Life of a patient with ankylosing spondylitis
ŠÍMOVÁ, Markéta
The bachelor thesis deals with the life of a patient with ankylosing spondylitis. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part presents anatomy and physiology of the spine, ankylosing spondylitis, its diagnosis and therapy. Furthermore, attention was paid to nursing care, communication and needs in everyday life of a patient with ankylosing spondylitis. The practical part of the bachelor's thesis was conducted through a qualitative research investigation, using the method of questioning, the technique of individual semi-structured interview. The study sample consisted of 7 patients with ankylosing spondylitis in a healthcare facility. Three objectives were chosen for the bachelor thesis. The first aim was to find out in which areas of normal daily activities ankylosing spondylitis affects the patient. The second aim was to investigate the role of the patient's family in the integration of the patient into normal daily activities. The third aim was to explore patients' perceptions of nurses' support in relation to their illness. In line with the objectives, research questions were set. Based on the results, it was found that patients with AS manage normal daily activities independently or with only minor assistance. Patients use compensatory aids to help them cope better with everyday activities. Treatment has a big impact on the patient's life, even though they use spa treatments and exercise daily. The research also showed that the support of family and friends plays a big role in the patient's life. Patients require more information from the nurse in collaboration with the doctor about treatment options, compensatory aids, exercise and social support.
Activity of Volunteers in Retirement Homes During the COVID-19 Pandemic
POSLUŠNÁ, Věra
Volunteering is an integral part of human life. Volunteering can be understood as a meaningful activity that helps the needy, is held of free will and without the right to financial reward. The social field is one of the most needed areas in which volunteers can work. This bachelor thesis deals with the activities of volunteers in retirement homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main goal is to analyze the performance of volunteering in retirement homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. A partial goal is a subsequent comparison of the experience of individual homes for the elderly with volunteering during a pandemic and to provide examples of good practice. The strategy of qualitative research was chosen for the research of this bachelor thesis. The data were collected by the method of questioning, which took place using the technique of semi-controlled interview. It was then evaluated by an open coding process, in a pencil-paper manner. Following the open coding process, categories were created, which were then divided into three areas. For greater clarity, a diagram was created from each category, which presents the given category. Based on the research, it was found that the classic volunteer activity, thanks to the Government regulation in the Czech Republic and special precantions of the Ministry of Health, did not take place at all. Only in the periods of liberalization of the previously mentioned regulations and precantions, which, however, were few, did some homes for the elderly return to classic volunteer activities. On the contrary, it is clear from the research that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers were actively involved and were beneficial for users and homes for the elderly.

Sub-questions were set for individual partial research questions. In order to answer the research questions, the obtained data were processed by the bunch method and subsequently interpreted according to individual partial research questions. The research mapped the specifics of the services provided by individual selected POSEZ contact points. These specifics concerned the area of operation of contact points, basic and above-standard project activities and the specifics of further development. Thanks to the project of the Central Bohemian Region called POSEZ, in individual cities it was possible to help seniors from households to spend their free time actively, get a place where they can come for advice and try a number of possible activities such as education, but also activation activities or various types of counseling activities. Each of these places is very unique, as its activities and choice of activities depend on many different factors in the localities, such as the needs of seniors in individual cities or the availability of services for seniors in these localities, premises, personnel and operational options and more. Some contact points were created depending on another functioning service, others contact points are created independently, under the auspices of, for example, social services or other organizations dealing with senior issues. The results of this diploma thesis will serve the latest and future contact points. The work will also serve as a good material for establishing a new POSEZ contact point, but also as an inspiring template for the creation of other services in all contact points. Furthermore, the thesis can serve as feedback for the author of the project and individual contact points, but can also provide valuable information to students and people dealing with this topic.
