Transition events in trickle bed reactor under conditions of steady state and pulse regime has been studied experimentally in pilot plant trickle bed reactor at elevated pressures 2 and 5bar and temperatures 20 and 50oC. From hydrodynamic dependencies of pressure drops on gas and liquid velocities the transients lines between film and pulse regime have been determined. The effects of various variables flow rates, temperature, pressure, length of period and spilt have been verified with respect to pressure drop and pressure drop profile along trickle bed reactor operated in pulse regime.

The conductive method has been modified for hydrodynamic study in trickle bed reactor. Method for RTD measurements in liquid phase (steady state flow) has been developed and tested in glass laboratory scale TBR. The method for evaluation of experimental data was developed and RTD and liquid hold up calculated. The agreement between experiment and calculated results is good.

Characteristics of Two-Phase Gas-Liquid Pulsing Flow in Trickle Bed
Stavárek, Petr ; Vychodilová, Hana ; Staněk, Vladimír ; Jiřičný, Vladimír
Results of the experimental study of two-phase co-current flow in trickle bedare presented.. Observed parameters were material of the bed, physical and chemical properties of liquid phase, flow rates and split value under conditions of pulsing inlet velocity of liquid. Results reflect a possibility of development of an arbitrary pulsing flow of liquid under conditions of constant inlet velocities of both phases. These arbitrary pulsations of liquid flow were observed under conditions of periodic inlet velocities too.
