Design of sustainable urban structure of the 21st century in the Czech Republic
Dubinová, Veronika ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The objective of the diploma project was to repurpose the area of military barracks in the residential neighbourhood of Černá Pole in Brno. The thesis sets out to design a new urbanistic concept within the already existing structure, devise a new town square, a park and a town hall for the district of Brno-Sever. In this project, I aimed to fill in the chasm in the current construction and create a new lively neighbourhood. The selected area is to provide its residents with high standard of living and a rich selection of facilities. The essential aspect was to focus on different types of the residential development that surrounds the given perimeter. The eastern and the southern side reveals terraced houses and family houses, while on the west side the conservatory of the Mendel University is laid out and in the north high-rises can be seen. Through this project a new space emerges, activated through various types of residential development while blending with the residual structures. Also, another goal was to design a new town hall for Brno-Sever with a cultural centre, situate a new kindergarten in the area and construct a community centre with sports facilities. Due to the lack of more prominent town square in the city district Černá Pole, the positioning of this feature was highly significant in my project. The designed square should be multifunctional, enabling the residents or wider public a wide range of utilization.
Design of sustainable urban structure of the 21st century in the Czech Republic
Krčková, Zuzana ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The topic of the thesis is a design of an urban structure fitting into the 21st century amidst former military barracks in Brno Černá Pole. The area is square-shaped and defined by the borders of the streets Provazníkova, Mathonova, Bieblova, and Generála Píky. The area is currently divided among three owners: Ministry of Defence & Armed Forces, Resort of Justice, and National Cyber and Information Security Agency (NÚKIB). The premise of the thesis is to build a new city quarter which would provide Brno's citizens with housing solutions, job opportunities, cultural and leisure centres not only for the new but also for the current inhabitants. The design includes also several blocks which aggregate multiple functions: housing, commercial premises, and administrative buildings. Generous volume of space has been given to public spaces, most prominently a square with a new town hall for Brno-sever, culture centre and a park. The examined area is situated between two busy roads which is why designing a suitable connection of the area and the overall traffic situation within the area was essential. This thesis aims to unify the area, cut short the traffic connections and create a compact city quarter close to the centre of Brno.

Jelínková, Anna ; Magnusek, Pavel (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis first deals with the design of "micro-urbanism" on the brownfield, which is located near the center of Brno. This design deals with the right strategy for the development of the site, in regards to the architectural study of the new city district and in regards to the connection to the currently open city block. The main topic of the bachelor's thesis is the design of a new building of the Brno-Central townhall. The aim of the project is to 100% use the potential of the currently unused site and to design a new town hall building for the 21st century. In the project is also counted with the utilization of the adjoining site, which is now used as a not very effective parking lot. This site is located next to the area of the freight part of the Brno station "Mala Amerika", which has a cultural and historical value. The purpose of the project is to revitalize the place both culturally and architecturally and to create an imaginary entrance to the new South quarter of Brno.
Design of a sustainable urban structure - based on a medieval city - for the 21st century.
Bušinová, Eva ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The thesis deals with the design of a sustainable urban structure, based on a medieval city, in the 21st century. The main idea of the proposal is the creation of a new part of the town Náměšť nad Oslavou with the aim of connecting it with the existing urban structure and at the same time extending it to the missing elements of the developing city. The newly built area is designed with an emphasis on the construction of new residential housing with civil facilities services, while designing and creating public spaces and private parts of courtyards and villas. The aim of the thesis was to design a growing territory so that it adapts to the needs of today's society and at the same time became part of the existing city. From an urban point of view, based on the theme of the thesis, the aim is to combine elements of a medieval city with elements of a city built in the 21st century. The concept is based on a planned network of streets with multifunctional buildings designed for trade and production in the ground floor and housing on other floors, which originated in the medieval city. The emblem of the medieval city was the emotional perception of the connection of strict lines and strange shapes into one whole, and therefore buildings were designed in a new part of the city for living with almost clean geometric lines, while the objects of civil facilities are organic shapes.

