Arabisms in the Present-Day French

The thesis Arabisms in the Present-Day French deals with loanwords from the Arabic language in contemporary French. It is divided into theoretical and practical part. The first part defines the concept of Arabisms and describes the issue of borrowing in more detail. It deals with the circumstances of the adoption of Arabisms into French and also with the modification mechanisms for their integration. The second part consists in corpus research, which aims to evaluate the occurrence of French slang expressions of Arabic origin in contemporary French.

Doublets in the Present-Day French

The aim of this Bachelor's thesis is to describe the phenomenon of doublets in the Present-Day French. The work is divided into two parts - the theoretical and the experimental. The first part aims to describe the evolution of French language in diachronic approach as well as to explain the term doublet and its division. The experimental part consists of analysing the use of selected doublets in linguistic corpus over centuries.

The Abstract The name of the dissertation: The position of adjectives in Spanish and French - increasing tendency The keywords: adjective, Spanish, French, a position of adjectives, anteposition, postposition, increasing tendency. The dissertation named The position of adjectives in Spanish and French French - increasing tendency deals with issues of position of adjectives in French and Spanish language. The main topic of this dissertation is tendency to anteposition for these two languages. It's split to several parts which are separated by themes. At the beginning, we are focusing on adjectives in general and to its basic properties as a part of speech. After, we will get to know an adjective from semantic and syntactic aspect, which is underlying exactly for the position of adjective. In the end of the theoretical part we will also focus on increasing tendency in this area. The practical part will be about corpus and questionnaire research which is intended for native speakers. The aim of this dissertation is confirm or disprove a hypothesis of common tendency to anteposition for French and Spanish adjectives.

The substantivised infinitive in French

v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with the substantivised infinitive in contemporary French. After defining the basic terms (noun, infinitive and substantivisation) the characteristics of the lexicalized subtantivised infinitives and the related infinitive forms are observed in detail. Both of these categories are analyzed from the semantic, morphological, syntactic and marginally also diachronic perspective with simultaneous consultation of authoritative French grammars, dictionaries and other scholar works. The second part which is the actual focus of the work concentrates on marginally used substantivized infinitives which have not been lexicalised yet. The research is carried out on the basis of the French corpus FRANTEXT.

Jana Šindelářová DEPARTMENT: Department of Education SUPERVISOR: PhDr. RNDr. Hana Voňková, Ph.D. et Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The aim of this thesis is to find out why Czech secondary school students chose to study French as their second foreign language and how satisfied they are with this decision. The theoretical part concerns itself with teaching languages in European schools and in the Czech Republic with the focus on French language. Furthermore, it deals with the status of French language both in the world and in the Czech Republic, and with the benefits the knowledge of French language brings. The empirical part of this thesis depicts a research conducted by means of questionnaire construction. The sample was 100 students from the lower and 163 students from the higher stage of secondary schools called "gymnasium" (grammar school) in Prague. (185 girls and 78 boys) The research shows that students chose the foreign language mainly themselves and the most frequent reason for choosing French was that they liked the language in general. Destiny of French as a Language of Diplomacy: Situation in the Czech Republic

The Diploma thesis deals with the current status of French as a language of diplomacy and with the role and the position of French in the Czech Republic. The goal of the theoretical part is to define the term diplomacy, to summarize significant periods of French language in the history of diplomacy, to deal with the factors which influence language status and to observe competitors of French. It focuses on six selected languages: English, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic and Chinese. It is trying to show the particularities of French as a diplomatic language. In the practical part, its goal is firstly to outline diplomatic organizations in our country and to describe their function. On the basis of the latest statistics and other collected data by means of interviews, the thesis illustrates the changes which can be traced in the language recently. Concerning the Czech Republic, it shows the changes caused by the accession to the EU and by the introduction of the CEFRL. In the end, it suggests three possible hypotheses of subsequent development of the French language in the world.
