The study of occurrence, collection and disposal of hazardous waste
Wolf, Adam ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee)
This bachelor thesis provides an overview about the hazardous waste. At the beginning there will be discussed the legislative measures related to hazardous waste management and international cooperation. Following three chapters are dedicated to these hazardous wastes: asbestos waste, sludge from wastewater treatment and ashes from incineration waste. Today forbidden material asbestos occurs in insulation of the old public and industrial buildings. It is essential to prevent release of asbestos fibres. Further currently was proposed several promising processes for treatment of sewage sludge and ashes from incineration waste that management in the Czech Republic overlooks. Presented methods emphasize degradation of hazardous properties from the concerned waste. Thesis shows current occurrence of waste in environment. Main objective is assessment of potential risks for human health or environmental components, consequent from hazardous waste and draw implications for the most effective treatment. A conclusion of literature research summarized advice for treatment of these waste. Key words: hazardous waste, hazardous properties, asbestos containing waste, sludge from wastewater treatment, sewage sludge, waste incineration, bottom and fly ash, vitrification, heavy metals.
Study the treatment of medical waste in CR and EU
Pilnáček, Vojtěch ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee)
Domain of medical waste includes a few sub domains. Firstly it is legislation of handling with medical waste, which is nowadays in European Union fractionalized in different laws. Then it is sub domain of technical solutions of handling with medical waste. This sub domain comprises of many options as preventing of generation, recycling, conversion and disposal of medical waste. Last domain is data about production and handling with medical waste. Area of collected data is limited on member states of European Union. The data are unfortunately difficult to access and relatively incomplete and unreliable. The thesis contains accessible information in these sub domains. Conclusions of the thesis are assessment and a few recommendations for amelioration of present state in the area.
Approaches to the management of waste from health care facilities in Czech Republic and Kazakhstan
Kaireshev, Ruslan ; Zimová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Benešová, Libuše (referee)
Waste from healthcare facilities or similar facilities includes components of various physical, chemical and biological character that require special approaches during the handling, specifically with regard to possible risks to human health and the environment. Nowadays a challenge for waste management system becomes waste produced in healthcare facilities and contributes too many reasons, such as population growth and rising life expectancy. The rate of waste production from healthcare facilities depends on the facility type, its specialty, inpatient capacity, level of amenities and location. Waste from healthcare facilities need to be sorted and removed to avoid endangering the health of patients, healthcare workers and the environment. The aim of the study was to describe and compare the waste management systems in healthcare facilities between Czech Republic and Kazakhstan. Within the work was performed statistical analysis of the healthcare waste generation in the selected region of Kazakhstan. The results show that the only factor that affects the rate of waste generation is inpatient capacity of healthcare facility. It was also found that the production of healthcare waste differs significantly between ambulatory and stationary care facilities. The research results show that public...
Distribution of heavy metals in small urban streams
Hnaťuková, Petra ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Komínková, Dana (referee) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee)
Conclusion Combined sewer system significantly deteriorates water and sediment quality in urban streams studied. lmportant waste water producers of several industries are localized around Průmyslová streetin the catchmentarea of Botič and in Vysočany district in the catchment area of Rokýka. Therefore, Botič is affected mainly by Cu, Ni, Pb a Zn and Rokytka by Cd, Cu, Ni a Pb through the dischargeof CSOs in caseof rain and stormwater. Metal concentrations as well as evaluated environmental risk show significant increase due to discharge of CSOs in the longitudinal profile of streams affected by, urban drainage. Changes in distribution of Cu anď Zn to easílyavailable f|actionsrr.ereobservedin sedimentsof Botíč,which receives dischargefrom 33 CSOs. For copper it u'as proportionalincreaseof oxidizable fraction, for zink proportional increaseof exchangeble/carbonatefraction.The observedmobility order of the sir trace metals studied according to mobility factor was Cď > Zn > Ni > Cu > Pb > Cr in sedimentsof Botičand Rokytka and Cd > Zn> Ni > Pb > Cu > Cr in sedimentsof Kunratický Stream. The analysis of heary metals loadings.geochemicaldistributionand other physicochemical parametershas enabled to identify specific areas of metal contamination. However, no statistically significant correlations between...
Characteristics of Municipal Solid Waste
Dvořáková, Markéta ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee) ; Innemanová, Petra (referee)
Objective knowledge about quantity, composition and physicochemical characteristics of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the Czech Republic will form the basis for decision- making when considering processing facilities or regional waste management systems. As the country continues to streamline its legislation to the European Union's solid waste mandates, the results of these studies were employed by the Czech Ministry of Environment to optimise the national waste management strategy. This doctoral thesis focuses on the composition of MSW, primarily the mixed MSW from three types of households in the Czech Republic (urban, mixed and rural) differentiated by their heating methods and possibility of waste disposal. The respective experimental work and data-collection took place in years 2008 and 2009. Methodology used in the analyses is based on the sieve analysis of mixed MSW within predetermined grain size fraction and on the final manual sorting of the waste by material categories. The physicochemical characteristics were measured according to the standard analysis methods. The composition of mixed MSW in urban and mixed households are similar. Some of the biggest differences were found in the quantities of certain subsample categories, especially fine fraction (matter smaller than 8 mm), between...

Study the incidence, management and economy diapers in social institutions
Ševčíková, Lucie ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Zimová, Magdalena (referee)
Composition of municipal waste is changing in last period because of demographical changes. These changes cause increased volume of waste of rare appearance or new waste type. One example are diapers. Majority of social insitutions use diapers however its disposal is unclear.Goal of this thesis is to monitor consumption and disposal of diapers at social institutions (retirement homes, geriatry). The thesis will also evaluate cost of diapers purchase and disposal. The conclusion is devoted to the production of waste in Prague, which is assigned according to Waste Cataloguenumber 18 01 03. Under this number is also used fallsincontinence. The paper tries to highlight the economic aspects of purchasing and production of incontinent aids used in hospitals, nursing homes and long-term patients.
Environmental and health impacts of treatment waste containing asbestos
Macháčková, Eva ; Svoboda, Luboš (referee) ; Zimová, Magdalena (advisor)
Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral, for its outstanding qualities have been widely used in all sectors, but most in the construction industry. Only later revealed that asbestos also has negative effects on the health of people. Followed the first restrictions in European countries and then a complete ban on the import, manufacture and use of asbestos. In the CR was issued first limitation on asbestos as late as 1984. Asbestos causes three main diseases, asbestosis, lung cancer and mezotheliom. Since the nineties last century, there is a gradual removal of asbestos and its substitution by other materials. This is accompanied by the emergence of asbestos waste. In the works is summarize the production of waste in the CR, is deal with understanding the proper procedure for remediation of asbestos with introducing their absences and the method waste removal. In the diseases caused by asbestos is the data statistically evaluated and graphically worked their outline. At present frequently remove asbestos materials from buildings and facilities, causing impacts on the environment. The Czech Republic lacks regulation that would govern the procedure for demolition of buildings containing asbestos materials. Earlier use of asbestos is now being reflected in increased number of illnesses caused...