Vašička, Pavel ; Šindlar, Jiljí (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis deals with the design of the Holocaust Documentation Centre in Moravia. Currently, there are several museums dealing with the Holocaust in our country, but none of them provides comprehensive documentation of the Holocaust. The proposal therefore seeks to create a museum that will be able to report on the Holocaust in a broader context and at the same time will be an attractive environment, especially for visitors living in the multimedia world of the 21st century.

Ancient Mythology in the Trilogy Starcrossed of Josephina Angelini
Roudná, Karolína ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
This Bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of Ancient Mythology in the Starcrossed Trilogy of Josephina Angelini. The inspiration by ancient Greek mythology is evident throughout the series, as it's practically a transposition of the Trojan War into 21st century context. The characters are reincarnated mythical heroes of the Trojan War. The thesis contains a section dedicated to ancient Greek myths in general. The main goal of the thesis is to encapsulate all similarities, differences and elements received from the ancient Greek originals. The author accentuates the need for glossaries added into works with ancient Greek themes, since a reader who is not familiar with these might be rather confused by their adaptation in a completely different storyline. To achieve the abovementioned goal, the thesis provides literary-scientific context, definitions of key concepts, analysis of the narrator, composition, time space etc. Chapters containing transcribed interviews with book influencers provide readers' reception of the Starcrossed series on Czech literary scene and abroad. The author has performed analysis of the Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini via comparing the series to, above all, Homer's Iliad. These works are further supplemented by literature on ancient Greek mythology and literary...
The Progress of Nursing in the 21st Century from a Patient's Perspective
ČERNÁ, Barbora
Intoduction: Nursing is a human-oriented scientific discipline. Due to various world events, pivotal changes have occurred in this field. These changes have led to improvement in nursing care that is being provided in health facilities today. The Aim of the Thesis: The aim of the thesis was to determine changes to the field of nursing through the eyes of care recipients (i.e. patients) that happened during the 21st century. Furthermore, the goal was also to identify factors that influenced these changes and evaluate nursing care through the eyes of patients. Methodology: The thesis was carried out by means of a qualitative research survey in the form of semi-structured interviews with patients. The selection criteria for choosing an informant were residence in the South Bohemian Region and 18 years of age (or older). These informants were chosen by snowball sampling. The research survey included 20 informants. The interviews were recorded on an answering machine, literally transcribed and consequently analysed. Results: The thesis identified a total of 8 categories and 23 subcategories. The category of Scientific and Technological Progress was recognized as the central category. It is the driving force for most changes, including changes in education. The patients thought that the biggest change was modern equipment, new aids and devices in health facilities. They also mentioned innovations in the education of nurses and they agreed with the changes. The patients rated nursing care as a highly professional, expert and demanding field. They understood that more and more demands were being placed on the nurses. Moreover, the patients described the profession as prestigious, but also said that the public should be more informed about it. Conclusion: It is certain that nursing care will be influenced by further advances and innovations because science and technology cannot be stopped. In this context, the demands on nursing personnel will increase and the patients will be more demanding as well. Therefore, it is necessary to continue working on nursing care. However, it has to be taken into account how these changes and developments are perceived by the patients.
Bedřich Vašek and the "Christian Sociology" in the Context of the Development of the Church's Social Teaching in the First Half of the 20th Century. Implications for the 21st Century
M. Demartini, Lenka ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Štica, Petr (referee) ; Halama, Jindřich (referee)
The dissertation seeks an answer to the question of the content of the somewhat paradoxical phrase "Christian sociology", specifically the content of Christian sociology as conceived by the Moravian scholar of the first half of the 20th century Bedřich Vašek (1882-1959). At the same time, however, as a result of the insights brought by the research itself, the original thesis was supplemented by the question of the current state of this specific rejuvenating field. The idea of Christian sociology remained virtually dormant from the 1950s until the later 1970s. The revival of the field can be seen as an apparent response to both the methodological changes of the Second Vatican Council and the advent of postmodern society. The research has provided a wealth of stimuli for exploring the relationship between the historical phenomenon of Christian sociology and contemporary notions of the Christian or Catholic perspective in sociology and, more broadly, the relationship between the social doctrine of the Church, theology and sociology in international and domestic settings. Through a specifically chosen methodological approach, which combines the study of authentic papal documents from the first half of the 20th century, the study of archival materials related to the person of Bedřich Vašek, the...
