Sports slang and variability - the emivonment of volleyball
Ševčíková, Božena ; Palkosková, Olga (advisor) ; Chejnová, Pavla (referee)
The subject of this thesis is the in time variability of sport slang, namely from the environment of volleyball. In Západočeská vlastivěda devoted to language from 1992 I found a study by Marie Terčová focused on sport slang. Slang of sport shooting and volleyball are compared there. The study also includes a dictionary of volleyball slang from 1987 comprising about 444 entries. I decided to compare the vocabulary of 1987 and contemporary. It was necessary to gather the expressions used by contemporary speakers to contemporary dictionary and then compare the two of them. The initial hypotheses were a higher number of expressions in the older dictionary and also higher number of synonymy expressions, changes in the meanings of many of words. Next hypotheses were a higher concentration of borrowed words in the contemporary dictionary and the majority of transpositional mechanisms in the creation of expressions. The last hypothesis was, that the meaning of the expressions occurring in the older dictionary only, are unknown to contemporary speakers. The former four were discussed by the comparison, the last one by a questionnaire.
Comparison of the dramatic artwork with its contemporary staging. Tom Stoppard : Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Bočková, Anežka ; Hník, Ondřej (advisor) ; Hausenblas, Ondřej (referee)
The theme of my bachelor thesis is a comparison of a dramatic artwork Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard with its contemporary staging in Celetná theatre. First of all I would like to grasp theoretically the relationship between play and its staging, then I want to deal with the role of the director and also with the interpretation of drama. I will introduce Tom Stoppard, his biography with important life milestones, which are somehow related to the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. My goal is to show bits of the play, which could be interpreted divergently in the dramatic artwork and in its staging. I will go through all of the components of the original play and the staging and look for the possible differences of interpretation and their reasons. In comparison, I perceive changes in the impression of both of the works. I am going to work mainly with the dramatic artwork and its staging, because there is almost none secondary literature on this topic. My goal is to show bits of the play, which could be interpreted divergently. I demostrate the possibility of different interpretation on three examples. The first example are the gaps in the storyline, which Stoppard uses as a space for his brilliant play on words. However the staging seems to emphasize this humorous...
Thomas Mann's Myth Concept and Ivan Olbracht's sub-Carpathian Proses
Zitová, Olga ; Holý, Jiří (advisor) ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (referee)
This thesis deals with a myth concept in Thomas Mann's and Ivan Olbracht's work. In regard to the tertium comparationis, which is myth, Mann's novels Joseph and His Brothers (Joseph und seine Brüder) and Doctor Faustus (Doktor Faustus) as well as Olbracht's novels The Bitter and the Sweet (Nikola Šuhaj loupežník) and Valley of Exile (Golet v údolí) are analysed. The concepts of these two authors are being compared both on a genetic level, which includes a possible influence of the tetralogy Joseph and His Brothers on Olbracht's work, and on a typological level. The second one includes analogies, which are independent of the possible direct influence. The thesis is methodological based on interpretation of fictional texts and their continuous comparison considering a literary-historical context and cultural-historical background of that time. Especially in some details, it can be considered that Thomas Mann had a direct influence on Olbracht's work in case of both of the novels. A number of analogies have been found, which exemplify a resemblance between the authors but which don't deny that Olbracht was an autonomous and creative personality at the same time. The specific myth concept of both authors harmonise with a period tendency in the modern literature.

Comparison of Italian text and Czech translation of Věčný pekelný žalář
Jasanská, Zuzana ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Flemrová, Alice (referee)
The task of this diploma thesis is to confront the writing La prigione eterna dell'Inferno that was written by Giovanni Battista Manni with its Czech translation that was made by Václav Matěj Šteyer. This piece of writing, La prigione, was published in 1666 and the Šteyer's work in 1676. The writer Šteyer translated the text directly from the Italian one according to the fourth publication of Manni's master copy from the year 1669 because Manni changed there some passages in last two chapters and these changes are seen in the Czech version too. Neither Manni's writing was not original. He was inspired by a tract that was written by the Spanish Jesuit, Juan Eusebio Nieremberg. I observed the way how Šteyer proceeded in the translation of Manni's master copy, especially in the field of lexicon, syntax and stylistics. I also concerned how the rhetoric of Jesuit schools is presented by both authors.
