Garden is the only real world for the gardener: Case study of the garden allotments Cibulka and Technomat in Prague
Valešová, Irena ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Zandlová, Markéta (referee)
This work is based on the article by Jan Keller (2000) - Praise of Gardeners, in which Jan Keller mentioned garden allotments as places distatnt to globalized economy and consumerist lifestyle of today's world. The aim is to verify if the content of this article corresponds to the true situation in the selected garden allotments in Prague. This work can help to get an idea of the benefits of the garden allotments not only for gardeners but for all inhabitants of the capital. For this purpose, I conducted a field research accompanied by a number of interviews in the garden allotments. Technomat and Cibulka in Prague. I have gained a lot of informations about life in the garden allotments as well as about the relationship of the respondents to their own gardens. I watched whether and to what extend is the life in the garden allotments influenced by the economic, ecological, social and propert-legal aspects. Research shows that gardeners actually live a non-consumerist way of life and partly resisting market mechanism, but only inside of the garden allotments, not outside. Their environmental friendly behavior is due to external factors rather than internal as personal beliefs. The garden allotments do not have such important role in social terms as it may seem at the first sight, but on the other...

Foschiová, Regina ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Pech, Milan (referee)
The thesis named The Trends in Exhibiting Contemporary Art in Prague galleries deals with the topic of displaying and mediating contemporary art in the galleries and exhibitions. The thesis focuses on the elements of the complex issue and the particular exhibitions held in Prague from 2007 to 2011. Each element is covered in one dedicated chapter - the artwork, the viewer, the curator and the gallery. The chapter about the artwork summarizes the evolution of this term in the 20th century. The chapter about the viewer pursues the biological aspects of the process of seeing and perception and the relationship between the viewer and the image. The chapter about the work of the curator of the contemporary art focuses on the evolution of their part in the galleries' working process from the figure of Harald Szeemann to the term The Crisis of Curator. The gallery is introduced as a three- dimensional term: as a space for exhibitions, an institution and a mediating scope. The examples included in each chapter are derived from the Prague galleries and exhibition spaces and so the thesis also deals with the topic of Prague gallery scene. The final chapter is constituted of ten exhibitions that were held in Prague from 2007 to 2011 and are in my opinion the most important and significant ones for that...

Musical and textual sources, used in analysis, was furthermore properly investigated. Through mutual comparison was suggested stemma, indicated to relations between these sources and simultaneously to processes, proceeded during transfer of work between particular theaters. I pay attention especially to axis Vienna-Prague-Dresden in period 1788-1789.
The reflection of Jewishness in Prague in the German literature in the period of 1900-1920
Dvořáková, Lenka ; Weinberg, Manfred (advisor) ; Hadwiger, Julia Nina Vanessa (referee)
In 1849 were all ghettos in the Austrian Empire abolished which led to free movement and settlement of the Jews. This procuration started important economical, but more importantly social possibilities which were some of the reasons for Jewish emancipation. Before the year 1900 was determined the demolition (decontamination) of the Prague Jewish quarter, so called ghetto, which was perceived as one of the last symbols of the former unfree position of the Jews. The author of this thesis will examine novels from period 1900 1920 above all of Jewish, in German writing writers. The subject of the study will be whether and how did the people see ongoing existence of the ghetto, even though it was demolished, what kind of influence did this process have on Czech-German-Jewish relationship, how was looked upon the Jews by the majority society, how did the Jews see themselves, etc. The emphasis will be laid on the personal feelings and projection of the authors in the historical context. Assimilation of the Jews to the Czech and German population and the increasing Zionism will be taken into consider, but the examination of these processes is not the main focus of this thesis.
