Zunová, Markéta ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Hocká, Eva (referee)
This thesis, Cultural life in Terezin ghetto through the eyes of witnesses, is focused on cultural activities of Terezin prisoners with emphasis on sports, theatre and music. In the initial phase of the thesis I focus on the town of Terezin, from its foundation through the transformation into the ghetto up until its liquidation in 1945. Then follows the core work - Terezin culture. Individual subchapters are gradually dedicated to sports, music, theater and children's artwork as well. The goal of the thesis is an effort to transfer all the acquired findings into the ghetto environment, which should also be the core work of the thesis. I have gathered the necessary information on this issue from the Malach visual history archive, which is a source contatining several tens of thousands eyewitness accounts given by the surviving victims. In my thesis I am trying to connect information gathered from professional literature with the information gathered from the Malach archive. The whole thesis should provide a complete view of the cultural activities in Terezin while taking experiences and memories of the survivors into account.

Identity between Memory and Narrative: A Sociological Analysis Abstract of PhD thesis Mgr. The aim of my thesis is an explanation of mutual relationship of identity, memory and narrative as well as their meanings in social action. I am taking into account the controversial features of these phenomena, which have been recently discussed, and I offer a compromise theoretical solution. Mutual relationship of identity, memory and narrative are followed in detailed case-study, analysing a selection of oral history interviews from USC Shoah Foundation's Visual History Archive, with an inspiration from narrative analysis and membership categorization analysis. The oral history interview is a social situation, in which the general interactional mechanisms related to memory, identity and narrative stand out in focused shape. Narrative expression of identities in life stories of Holocaust survivors is mainly related to the categories of national, state, political and religious identity, reflected explicitly and implicitly during the interviews. Heroldová, Karolína ; Konrád, Ota (advisor) ; Mikulová, Soňa (referee)
The thesis follows up the subject of Jews and Shoah in Czechoslovakia and Austria and their representation at the beginning of the 60s. By this time, the Eichmann-trial took place in Jerusalem. Finding out, how and how much did the trial influence the presentation of Jews and Jewish victims in cultural memories or rather policy of past of both societies in comparison is aim of the thesis. On this basis, it is possible to reveal both differences and similarities between the two societies. Even if they seem to be completely different because of being sepparated by the Iron Curtain. The thesis devides into two parts. First part deals with the situation in post-war Czechoslovakia and Austria till the beginning of the 60s. It shows, how were the societies "set" when the Eichmann-trial came - what were the "prejudices", what was the policy of past dealing with. Second part includes the analysis of press-articles taken from different Austrian and Czechoslovakian newspaper and magazines (daily, weekly and monthly). From general to concrete is the way of the analysis which enables to show as the wider frame of the reaction as answers to the concrete questions. Outcomes are evaluated as continuously, as in the final conclusion.
