Job Satisfaction of English Teachers in the Czech Republic
Altınkalp, İrem ; Voňková, Hana (advisor) ; Zvírotský, Michal (referee)
Despite the burgeoning interest in foreign language learning and teaching practices, the research on English teachers' job satisfaction has remained rather scarce, particularly in the Czech context. The current diploma thesis, hence, has aimed to provide insights into the determinants of job satisfaction, with respect to English teachers working at primary and secondary schools. The thesis is categorized into two parts, a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part of the study covers the term job satisfaction. It identifies and analyzes existing research to present definitions and major theories and to provide guidance and basis for the research. Then, it expounds both international and Czech literature on job satisfaction among teachers, highlighting the need for conducting the research. The practical part displays the methodology, covering data collection tools and the sample selection. Next, the findings are presented and discussed to shed light on the issue and to recommend adjustments in the subject matter to improve and prosper English language education in the Czech Republic. KEYWORDS Job satisfaction, English teachers, Czech Republic, primary schools, secondary schools, English teachers' salary

Edukometrie - Item response theory
Voňková, Hana
Title: Measurement of Education - Item Response Theory Author: Hana Křížovská Department: Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics Supervisor: Prof. Ing. František Fabian, CSc. Supervisors' e-mail address: he has not Abstract If we want to study abilities of certain pupils or other people in a given area, we can give them a didactial test, which would consist of items testing the abilities in question. The goal is then to determine the qualities of the people (ability parameter) and the relative difficulty of the questions (parameters of the questions) on the basis of the answers. Further we estimate how would a pupil, who have passed just one part of the test (assuming we have the item parameters of the whole test), would perform in the rest of the test. This is the research area of the Item Reponse Theory (IRT). In the introductory section the reasons are given for why we should use the IRT rather than the classical test theory for evaluating didactical test results, althought it's not regulary done in our country. The dichotomous Rasch model, which is one of the main IRT models, is described in detail. First the model is derived and then its main features presented. For the case of Rasch models we also demonstrate the most used methods of estimation of the ability and difficulty parameters....
The Anchoring Vignette Method and its use for increasing the comparability of self-assessments of ICT knowledge and skills
Hrabák, Jan ; Voňková, Hana (advisor) ; Černochová, Miroslava (referee) ; Prokýšek, Miloš (referee)
This dissertation deals with the use of the Anchoring Vignette Method in educational research carried out to establish the level of information and communication technology (ICT) knowledge and skills, with the focus on Czech upper-secondary school students. The theoretical part describes curricular documents that define the ICT knowledge and skills. In the Czech Republic that means mainly the Framework Educational Programmes. Attention is also paid to the international document DigComp. The Anchoring Vignette Method with the focus on nonparametric approach of this method is described in detail too. The author also provides an overview of available Czech and foreign bibliography on ICT knowledge and skills research - including the International Computer and Information Literacy (ICILS, 2013 and 2018) - and on the use of the Anchoring Vignette Method in educational research. The empirical part includes the description of the steps taken in formulating anchoring vignettes, this being an integral part of the Anchoring Vignette Method, in accordance with the curricular documents of the Czech Republic, and the steps taken while formulating anchoring vignettes on the basis of the international document DigComp. The verification of the fulfilment of the Anchoring Vignette Method assumptions (vignette...
Non-mathematical world of mathematics textbook for 6th grade of lower secondary schools and in the area of financial literacy
Moraová, Hana ; Bendl, Stanislav (advisor) ; Hošpesová, Alena (referee) ; Voňková, Hana (referee)
The aim of the dissertation thesis is to study the non-mathematical content of textbooks of mathematics. Textbooks of mathematics are not only a pedagogical document but also a cultural artefact that is produces in a particular society with its own cultural norms. While working with a textbook of mathematics, pupils come across many images of everyday life. Yet, since the main goal of a mathematics textbook is to help pupils gain knowledge and skills in mathematics, not much attention is paid to textual (non-mathematical, cultural) content. This means that pupils almost on everyday basis visit a world that tries to awaken the illusion of being "real", of being model of reality but in fact is a model for what is perceived as normal. The question asked in the presented research is what images of everyday life pupils come across while working with Czech textbooks of mathematics and whether there are differences among textbooks by different authors in this respect. Within the frame of this research, five sets of textbooks for 6th grade of lower secondary schools and four textbooks for 9th grade (only the chapter on financial mathematics, an area closely connected to everyday life) were analysed with respect to their non-mathematical, cultural content. The method used in the research comes out of the...
