The paintings in the cloister of St. Wenceslas Church in the context of wall paintings at the turn of the 16th century in Olomouc
Haragová, Vladěna ; Ottová, Michaela (advisor) ; Royt, Jan (referee)
The first part of the paper deals with the mural paintings on a Christological theme decorating the northern and eastern walls of the High Gothic ambulatory, which is a part of the National cultural monument Přemyslid Castle. Last Judgement, Annunciation, Adoration of the Magi and Adoration of the Shepherds are depicted on the northern side of the cloister. On the opposite wall between the windows there is a representation of two donators. The eastern front of the ambulatory is decorated with scenes depicting the Crucifixion, Lamentation, Resurrection and Christ with the Arma Christi. Paintings are dated successively from the late 15th century to the first two decades of the 16th century. The different dating of paintings, of course, demonstrates various inspirational sources. The study also reflects many recent discoveries that reveal the origins of the decoration of the cloister. These paintings were probably commissioned by members of the Olomouc Chapter, who were in close contact with Humanistic Societas Maierhofiana. Further the paper focuses on the wall paintings in the John the Baptist' Chapel, where the scenes adorn not only the walls, but also the vault of the eastern field. The frescos were probably created between 1493 and 1517 by the hands of several painters.

Monasteries in Danger. Disputes about Liquidation of Czech and Moravian Monasteries of the "Old Orders" in the Period before the Battle of White Mountain
Chládek, Oldřich ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Maur, Eduard (referee) ; x, (referee)
Liquidation of monasteries in the era of Reformations is a phenomenon which has been studied only to a certain level. There were very many cases of abolished or liquidated monasteries. The author concentrates only on two cases (Augustinian canonries in Kłodzko and Olomouc) where efforts to liquidate a monastery were met with resistance from the community or monastic structures. It is a multilayered topic, requiring a thorough analysis. Due to the fact that these disputes were interfered by a number of influential personalities (supreme provincial officials, nuncios, bishops, superiors of monastic orders etc.), it represents an ideal material to study the relationships within the high society in the era before the Battle of White Mountain. Besides the high politics we can also focus on other aspects - such as legal arguments of the conflicting parties or linguistic, art historical or theological layer. After research not only in Czech, but also in foreign archives (e.g. Rome, Kraków, Kłodzko, Wrocław, Vienna), the author refills or corrects older conclusions (Jan Tenora, Aloys Bach etc.). He also tries to verify the theory that within the Catholic Church those monasteries were abolished which were - in the economic and also spiritual layer - in a state of deep crisis.
ARIARUM DELINEATIONUM ET PLERARUM PAULI PAGANI ET ALIORUM. Drawings by Paolo Pagani and artists from his circle in the albums of the Research Library in Olomouc
Lorencová, Veronika ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Kazlepka, Zdeněk (referee) ; Mádl, Martin (referee)
The subject of the dissertation is a set of drawings by Paolo Pagani (1655-1716) kept in the Research Library in Olomouc. The drawings of this Lombard artist have been preserved there, among other drawings mainly of Italian and Central European provenance. These drawings occupy a privileged position in the whole context of his work. Pagani, came from an artistic family originally from the Lombard town of Castello Valsolda. Already in the 1660s, he moved to Venice, where he probably entered the workshop of the local painter Giuseppe Diamantini (1621-1705). He is recorded as an active artist in Venice until June 1690. In that year he was apparently invited by Emperor Leopold I to Vienna, where he went with his young student Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini. Pagani stayed beyond the Alps for a total of six years. In relation to the Olomouc set of drawings, Paolo Pagani's stay in Moravia and his work in the service of the Bishop of Olomouc, Charles II of Lichtenstein-Castelcorn, is particularly important. The thesis updates the existing research related to the work of Paolo Pagani, defines the function of individual drawings, and opens the question of their dating and authorship. The drawings from Olomouc, which have not been associated with any realisation so far, are confronted with other drawings from...
