Identity and Displacement in Contemporary Postcolonial Fiction

English summary The main objective of this thesis is to present some key issues relevant for postcolonial field of study with respect to two basic areas of interest: concepts of identity and place, respectively displacement in contemporary postcolonial discourse and their reflection in fiction, too. The thesis should provide the potential reader with basic theoretical background based on the most fundamental sources and by means of selected literary works it should support (or disclaim, if necessary) conclusions reached by the most notable theories. This dissertation work consists of three major parts. In the introduction, apart from providing the motivational, theoretical and literary objectives of the thesis, I cover some basic difficulties that may occur when dealing with the postcolonial field of study. The central part of the thesis can be divided into two parts, each of them consisting of two further sections. The first one, "Identity in Postcolonial Discourse", is focused on one of the key terms in all of postcolonial theory: identity and other concepts related with it. I cover the basic development of theoretical reflection concerning this concept, drawing primarily from secondary sources dealing with it. Representation of time in cartographic works on the example of maps of historical battles

Representation of time in cartographic works on the example of maps of historical battles Abstract This study contains an in-depth analysis of possible graphical presentation of the fourth cartographic dimension (time) and utilizes the acquired findings in prototypical animated maps of historical battles. The initial chapter reflects cartography in general, later, the area of animated maps is in focus. The first part of the text is dedicated to the connection of cartography and time. Practical means of time representation are described. Further, a recommended general pattern is specified for design and development of time legend, so that time presentation suits the nature of the depicted theme. Consecutively, this general pattern is applied to a set of pieces of cartographical work depicting (historical) battles. The tangible result of this work is an interactive cartographic animation presenting the battle of Gettysburg and preceding events. Keywords: time, cartography, temporal legend, animated map, battle

LEIPERTOVÁ, G. (2010): Mathematical skills applied to teaching of cartography at high school. Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University in Prague. The present bachelor thesis focuses on application of mathematical skills in the teaching of cartography at high school. It is concerned with the role of and interdisciplinary relations between cartography and mathematics in the curriculum. The content analysis of the chosen textbooks evaluates the relations between cartography and mathematics on the basis of presence of required subject matter, its quality and the amount of practical examples. Furthermore, chapters of geographic and thematic cartography, where mathematical knowledge is applied, are defined and specified in details. The last part of the bachelor thesis deals with cartographic exercises, whose solutions require mathematical skills.
Kartografická prezentace v atlasové tvorbě

This thesis is devoted to clarifying the issue of atlas production offer and its availability within the scope of the Czech republic. An atlas is a collection of maps interconnected via their purpose, theme, scale coefficient or scale coefficient set, generalization and other system aspects. These are conceptually processed cartographically and polygraphicaly as a unified work. The opening part explains the characteristics of atlas production including the historical development of cartography which is related to this issue. The following part depicts the division of atlases according the individual typology. Another thing elucidated here is which atlases are available in the Czech republic. Only selected atlases are mentioned in this section. The main section of this thesis focuses on the specific cartographic representation and cartographic presentation at a given area. It is a modern method of presentation alternative and utilization of a cartographic digital production what is engaged here.
Creation of maps and plans for use in sports and leisure - Yachting

In this thesis there is closely described the creation of tourist and yachting maps using the Czech largest water dam Lipno and a small Croatian region in the Adriatic Sea as an example. The thesis also referes the usage of mapping and cartography for jachting and tourism. Methodics of this thesis was taken from cartographic principles and yachting and tourist methods. Introductory chapters provide elemental information about yachting, and the development of navy maps. Important part is the analysis of yachting maps and their usage with other yachting tools. At the end of the thesis there is the comparison of Czech and navy maps used for yachting, their appraisal and a discussion with some suggestions for the improvement of these maps. The graphical part and photographs are listed in yachting methodics and in attachments.
Map Creation Environment using OpenStreetMap Project Data

This bachelor's thesis deals with the development of environment for creating maps using OpenStreetMap vector data. The final application allows to change appearance of maps and to import data from external sources (e.g. own tracks). The text contains a theoretical introduction, the information about the OpenStreetMap project and the information about the Google My Tracks application. Further, this text deals with the application design, implementation and testing. The conclusion summarizes achieved results and suggests some proposals how to extend the application.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the development of application that allows you to create maps from OpenStreetMap project data and change their appearance. The work contains an introduction to cartography, information about OpenStreeMap project and rendering library Mapnik. The main focus of the text is a description of the design and implementation of the application itself, including the final testing and evaluation.
Cartographical works for pre-school children

The principal aim of this master´s thesis has been to analyze the available Czech and foreign cartographic works that may be used wholly or partly for preschool children. A design and a model of an orientation map of a village for educational needs in nursery schools and the first stage of primary schools are part of the work. A basic map of the village of Boretice (a disctrict of Breclav) has been used as a basis for creation of my own design of a map. The usability of the newly designed map has been tested in the local nursery school.

Monumental places of the Moravien geodesy and cartography

The thesis deals with description of location related to the personalities that were important for geodesy and cartography and worked in Moravia or Silesia. Apart from personalities, it also pursues with important trigonometric and leveling points, archives and towns with other interesting movable and immovable monuments related to geodesy and cartography. There are also schools where people can study geodesy and cartography now. One chapter is devoted to the Moravian cartographic center in Velké Opatovice.
