Experimental data processing for calibration of isotropic hardening model

The main aim of the present bachelor's thesis is to create a universally applicable script, which is used for the data processing of the fatigue test in order to calibrate the isotropic hardening model. The theoretical part is devoted to the phenomenon of cyclic hardening/softening, the mathematical models of hardening and last but not least, the practice of fatigue tests together with the possibilities of their evaluation. The rest of the work includes the algorithm creation procedure and demonstration of its functionality by processing data from fatigue tests of alloy AlCu4Mg1.

This bachelor´s thesis deals with processing of technics and methods of aircraft testing. Even the name shows that this theme is very demanding and extensive. Therefore was the aim to simplify this area and compile his summary. The work is divided into three basic areas of static strength tests, fatigue tests and flight tests. At the beginning of each area is familiar with the issues and methods to solving problems. For lucidity is each area subdivided and accompanied by pictures.

Types of fatigue tests and methods of data processing

Bachelor thesis is focused on fatigue testing and creating of S-N curves. In the first part three main stages of fatigue life are processed in order of making theoretical knowledge needed. Next the thesis is focused on dividing methods for making these tests and machines that are used for these tests and shows under which circumstances they are appropriate to use. Last part is dedicated to methods of creating of S-N curves.

Simulation of fatigue crack propagation in the wing main spar flange

Simulation of fatigue crack growth in the bottom flange of twin turboprop commuter aircraft wing spar is described in this paper. Analysed crack propagation scenario represents real wing full-scale fatigue test failure. Computational model of bottom flange was prepared using three-dimensional fracture mechanics software FRANC3D. Calculation of crack growth under the variable amplitude loading was performed in AFGROW code using the NASGRO equation and Wheeler retardation model. It was verified with the results of wing spar specimen fatigue test and fractograpic analysis of fatigue fracture from this experiment. Computational model was applied in the prognostic algorithm of structure health monitoring system.

Loading processes with various spectral properties for fatigue tests

The paper describes mothods used for generating of Gaussian proceses with prescribed spectral densities and their implementation on electro-hydraulic testing machines for combined loading. Tube speciments were loaded by random forces and in torgue by diferent proceses. Since the machine does not interpret input proceses precisely, the actual proceses were measured, iterated and procesed into a complex damaging stres and its spectral properties.

An influence of prestress by combined random loading

The contribution deals with findings concerning an influence of static load in combination with random dynamic torgue on fatigue life of tube specimens made out of the steel ČSN 411523.1. A generalized formula has been found for fatigue life expressed in a number of loading blocks of torgue process as a function of its standard deviation. It joins both components of the combined loading in one expression. The formula yields very precise estimates of fatigue lives.
