Adults with Asperger's Syndrome and Their Compensatory Mechanisms

The aim of the diploma thesis entitled Compensatory mechanisms in adults with Asperger's syndrome is to answer the main research question: What compensatory mechanisms do adults with Asperger's syndrome use during integration into society and what social consequences do they face? The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and research. The theoretical part presents readers with expertise from Czech and foreign publications. The introductory part deals with the characteristic of Autism spectrum disorders (ASD), Asperger's syndromem (AS), etiology and interesting myths about the development of autism spectrum disorders. The following chapters provide information on the integration of adults with AS into society, possible barriers to social integration and social skills training that can be supported by social workers. The next chapters present a long-term prognosis, compensation mechanisms and their possible social consequences. Title: Assessment of motor skills in children of younger school age with autism spectrum disorder practising applied behavior analysis with the MABC-2 test battery Objectives: The aim of the work is to assess the motor skills of children of younger school age with autism spectrum disorder using the test battery MABC-2 (Movement Assessment Battery for Children - Second Edition). The obtained results will be compared with the standards for Czech children and children with autism spectrum disorder who do not practice Applied Behavior Analysis. Methods: The motor skills of children with autism spectrum disorder were assessed using the MABC-2 test battery (Henderson et al., 2007) - Movement Assessment Battery for Children - Second Edition. The method of comparison was used in the work, namely the results of children with autism spectrum disorder with standards for Czech children and both groups of tested children - one group practicing applied behavior analysis with another group of children without intervention. Results: We found that children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in our sample showed a significantly higher incidence of motor problems. The importance of motivation in mentally disabled students

The theoretical part of the thesis deals with definition of classification of mental disabilities, education of pupils with mental disabilities and motivation for education for pupils with mental disabilities. The practical part examines, through semi-structured interview, observation and questionnaire, importance of motivation of pupils with mental disabilities, if there are differences between motivated and not motivated pupils. Which motivational elements are functional and whether pupils with mental disabilities have a need to achieve success and avoid failure. The aim of this master's thesis is to describe the possibilities of interprofessional cooperation of an occupational therapist and a behavioral analyst in selected personal activities of daily living in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With the help of activity analysis the view of both experts was demonstrated resulting in the description of their therapeutic intervention. The theoretical part describes the basic characteristics of ASD including selected personal activities of daily living with which children with ASD may have difficulties. The following chapters are about the basic principles of occupational therapy including the description of activity analysis, which is one of the important evaluation methods in occupational therapy. Furthermore the history and the basic characteristics of applied behavioral analysis (ABA) is described focusing on activity analysis used in the ABA program. This diploma thesis is focuses on the individualization of the education of pupils with autism spectrum disorder in the education. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part of the thesis describes and defines autism spectrum disorders, nemely chilhood autism, atypical autism, Asperger's and Rett's syndrome and disintigration disorder in childhood. Development of communication of skills of children with autism spectrum disorder

The bachelors thesis is of a special pedagogical character focusing on speech therapy. It deals with the development of communication skills in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The thesis goal is to introduce ASD issue; communication in general and with regard to people with ASD and with augmentative and alternative communication. The theoretical part is divided into three parts. The first part defines autism spectrum disorders, deals briefly with the causes, division and diagnosis. The second part describes communication as such, speech development and impaired communication skills. The thesis deals with the setting of functional communication using the Picture Exchange Communication System method at people with autism spectrum disorder through individual levels of education and is divided into the theoretical and the practical part. The key terms explaining the problematic of autism, significance of communication and education of people with autism spectrum disorder introduces the theoretical part which is split into a few areas. The main overarching is the Picture Exchange Communications System methods which compensates the disorder in communication of an individual with autism spectrum disorder either temporarily or permanently. Furthermore, based on the interviews with participants in the educational process, the thesis analyzes the application of the method and cooperation of the individual educational institutions but also parents. In the empirical part are the interviews complemented by the case study which completes the whole picture of research problem in question. The output of the thesis are recommendations compared with the results of the conducted research.
