Faith, people and money. Fulnek monastery of Augustinian-canons and the lords between the Middle ages and the early modern period
Macháčová, Zuzana ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Brčák, Marek (referee)
This thesis is devoted to the canonry of the Augustinian canons in Fulnek and its relations with the Fulnek nobility in the changing times. The emphasis is laid on the analysis and critical evaluation of the development of the encounters and struggles of the monastery with the hierarchy over time in it's connection to the confessional affiliations of the individual actors. The time frame of the thesis is defined by the period immediately preceding the foundation of the monastery, i.e. the foundation of the canonry by the Lords of Kravaře and the related processes in the 1480s on the one hand and the culmination of religious disputes in the country in 1620 with the Battle of White Mountain on the other. It covers both the medieval and early modern eras. The local microhistory is set in the broader context of the general ecclesiastical and political history of the Czech lands.

Symbolic notation in selected 16th century arithmetic books from Czech environment: an example of George Goerl
Fantová, Anna ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Kvasz, Ladislav (referee)
A primary objective of this bachelor thesis is to characterize mathematical symbolism (the use of substitute signs of usually fixed meaning for a description of objects and processes) in arithmetic books from the 16th century written in the Czech language with a primary focus on the foundations of arithmetic. Firstly, I categorize the period notation based on its form and purpose by analysing the historical sources. Then, I compare the symbolism described in the individual arithmetic books and connect the discovered differences in time. The analysis focuses on an arithmetic book by George Goerl from approximately the second third of the monitored period. Futhermore, I elaborate on an earlier arithmetic book by Andreas Klatovský and a different one by Benes Optát. In general, I arrange the arithmetic books chronologically. Another aim of this paper is to evaluate the above-mentioned arithmetic books from a formal point of view. Therefore, I touch on the contents of each of them, ordering, and literary and pictorial paratexts. I am also interested in particular exercises and examples as sources of knowledge of the everydayness in the age of the authors. I evaluate the suitability of their way of notation and problem solving in some exercises in comparison with today's approach. Throughout the whole...
Piarists and Lipník (1634-1884) - religious clerics and their influence on the town with a focus on educational activities
Mozolová, Michaela ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Foltýn, Dušan (referee)
The diploma thesis Piarists and Lipník (1634-1884) - religious clerics and their influence on the city deals with the order of Piarists from their arrival in Lipník in 1634 until their departure in 1884. The introductory part presents the city of Lipník nad Bečvou, to which the order of Piarists was called . Many historical events took place in Lipník nad Bečvou, which ultimately led to the important step of calling the order of Piarists. In the next part, the diploma thesis discusses the Piarist order, its beginnings, structure and important personalities, describes the college, the church and the novitiate, which was part of the monastery house. I also support the information with foundation documents or other sources. I tried to outline how we remember Piarists nowadays. The thesis also includes a comparison of photos of the church and the dormitory from the 20th and 21st centuries. We have also preserved accounts and protocols for the rebuilding of the church, everything is part of my work. In the diploma thesis, you will also find a description of the events held in the last 20 years, which have a connection to the past of the order. I dedicate the second half of the work to Piarist education. I substantiate this, among other things, with the memories of two students of J. G. Mendel and F....
Ancient Mythology in the Trilogy Starcrossed of Josephina Angelini
Roudná, Karolína ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
This Bachelor thesis focuses on analysis of Ancient Mythology in the Starcrossed Trilogy of Josephina Angelini. The inspiration by ancient Greek mythology is evident throughout the series, as it's practically a transposition of the Trojan War into 21st century context. The characters are reincarnated mythical heroes of the Trojan War. The thesis contains a section dedicated to ancient Greek myths in general. The main goal of the thesis is to encapsulate all similarities, differences and elements received from the ancient Greek originals. The author accentuates the need for glossaries added into works with ancient Greek themes, since a reader who is not familiar with these might be rather confused by their adaptation in a completely different storyline. To achieve the abovementioned goal, the thesis provides literary-scientific context, definitions of key concepts, analysis of the narrator, composition, time space etc. Chapters containing transcribed interviews with book influencers provide readers' reception of the Starcrossed series on Czech literary scene and abroad. The author has performed analysis of the Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini via comparing the series to, above all, Homer's Iliad. These works are further supplemented by literature on ancient Greek mythology and literary...

The internal relations in the tribe, influenced by the Roman luxurious gifts and financial support of the Cherusci aristocrats, are researched. The last part deals with the retinue of chieftains, with the Cherusci presence in the auxiliaries of the Roman army, with the Germanic personal guard of the emperors of the Julio-Claudian dynasty (the so-called Germani corporis custodes), and with the Roman impact on the Germanic warfare.
