Mapping the role of the child in generation gap
Hrdličková, Michaela ; Zvírotský, Michal (advisor) ; Richterová, Magdalena (referee)
In my bachelor's thesis entitled Mapping the role of the child in intergenerational relationships using case studies, I focused on the important role of family upbringing in the life of the child and his/her relationship with the grandparents. Through qualitative research I looked for differences in parenting. In my small scale research sample, I met children who showed interest in their grandparents. In my work, I examined both people who are caring or have cared for a loved one and their reasons for doing so, as well as the elderly who are being cared for. I was interested in how satisfied they are with their care, and whether there is a difference between seniors who are intensively cared for by their loved ones or who are dependent on the care of other people in a facility. From the questionnaires I found out that people who care for someone regularly are extremely mentally and physically exhausted, but they do it gladly and with love. Some feel it is an obligation, but if they are able to provide care themselves, they always want to take care of their loved one. Seniors, whether living at home or in a facility, are happy to have someone helping them with their care and they are not alone. How each person deals with their old age is very individual, it depends on their satisfaction with the...

Kovařčíková, Iveta ; Machač, Stanislav (advisor) ; Demeková, Júlia (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on a pilot assessment of selected tests for the prediction of fall risk in the elderly. The theoretical part deals with falls and their risk factors, the possibilities of assessing the risk of falls by means of functional tests and instrumental methods, as well as the possibilities of fall prevention. A total of 81 seniors (mean age 78.5±8.5 years) were included in the actual study, 78 of whom completed the entire follow-up. All probands completed The Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and subsequent gait and standing stability measurements via Oculus' Meta Quest 2 virtual reality (VR) headset using piloted apps designed by VR Medical. Incidence of falls was collected by telephone and email correspondence over the following 6 months. There was no statistically or substantively significant difference in the duration of the TUG test between the control group and the group of probands who suffered a fall during the follow-up period (12.9±6.9 vs. 11.5±5.0 s; p=0.99; Cohen's d=0.02). The probands in the control group who did not suffer a fall showed a higher step cycle time variability compared to the probands who suffered a fall (SD=0.54±0.40 vs. 0.38±0.55 s). However, the difference between the groups with and without a fall in step cycle variability was far from statistically...

The aim of the bachelor thesis entitled "Specific nursing care for a frail senior" was to map the specifics of nursing care for a fragile senior and to find out the use of evaluation tests in practice, or to find the most adequate tool for the evaluation of seniors. In the theoretical part of the bachelor thesis, I focused on the definition of the concept of old age and aging and the problems associated with it, as well as on a detailed description of geriatric frailty from a theoretical point of view and, last but not least, on the assessment scales for a comprehensive assessment of seniors. The chapter is also devoted to proper nutrition in old age, which should not be forgotten in health care and personal life and is often key in the prevention and treatment of diseases. Part of the bachelor thesis is also devoted to risk areas that threaten seniors with geriatric frailty. The last subchapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the importance of motivation in the process of returning the senior's self-sufficiency and not giving up the goal and hope when being bedridden. The practical part of the bachelor thesis was filled with quantitative research investigation, using evaluation tests: SPPB to assess the physical fitness of seniors (see Appendix 1), questionnaire SARC-F (see Annex 2) to determine the degree of sarcopenia and Criteria for the evaluation of fragility according to Friedová (see Appendix 3). Part of the research was carried out in the Home for the Elderly in Bechyně, the other part consisted of members of my family and neighbors over 70 years of age. Testing was anonymous and completely voluntary. The research was processed by means of tables and graphs and statistical processing of hypotheses was done by Chi-square test and correlation method. The aim was early identification of frail patient in health care settings and finding a suitable measurement tool for clinical practice.
