions captured in her survey with that of the Czech public, as we become familiar with it through relevant public opinion surveys captured by sociologists. In her work, the author will justify the methods she chooses for her survey and specify what her selection of respondents will be. At the beginning of the thesis, author will introduce us in general to the issue of migration, especially with an emphasis on migration to the Countries of the European Union. The author will introduce us to the terms she will use, such as shelter, economic migration and will bring the numbers of people migrating to Europe and from which source countries, areas they come from. In particular, it will accentuate the geographical view of migration and the percepci of the countries where the migrants come from relative to the students whose views they will subsequently find out. The source countries where the migrants come from will then be linked by the author to the perceptic and reality of security threats to the EU.

Spatial behaviour of immigrants: analysis of spatial relatedness between migration groups
Hasman, Jiří ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Baláž, Vladimír (referee) ; Netrdová, Pavlína (referee)
The entry of immigrants into their incoming country as well as their subsequent spread over the country's territory occurs through processes that have a strong spatial bias. The specific migration groups (here defined as the set of immigrants with the same country of origin) tend to reveal different levels and patterns of their spatial concentrations. The understanding of these similarities and dissimilarities in spatial behaviour is important task from both academic and policy perspective. This thesis has a quantitative character and it is based on the study of "spatial relatedness" of migration groups, which is defined as a rate, how much do given migration groups concentrate into the same regions. The thesis is based on a simple assumption that the spatial relatedness mirrors mutual proximity or similarity between these groups in other respects (e.g. cultural or economical). Plenty of datasets describing spatial distribution of migrants within 32 territorial systems on various scales (from global to local) are analysed. These systems will be analysed separately at first and then a synthesis of these partial results will be done with the aim to discover prevailing pattern of the spatial relatedness of migration groups. The assessments consists of several steps, which include particularly calculation of...

Čermáková, Dita
Presented dissertation is compilation of seven articles complemented by introductory summary. First part of the dissertation contains the theoretical and methodological summary of the research topic, which include our theoretical discussion resulting from our concrete research. They were cultural, structural and individual approaches. The aim of this summary is linking these approaches with our research and answering the question, whether it is possible to use these approaches and theories and models resulted from these three approaches in the environment of the Czech Republic. If yes than the question is with what problems and results. In our research published in articles we have used all three theoretical and methodological approaches. In the cultural approach we were inspired by concepts...
Remittances and development: Analysis of remittances going from Czechia to Vietnam
Le, My Linh ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
In the field of migration and development the economic impact of remittances is emphasized more often. The thesis examines remittances regarding social aspects as an important part of migration and development. The main aim is to understand the process of transfer of social remittances between Vietnamese living in the Czech Republic and their family members living in Vietnam. The important theoretical background of this thesis is the concept of social remittances. The process of transferring social remittances is scrutinized through semi- structured in-depth interviews with Vietnamese migrants and their family members in Vietnam. The paper describes the social remittances that are generated by transnational Vietnamese migrants in the Czech Republic and under what conditions the remittances were or were not accepted by their family members in Vietnam. The work uses a qualitative approach for data analysis that allows an insight into the lives of examined individuals. The results reflect the perspective of migrants and their family members. It is apparent that the context of migrants and their personal characteristics and skills - language abilities, length of stay in the destination country, extent of financial stability and level of education - plays an important role in the process of...
Russian speaking students (from Russia and Kazakhstan) in the Czech Republic. Educational migration and the role of the family in it
Kopecká, Liudmila ; Pinc, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee) ; Sidiropulu Janků, Kateřina (referee)
The PhD thesis "Russian Speaking Students (from Russia and Kazakhstan) in the Czech Republic: Educational Migration and the Role of the Family in it", examines the life of Russian speaking students, who come to the Czech Republic to obtain a university degree. It tries to answer several research questions. How is the decision taken to come to the Czech Republic? What kind of role does family play in the decision-making process and in further intentions/plans in the Czech Republic? What are the migration strategies of Russian speaking students in the Czech Republic? How do these strategies change over time? What connections exist between the life cycle of the student and the migration process? This is an anthropological, multisite field research, with participant observation being the core research method. As of 2015, 55 student research participants participated in the research (41 from Russia and 14 from Kazakhstan), with whom formal and informal interviews were made. Transnationalism and migration system theory have been used as theoretical concepts so as to better understand the student migration process.
Utilization of Educational Attainment of Foreign Migrant Workers in the Czech Labour Market
Valenta, Ondřej
This doctoral thesis addresses one of the most significant topics in contemporary research in international migration; that is the education-occupation mismatch of highly qualified foreign workers in the labour market of a host country. The thesis focuses on the situation in the Czech labour market in the time-period between 2009 and 2016. By the possibility to utilize a unique set of non-public, anonymized individual data on foreign employment this thesis provides a first thorough empirical evidence on the level of mismatch of skilled migrant workers in the Czech labour market, with a dominant focus on quantitative approach to the given issue. Results of the research reveal that the mismatch between the migrant employees' attained (tertiary) and required education at their job occupations on the Czech labour market does exist and it is encountered by 20-30 % of tertiary educated foreign workers; moreover, level of mismatch has been gradually increasing over the given time-period. The differences in the level of mismatch then fundamentally differ across particular citizenship groups. The resulting level of mismatch of highly skilled foreign workers in the Czech labour market seems to be driven predominantly by broader social and economic drivers. More specifically, these are particularly a limited...
