Zavřelová, Barbora ; Dvořáková, Markéta (advisor) ; Županič, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis Celts and their influence on modern European cultures engages in Celtic nations, describes their history and presents remainders of Celtic culture in modern cultures. The thesis is focused on the influence of the Celts on the French region of Brittany and the Czech Republic. It mainly describes the heritage of the Celtic culture in the contemporary society in the form of Druidism, feasts, perception of nature and other traditions. It aims to create a complex image of the Celtic civilization. The second objective of the thesis is to confirm or refute the original connection of the modern Celtic cultural elements on a historical culture of the Celts. It achieves these aims on the basis of analysis, synthesis and subsequent comparison of obtained information about historical and contemporary Celts. The diploma thesis comes to the conclusion that all studied cultural elements have a real historical basis, but most of them, in their modern form, are created artificially. Nevertheless this fact does not detract from the importance of the cultural heritage of the Celts. Kocová, Markéta ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (referee) ; Hnilicová, Helena (referee)
Analysis of morbidity in Czechia investigating health care provision and take-up in relation to diabetes mellitus Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a life-threatening disease which presents as hyperglycaemia or raised blood glucose. Late detection or a failure to follow treatment guidelines may lead to complications that significantly impact on the sufferer's daily life and require expensive medical treatment. The growing prevalence of this disease, which no longer only affects developed countries, therefore presents enormous risks to health care systems and society as a whole. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the geodemographic characteristics of the current diabetic population in Czechia. Particular attention will be paid to the age of diabetes sufferers, since in Czechia data on this is lacking. In pursuit of this aim the thesis makes use of anonymised data from the largest Czech health insurance company (Czech General Health Insurance). The first part of the thesis looks at diabetes mellitus as a medical condition, concentrating primarily on the basic types of the disease but also considering the potential health complications this disease causes. The theoretical part will discuss the main risk factors of developing the disease, such as genetic predisposition, age, obesity and other potential factors...
Primary School Pupil Numbers and Demographic Change in Czech Municipalities
Kusovská, Marie ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kučerová, Silvie Rita (referee) ; Fiala, Tomáš (referee)
Primary School Pupil Numbers and Demographic Change in Czech Municipalities Abstract Following a sharp fall in fertility to its historical minimum after 1990, the population of Czechia began to increase again gradually. Consequently birth cohorts of varying size are emerging and these then enter the education system. Moreover suburbanisation has led to a change in population distribution. These factors have mean that in some areas primary school capacity does not reflect the numbers of primary school age children, with some schools having insufficient places and others suffering from a lack of pupils. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse regional demographic change in Czechia after 1990, including changes in the spatial pattern of compulsory school age children (6-14 years). The information obtained is set against the changes in the spatial patterns of primary school pupils and maximum primary school capacity. The whole analysis is undertaken within the catchment regions for combined primary schools (schools that provide nine years of primary and middle school education), which were created on the basis of the shortest road distance from the district to the nearest combined primary school. Webb's graphs were used along with spatial autocorrelation since these are appropriate methods for conducting...
Czech Allergology and Clinical Immunology: Utilization and Provision in Space
Blechová, Lucie ; Paulus, Michal (advisor) ; Votápková, Jana (referee)
The present thesis focuses on Czech allergology and clinical immunology by studying this branch of health care in a geographic variation framework while using methods of spatial econometrics. This has been the first work with such focus. District-level data on care provision and utilization in 2012 are used. It is found that there exist geographical differences between provision and utilization and that the geographical distribution of allergists and clinical immunologists does not correspond to population's needs. Care utilization is modeled using a spatial autoregressive model specification. Based on this model, it is concluded that a shortage of physicians in the majority of districts actually limits care utilization. Also based on the utilization model, there is a discussion about the potential need for policy coordination. Care provision cannot be modeled using explanatory variables that are available, therefore, future data collection is necessary. However, it was found that variables influencing the need for care by patients do not influence care provision per physician. Comparison of the Role of Informal Caregivers in the System of Long-term Care in the Czech Republic and Slovakia
Svobodová, Lucie Magdalena ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Geissler, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis looks into informal long-term care in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Providing informal care can be hard and often has negative impacts on informal caregivers, which can even lead to burnout syndrome. But usually informal caregivers do not have a different choice because of unavailable formal care or the pressure of generation solidarity. The author describes long-term care in Czechoslovakia before 1989 in order to confirm or refute the validity of path dependence theory; she uses Sigrid Leitner's typology. Then she pinpoints the role of informal caregivers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and afterwards she draws a comparison between them. The comparative analysis is based on given criteria, it especially focuses on informal caregivers' rights and obligations. Lastly, the author tries to apply discovered similarities and differences between the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the path dependence theory and verify its validity.
