Construction of national identity in Eurovision Song Contest: case study

The diploma thesis Construction of National Identity in Eurovision Song Contest: Case Study analyses the ways and forms of shaping the Czech national identity in the Eurovision Song Contest, the largest and most watched international festival of popular music in the world. In particular, the thesis aims to identify the manifestation of identity and self-presentation of the Czech Republic from the point of view of a media institution, in the national selection, in the form of the entry itself, in postcards and video clips as well as through voting and viewer ratings. These findings were attained by the combination of three research methods, namely semi-structured interviews with media professionals, qualitative content analyses of audio- visual materials and secondary data analysis. The theoretical framework presents basic concepts of identity formation and nationalism, and provides an in-depth presentation of the Eurovision Song Contest from geopolitical and sociocultural perspectives. Furthermore, the thesis examines the function of the media in the everyday life of normalisation households and identifies the sources of images responsible for bipolarization of the outside world and their nature. It also deals with the public view on the importance of free media for the functioning of a democratic society. Last but not least, the thesis tracks the possibility of obtaining information from official, unofficial and foreign media. To be able to conduct the above mentioned analyses, the base of this thesis lie in historiography, several chapters deal with formal and informal pressure exerted on the official media sources and circumstances of foreign media broadcast on the Czechoslovak territory. This bachelor thesis Advertising within weekly publications in times of the economic crisis 2007-2011 uses quantitative content method to figure out frequency of advertisement placed by economic subjects in weekly magazines Respekt, Reflex and Týden. Time range was set from June 2007 to June 2011. The goal of this thesis is to ascertain behavior of these economic subjects before the crisis, in it's early period until the half of it. Theoretical part brings the explanation of the cause of the financial crisis, explains relations between advertisement and media, describes the evolution of chosen periodicals and introduces readers to used research method. Empirical part presents and illustrates obtained data which leads to conclusions. The appraisal of the study helped to make clear conclusions that proves the impact of financial crisis on economical subjects.
Contemporary media image of Škoda Favorit vehicle

The present thesis deals with the contemporary media image of Škoda Favorit vehicle. The study is based on the journals of that time. The theoretical part is devoted to the historical context, including economic situation and description of media functions, which changed together with political regime. Furthermore, it put us in touch with history of Škoda company, closer also with developing and selling of Škoda Favorit and with the personality of Ing. Petr Hrdlička, CSc., who was in charge of the vehicle development. The second part deals with analysis of the media articles connected to the topic. Work closer elaborates events, which are thematically important, it means the performance of the vehicle in Brno expo, the start of selling the car, the completion of car bodywork development building in Mladá Boleslav, the international performance on Amsterdam motor show, the departure of Ing. Petr Hrdlička, CSc., the joining of the car company with Volkswagen concern, the facelift of the car and the end of the production of Škoda Favorit basic type.
The coronavirus crisis in daily newspaper deník Sport

At the beginning of the year 2020, there was an outbreak of an unknown disease. A new type of coronavirus started to spread across the world and it quickly changed human culture and the life of the entire mankind. In most countries, authorities had to make restrictions to reduce personal contact beetween citiziens and to improve conditions to prevent the spread of the virus among population. For example, theatres, cinemas, restaurants and specialized stores were closed, amateur and professional sport was banned. In the Czech Republic, a resolution was adopted barring all sport organizations from playing and even training in March 2020. An interesting question arose: how would cultural and sports newspapers handle the situation? The media found a way of informing about sports even when no events took place at all. SARS-CoV-2 changed the style of presented content and transformed the entire journalist agenda setting. The Media image of Czech post in years 2012 - 2017

My bachelor study deals with description and evaluation of media image of Czech Post in particular nationwide dailies during the time period from 2012 to 2017. For better contextual understanding the examination exceeds partly also into year 2018. The main goal of study is to examine whether the media image of Czech state postal service and its reputation during the given period were constant or variable (f.e. with regard to current events in this company), coherently it can be also examined whether a tendency is obvious and if such tendency is increasing or declining. The study is divided into two parts. In theoretical part the history of Czech Post is briefly described with stress on the development from 1990s, subsequently the recent business of Czech Post including its management and enterprise development from year 2010 is dealt with. A section is focused on theoretical definition of media image including employed theories, and an overview of examined periodicals: daily Mladá fronta DNES and daily Právo.
