Halásová, Michaela ; Soudek, Jan (advisor) ; Fišerová, Tereza (referee)
In many cases the organization of major sport events brings various benefits to hosting economies, especially those resulting from encouraged tourism. However, these events carry extensive costs coming mostly from public resources which could be used for other purposes, e.g. healthcare. The main goal of this thesis is to analyze the socioeconomic impact of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2015 on Prague and the Moravian-Silesian Region using a Cost-Benefit Analysis in which costs and benefits are summed up and benefit-cost ratio calculated. In our analysis we conclude that the event was beneficial not only for the Czech Ice Hockey Association; the hosting organization reporting profit of 450 million CZK before taxes but also for the regions with a benefit-cost ratio of 5.53, meaning that the benefit created equals 5.53 times the amount the regions invested into the event. Moreover, in this analysis we confirm an overall positive effect of the championship on tourism. Hydroponic farm as a business project
SMUTNÁ, Marta
The aim of this thesis is to verify the economic efficiency and environmental impacts of the practical application of bioeconomics in the form of a business project for the hydroponic farm built by an educational institution. The project plan evaluates the economic efficiency of the alternative method of plant cultivation. The economic analysis is followed by an evaluation of the environmental impacts of hydroponic cultivation. The first chapters of the thesis focus on the theory of bioeconomics, hydroponic cultivation and a description of current world megatrends. The thesis also discusses the role of hydroponics in the context of global challenges and the European Union´s view on hydroponics. It is followed by a chapter describing the methodology for proceeding with the development of a business plan and a cost-benefit analysis methodology. These methodologies provide guidelines for the practical part. The first part of the practical part of this thesis focuses on the business plan for the hydroponic farm project, which includes several subchapters and analyses. First, the characteristics of the owner, project and products are described, followed by analyses of the market, customers, competitors and suppliers, then the staffing, marketing strategy are described and the project implementation schedule is presented. All costs and revenues are quantified in detail in the individual chapters and from these, a financial plan is summarized, including financial statements and projections for various scenarios and options for financing the project. Subsequently, the economic management of the project and its potential success is evaluated using evaluation indicators, risk analysis, PESTEL, Porter's analysis of 5 competitive forces and SWOT analysis. The hydroponic project is then compared with the conventional agriculture production within the cost-benefit analysis and evaluated from an environmental perspective in association with theoretical knowledge and information.
The pay-off of increased physical activity in the Czech Republic: A cost-benefit analysis of offering people financial incentives to alter their exercise behavior
Schnabl, Valentin ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Turdaliev, Salim (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to determine whether financial incentive to increase exercise behavior are economically feasible in the Czech Republic. We therefore construct a cost-savings model that compares current physical activity levels in the Czech Republic with two hypothetical physical activity improvement scenarios to assess the potential healthcare savings of a more fit population. The model follows an epidemiological approach and estimates potential healthcare savings based on the association of physical inactivity with five major non-communicable diseases. We conclude that neither improvement scenario justifies the implementation of financial incentive, as their costs are likely to exceed their benefits. Nonetheless our estimates show that healthcare expenditures due to physical inactivity are substantial. In particular, those associated with diabetes.
