As for eating habits, respondents, from the vast majority, do not pay any attention to this process. Household nutritional effects of the DICONSA food subsidy program
Dent, Felix ; Bauer, Michal (advisor) ; Janský, Petr (referee)
This thesis is an empirical research project assessing the household nutritional impact of the DICONSA food subsidy program in Mexico. By employing a combination of propensity score matching and OLS econometric approaches, I conduct an analysis of household survey data contained in La Encuesta Nacional de Ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares (ENIGH) from Mexico. I find strong evidence of a significant increase in household caloric intake in rural areas targeted by the program, driven primarily by increased consumption of DICONSA subsidised cereal products and corn grain in particular. I find no evidence of decreased caloric intake resulting from overriding income effects of subsidisation. However, my investigation into the specifics of participant household food expenditure data suggests that reselling of subsidised commodities may occur amongst poorer households.

Development of the family structures in the South Bohemia in the 19th century
Klečková, Diana ; Velková, Alice (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
Development of the family structures in the South Bohemia in the 19th century Abstract This work is a probe into the life of a historical family in southern Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century. During this period, the Czech lands underwent the most significant qualitative changes in the history of mankind. However, these changes associated with industrialization had a rather negative impact on South Bohemia and caused South Bohemia to become a poor agricultural area with a high rate of emigration. Using the methods of historical demography, the development of not only family structures, but also the structures of inhabitantsand households, which are very closely connected with the family, is analyzed on the example of the village Bernartice. Analyzes are performed over a period of forty years from the data of the first modern censuses, carried in years from 1869 to 1900. The population in Bernartice stagnated in the period under review and high migration from southern Bohemia did not significantly disrupt the structure of population, families, and households. However, more difficult living conditions probably resulted in an increase in the coexistence of families with relatives, a smaller number of family members, and a lower representation of servants. Keywords: historical demography, family,...
Who was your mother? Who are your uncles and aunts? The concept of family background and selected demographic phenomena in the work of Jane Austen in comparison with the Austen family and historical-demographic research for England at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries
Šimsová, Marie ; Doležalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Horský, Jan (referee)
The presented master thesis deals with the work of Jane Austen. The author's novels are analysed from the perspective of the concept of the family, both from a literary and demographic point of view. These research questions constitutes two subject of the examination. The first subject is the family, as it is the cornerstone of Jane Austen's short stories. The objective of this work is to analyse the extent to which family relationships determine the possibilities of the main characters and heroines; how the heroines benefit from family ties or, on the contrary, want to escape from them. The conclusions show that Austen applied this determination in all studied novels. This work further examines the degree of cooperation and rivalry of the individual families in the novels. At this point, a significant diversity of interfamily relationships was found. Secondly, this work maps selected demographic idiosyncrasies in Jane Austen's family, in the families from her short stories, and in historical demographic studies of England at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. This thesis focuses on the number and composition of individual families, their origin, social status, property relations and to some extent legal relationships, mainly related to the issue of inheritance and the situation of widows in...
