"All the Saints, Pray for Us." Bohemian Patrons in the Prints of the Prague Archdiocese from the mid-16th to 17th Centuries

(in English): The submitted diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the textual image of the Czech provincial patrons (Adalbert, Amabilia, Agnes, Cyril and Methodius, Five Saint Brothers, Günter, Hedwig, Hroznata, Ivan, Mlada, John of Nepomuk, Norbert, Procopius, Sigmund, Wenceslas, Vitus, Vojslava and Zdislava) based on hagiographic prints published in the Prague diocese. The beginning of the studied period (i.e. the period in which the texts were published) is defined as the reoccupation of the Prague archiepiscopal see by Anton Brus in 1563 and the associated beginnings of the restoration of the position of the Catholic Church. The upper time limit is then the mid-1650s, when the first phase of the recatholization gradually ceased and the thematic literary production increased in quantity. The thesis examines the contemporary formation of holiness and its types, comments on their individual aspects, compares them with each other, and attempts to provide a deeper understanding of the religious life and patriotism of early modern Bohemia. The present study uses individual methodological approaches and moves between history and history of literature. "To become useful to church and state ". Joseph II 's General Seminaries on the example of the Seminary in Hradisko u Olomouce

This master's thesis deals with the phenomenon of general seminars and the reform of theological studies carried out by Josef II in the Habsburg Monarchy between 1783 and 1790, with a particular focus on the seminar in Hradisko u Olomouce. The thesis will be divided into three main chapters. The first chapter provides a more general overview of the overall system of seminars, the most important debates on their establishment, and to some extent (as far as sources and existing historiography allow) a comparison of conditions in various seminars in the monarchy. The second chapter then focuses on the Olomouc seminar itself and partially fills in the more general structure outlined in the first chapter with specific data from the Moravian-Silesian province. An important part is also the presentation of specific teaching materials used in the seminar. The third chapter concentrates on the students (primarily using the example of boarders of the Olomouc seminar). Their daily schedule will be introduced, along with the overall ideal of proper spiritual conduct, which state authorities followed when opening the seminar. Missionary Jan Kořiska and the end of recatholization in Moravia

This bachelor's thesis deals with the life of a priest and missionary Jan Kořiska (1730 - 1790?), the most diligent performer of recatholization in the last generation of Moravian missionaries. The thesis is the first attempt at a complex view of this priest's life. It proceeds both from ecclesiastical and profane archive sources, mostly never used previously. These are mainly the protocols of Olomouc Episcopal Consistory, files of Brno Gubernium and Tribunal concerning secret non-Catholics in Moravia and (partially published) documents from the investigation of Wallachian rebellion in 1777. The aim of this thesis is to show the mutual communication between surviving baroque and emerging enlightenment mentalities and to complete the series of events which lead to the issue of the Patent of Toleration.

Changes and growth of a small town in time of normalization - the example of Benešov u Prahy

The thesis deals with the transformation of Benešov u Prahy from a backward town with nine thousand inhabitants to the centre of Podblanicko area with almost twice as many residents. The change did not come easily. The inhabitants and offices dealt with many problems ranging from inadequate transport and business networks to insufficient capacity in school facilities. Within twenty years (1970s and 1980s), Benešov underwent an immense transformation, which is evident at first sight. Prefabricated housing estates were built on the outskirts of the town and in densely built-up areas that had been redeveloped for building purposes. Not even the monuments escaped this remediation. The present-day appearance of Benešov is largely a reflection of fifteen to twenty years of construction activities in the monitored period. How has Benešov changed over the 20 years of the reporting period? What kind of transformation have all parts of the town undergone (center, peripherals)? Was it possible to offer sufficient capacity (housing, work) to new arrivals and old residents? How did Benešov cope in terms of services (education, transport, apartments, business network) with almost twice the number of inhabitants? The Thought-world of utraquist priest Václav Rosa

Václav Rosa was utraquist priest, who got his ordination in 1516. Since that time he had replaced several parishes in the Bohemia. He passed away in 1560. Besides casual experiences of lower clergy his notes contain the view into the contemporarythinkingand the perceptionof the world. This thesis follows up my bachelor thesis, which is called Václav Rosa's writings as source for cognitionof religious situationinthe first half of the 16thcentury. This master thesis is focused on Rosa's library and its content, his dreams and his opinions are compared with other utraquist authors, who are Šimon of Slaný, Jan Bechyňka, Vaněk Valečovský, Bohuslav Bílejovský, Jan Laetus and the Priest of Černovice. The aim of this thesis is to detail Rosa's personality and places him in the picture frame of utraquist clergy.

The second life of church anti-Nazi resistance in the catholic-oriented press of the third Czechoslovak republic

This bachelor thesis analyses the second life of the church anti-Nazi resistance, including its persecution as reflected in the selected Catholic-oriented press of the third Czechoslovak republic, i.e. in the years 1945-1948, especially in the magazines Katolík and Obzory. The first two chapters are devoted to the contemporary context and the press under study, and the most comprehensive chapter gives an overview of the second life of the church resistance in six subchapters, according to the object of commemoration. The thesis draws on selected contemporary national and regional press and secondary literature on church resistance and persecution during the Second World War and on the third Czechoslovak republic. On the basis of a thorough analysis of contemporary texts, the aim of this thesis is to describe the immediate second life of the church resistance with regard to its political use.

Roman Senate and Army. The Crisis of the Roman Empire in 235-238.

This thesis explores the period of crisis that the Roman Empire entered after the death of Alexander Severus, as described by the British historian and writer Harry Sidebottom in his three-part novel The Throne of Caesars: Iron and Rust, Steel and Blood, Fire and Sword. The work focuses primarily on the role of the army in the chaos of the third century AD. It contains questions of philosophy (Epicureans, Stoics, Pythagoreans), religion (traditional Roman and indigenous cults and superstitions), literature (knowledge of literature among intellectuals versus ordinary soldiers as obedient machines), the question of the feeling of superiority of the Romans compared to the defeated barbarians from the north, patriotism, careerism, egoism, self-sacrifice, friendship, propaganda, etc. Propaganda and manipulation of public opinion, so important for every single emperor, is then discussed in more detail in my work. The lives and evaluation of the significance of the works of those ancient authors (namely Héródiános, Aurelius Victor, Zósimos, Ammianus Marcellinus) are briefly described at the beginning of the work, from which important information on the topic can be obtained.
