Grimdark - a study of appearance and application of a new subgenre in modern fiction
VITEK, Michal
The theme of the thesis will be grimdark, grasped as a new subgenre of fiction, mainly associated with the Warhammer 40 000 universe. The thesis will focus primarily on analyzing the question of the possibilities of meaningfully defining this subgenre, tracing the ways in which these definitions are applied towards the Warhammer 40 000 universe, and the development of features that contribute to the definition of the subgenre in the timelines of fictional worlds. With a reflection on the media in which they are presented. This issue of sub-genre definition will be set within the framework of standard aesthetic categories and narratology. Furthermore, the thesis will address the occurrence of the given subgenre features in other selected universes. Both in literary, audio, film or videogame format, with an attempt to differentiate the subgenre delineation of grimdark from other subgenres and to analyze the possibility of adding fictions not yet labeled with this term under the wing of grimdark.

This heuristically oriented study is conceived as replication of a research conducted by Brian Sutton-Smith, who, together with a team of co-workers, examined children's folkstories from different aspects and published his theoretical basis together with a collection of stories as "The Folkstories of Children" in 1981. The empirical material of this thesis consists of a collection of 159 fictional stories. These stories were sorted by genre using an explicit controllable method. Due to a different analysis method, which Sutton-Smith did not deal with in his work, this thesis defines and create your own seven classes of genres: right fantasy stories, false fantasy stories, adventure story, descriptive story, worldly stories, wish-fulfilling stories and descriptive stories. . The results of the categorization folkstories were subject to developmental inquiry and answers were sought as to whether genres prove a developmental gradient and gender differences. At the same time, personal orientation tendencies were examined, that is inclinations to a certain genre in individual children. The analysis indicates an age gradient in the use...

Lukashyk, Yauheniya ; Dovalil, Vít (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
Yauheniya Lukashyk On the usage of perfect and preterit in the dialogical texts interview and talk-show Abstract This thesis deals with a question of the competing grammatical forms, namely whether the German preterit and perfect tenses are interchangeable in spoken texts. German interviews and talk-shows were used as a source for this study. The first part is theoretical and gives an outline of the most important views of the linguists, confronted with the German grammar books. It also provides the definitions of the key features of the interview and talk show. Based on these grounds, a thesis of this work is defined, the validity of which is tested in the second part. The second part is therefore practical and concentrates on the individual examples of the tenses in German interviews and talk shows. The sections chosen by listening include verbs both in preterit and perfect forms relevant for this thesis, which means that they deviate from the rules described in the first part. These sections have been analyzed. The thesis ends with a conclusion, where the answer is given, whether these two tenses are interchangeable or not, and whether the exchange has an impact on the meaning of the utterance.
