Masaryk’s Concept of Central European and Whole-European Democratic Unity
Bednář, Miloslav
By 1915 in London Thomas G. Masaryk publicly identified and described the origins of WW I as the neuralgic mid-European belt of minor nations between Germany and Russia presenting the geo-political core of the so called Eastern Question. For Masaryk, this Central Europe presented the most exigent and acute impetus for the allied democratic transformation of the political organization of Europe. By 1919 Halford J. Mackinder proclaimed his famous Heartland concept in the same vein. Masaryk’s plan was to gradually establish a United States of Europe out of transatlantic cooperation between a confederation of European old and new democracies and the U.S. Masaryk’s concept of democratic European unity obviously contradicts the core concept of the European Union that aims at a gradual elimination of European democracies.
Protestné hnutia v Hongkongu
Chodúrová, Dominika
The bachelor thesis deals with a topic of the protest movements in Hong Kong, which took place in year 2014 and 2019. The first part of the thesis presents the historical and political context that preceded the protests in 2014. This part also describes a theoretical overview related to social and protest movements. In the analytical part of the thesis, both of the protest movements are analyzed through two separate case studies. Using a comparative method, the thesis compares the essential elements of both movements and analyzes whether they have undergone a change or not. He analyzes the causes of the change with the help of the authors dealing with the issue of protests in Hong Kong and the theory of social movements. The results of Bachelor thesis is the finding that the nature of the movement in 2019 was distinct in various aspects, especially in the form of tactics and actions of its participants. The biggest change in the movement in 2019 was the radicalization of some of its groups and their actions. Persistent political problems and the frustration of some participants, who believed that nonviolent means were ineffective, were identified as the main causes of radicalization. The movement's radicalization and change in tactics was also a response to repression by the Hong Kong government and police. The leadership of the movement also underwent a change. This time it was not represented by any publicly known leaders. The main reason for the non-existence of leaders in the 2019 movement was the fact that the leadership of the 2014 movement was prosecuted after its ending.
Demokracie jako předpoklad vstupu Turecka do EU
Konečný, Štěpán
Democracy is an essential prerequisite for any country to join the EU. My thesis focuses on the state of democracy in the Republic of Turkey today and its accession to the EU at the same time. I began to investigate the nature of Turkish democracy from the very inception of Turkey. The historical context has helped me to understand the evolution of Turkish democracy to its present form. I have mainly focused on the development from the beginning of the new century to the present day. I have checked whether Turkey is moving towards or away from democracy by using the Democracy Index. I also looked at what conditions are imposed when it comes to Turkey's accession to the EU and how Turkey has been and is being able to meet the conditions. As a result, Turkey's drift away from democracy and the current stagnation of accession negotiations is hampering undemocratic sentiments in the current Turkish political scene.

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of communication of youth organizations of the populist movements ANO 2011 and the Freedom and Direct Democracy (Svoboda a přímá demokracie). The thesis presents different approaches to the study of populism. Due to the topic of the diploma thesis, the work is inclined to understand populism as a communication style, which appears to be the most relevant in the context of the goals of the thesis, and defines its core elements that are then reflected in the operationalization of the research questions. In addition to the presentation of different approaches to the study of populism and the identification of its key elements, the theory and functions of youth organizations are also presented, as well as the theory, development and typology of political parties, including the connection of each of them to the concept of populism and the placement of the ANO and SPD movements in the context of this typology. The aim of the thesis is to identify the relationship in terms of communication between the selected youth organizations and their "parent" political parties, as well as to identify what characterizes the external...
