Knejflová, Vendula ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Supa, Markéta (referee)
The thesis Media habits of children aged 5-6 examines the media awareness of 5 and 6 years old children, their media habits and preferences. It deals with the attitudes of parents and educators towards the media and their role in education, and seeks an answer the question of whether the popularity and use of electronic visual media (television, computer, mobile/tablet) has an impact on some areas of a child's psychomotor development. The work is inspired by a similar research conducted in 2010 by Ondřej Luštinec. The aim is to answer what is the media awareness of children, what are their media preferences and what attitudes are taken by parents and pedagogical staff towards the media in education. Several hypotheses were established, e.g. that children with worse results in the monitored areas will more often choose visual electronic media as their favorite and printed media with radio as unpopular, that children with worse results will spend more time with visual electronic media and that children will spend more time with them than in 2010. The current research was carried out in June 2022 and in January 2023 in kindergartens in Kyselka, Velvary, Čakovice and in Prague - Opletalova street. Qualitative methods (interviews and experiments with children) and quantitative methods (questionnaires...

Social media algorithms in Czech media literacy
Kořenář, Patrik ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Supa, Markéta (referee)
Transition from mass media to new media is closely tied to a number of societal and technological changes. Global social media platforms are dominating both consumption and production of media content and doing so they employ series of complex technologies, e.g. algorithms. Delegation of labour from humans to these complex systems (in recent years operating on basis of machine learning) has serious influence on many aspects of individual life and processes inside a society itself. In this work we analyse function and influence of social media algorithms and we try to find out if and to what extend is this information transfered into media literacy of high school students in Czech republic. We come to a worrying conclusion that despite its massive influence in contemporary media landscape, the topic of social media algorithms in Czech media literacy and media education is basically absent.

Media Image of Compulsory High School Diploma in Mathematics in Chosen Media
Kalášková, Jana ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Odstrčilová, Klára (referee)
The compulsory mathematics matriculation is a long-standing topic of discussion among the professional and lay population. The amendment to the Education Act, mandating compulsory mathematics graduation for all secondary school students, was first introduced by former Education Minister Marcel Chládek. For the first time, the matriculation exam was to be compulsory for students taking their matriculation exam in the 2020/2021 school year. Now students can choose between a foreign language and mathematics. The topic of this thesis is the issue of the compulsory mathematics matriculation exam and its media portrayal, in my case in the news coverage of Nova television and Czech Television, where I will examine the coverage of the topic in the main evening news of both media. The aim of my thesis is to find out how the examined media portrayed the issue in the period from June 2013 to June 2020, how many reports were devoted to the topic, how long they were, which people are associated with the topic and which parties expressed their views on the topic.
