Aerosol light extinction measurements

This bachelor thesis deals with the basic processing of measured light extinction data, which was measured at seven wavelengths using the aethalometer (AE-31, Magee). Since 2012, the device has been located at the Košetice meteorological station in the Czech Republic, where the measurement has been ongoing and is currently continuing. The measured data from 2013 to 2015 were processed to provide a basis for further research in meteorology and climatology. Basic parameters such as extinction coefficient and other derived characteristics (Angstroem absorption coefficient, Delta-C) are calculated. From the final data the total average values and time dependencies are determined as daily, weekly and yearly cycles. All dependencies are graphically visualized and commented on. During the data processing, it was also found that during period 2013 - 2015 there was a decrease in the average of the concentration of black carbon and that it was the highest in the winter months. New low-cost polutant sensor evaluation

This bachelor thesis deals with the introduction and subsequent comparison of low-cost sensors measuring air pollutants, which were used in the Citi-sense project in Ostrava. The results of the measurements carried out in the period from 1st June 2015 to 7th September 2015, are compared with data measured by the Czech hydrometeorological Institute during the same period of time. The data are designed to provide the basis for further research into low-cost devices monitoring air pollution. Basic parameters such as average values, correlation coefficient, slope of linear regression, weekly and daily cycle are calculated. The results are graphically illustrated and commented. The thesis also discusses the concordance of individual concentrations and use of these new sensors in air quality monitoring in the future. Pollen charakterisation in size segregated aerosol

This bachelor thesis, in literature review, deals with bioaerosol issue, describes meaning of pollen, ways of pollen spreading and its influence on human health, summarize methods of pollen sampling from the air and common ways of pollen grains identification. In the experimental part, the use of the first stage of a High Volumetric Cascade Impactor (Hi-Vol) BGI-900 for bioaerosol sampling and subsequent SEM analysis was proved. Method of pollen separation from the impaction substrate, polyurethane foam, into homogeneous deposit on Nylon filter was optimized. Representative portion of the deposit was analyzed by SEM. There were taken 485 SEM pictures from 12 samples in 3 localities in the ČR. Pollen grains were identified in 295 SEM and determined into 9 genus and 4 families and grain deformities were quantified to be 24, 18, 50% for Prague, Brezno and Láz localities. Number of pollen increased with total aerosol mass in Prague locality only. Thre aleo identified insect secrction products borochomomes in the samples. Microclimate in classrooms and lecture halls throughout the year and its impact on health and focus of students

There is a growing evidence that thermal comfort, light levels and carbon dioxide concentration can have significant impact on alertness and performance. We have documented microclimate (temperature, relative humidity, light intensity level and CO2 concentration) in 7 different lecture rooms throughout the year. We have not measured any extreme conditions but on significant amount of lectures the microclimate conditions were not optimal. Out of 68 measured lectures 2 had median temperature below 19 řC and 13 lectures over 24 řC, i.e. out of the recommended values. On the cold lectures, students were observed to wear jackets and on the hot ones students were frequently opening windows which also suggest that the thermal conditions were suboptimal.. CO2 concentrations were suboptimal mostly in winter, when 26 out of 39 lectures had median CO2 levels above 1000 ppm which is, according to ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers), an indicator for inadequate ventilation. Median CO2 level for all lectures from both semesters was 1060 ppm. Even though window opening effectively lowers CO2 concentrations, we found it to be as mostly a reactive behavior. Characterization of coarse atmospheric aerol in urban environment

(EN) This Diploma Thesis is concerned with statistical analysis of coarse aerosol at the area of the capital city Prague with focus on its time and space variability. The data covers time period from year 2005 up to year 2010 included. The concentrations of coarse aerosol were originally calculated from recorded values of PM10 a PM2,5. The assessment used in this thesis is based on concentrations of coarse aerosol recorded on four pollutant stations which are localized in the capital city. Three out of four those air pollution monitoring stations are characterized as traffic stations kind of purse, where we can assume the traffic's impact over the coarse aerosol concentration. The last station is distinguished to be background to report the data of region less loaded by pollution. The analysis is executed within particular parameters supposing that main source of coarse aerosol is traffic in urban environment. For time period examination variability the year, season, week and day running was carried out. The spatial variability was researched by the air pollution monitoring stations localization. The variability in the AA con- centrations is significant; the long-term measurements of AA, over the period at least several years, and the differentiation according to the season of the year are thus necessary. The clearly expressed annual cycle of AA concentrations is mainly influenced by two phenomena. MODEL OPTIMIZING OF THE BIOGAS PLANT OPERATION

Biogas plants are installations for converting of biomass to produce biogas, which is a valuable energy source if a proper management of an anaerobic process is kept. In the Czech Republic are mainly agricultural biogas plant. This work is focused on evaluation of data obtained from a specific biogas plant, which is located in the town Úpice. This plant processes biodegradable waste. The aim of this study was to determine which waste processed are beneficial for the production of biogas. The Data were analyzed by statistical program R. The method used was cluster analysis. For comparsion of clusters was used ANOVA method (analysis of variance). The results of data analysis showed a positive effect on the production of biogas by waste from industrial processing of potatoes, grass and corn silage, rumen contents and dairy waste. Aerosol light scattering measurements

This thesis' objective is basic data processing of light scattering, which was measured using three-wavelength Integrating Nephelometer. Measurements were carried out at observatory in Košetice, where the nephelometer has been placed since mid-2012. The data collection was carried out during two calendar years (2013 and 2014) and the measurement still continues there. Data is processed in a manner to be suitable for using in future research in the field of meteorology and climatology. Basic parameters such as Angsroem exponent, average value, median and annual and daily cycles are calculated. All dependencies and cycles are graphically represented and commented. Besides other things, it was found out during the data processing that e.g. average coefficient of light scattering was very similar in both years or that the scattering coefficient was higher in winter months. Supervisor's e-mail address: Jaroslava.Kalvova@mff.cuni.cz Abstract: This thesis enquires into the spatial variability of precipitation annual cycles and its representation by regional climate models. Goal is to find suitable metrics that could describe spatial character of the precipitation field and con- sequently evaluate model results. For complete understanding the issue, there is an introduction to modeling with regional climate models and also parameters of the precipitation in the Czech Republic. The main part of the thesis is an application of different methods of descripiton on the results of the regional cli- mate models (including the Czech model ALADIN) and CRU data. Results of the models are compared to observed data transferred into the regular grid. Each method is applied on the model results and assessed with regard to advantages and disadvantages. The metrics that were found useful are recommended for the further evaluation of the spatial variability of precipitation annual cycles. Atmospheric greenhouse gases - new type of measurements in the Czech Republic

The current condition, development and functioning of ecosystems is greatly influenced by the ongoing global change, which is probably caused by the increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere originating from human activity. Ecosystems are able to some extent cope with the consequences of global change on their own, and therefore ensure their future preservation. To understand the forces driving global change, we need detailed quality data from long-term observation. Quantification of substance and energy flows in different ecosystems and ecosystem valuation ability to bind air carbon allows us to model their development, both in current conditions and under conditions of global change. This thesis presents the current research methods of atmospheric boundary layer flows, while highlighting their advantages and pointing out their drawbacks. It also enables a better understanding of new methods of observation through the tall towers. The thesis presents some of the existing tall towers and describes their ways and methods of measurement. A part of the thesis is devoted to a tall tower which is planned to be built in the Czech Republic between municipalities Košetice and Křešín u Pacova.
