Value Orientation of the Prison Population

Bachelor work - abstract Value Orientation of the Prison Population Michal Veselský Abstract Bachelor work concerns on value orientation of criminal subculture, namely people who are under imprisonment. Work uses quantitative methodological tools (standardized questionnaire) and compare Czech prison and general population. Data for general population were taken from public opinion research (mostly from Public Opinion Research Centre). Data for prison population were procure from own research conducted in 13 prisons with total number of 424 respondents. Results shows that prison and general population do not differ that much. In general, prisoners do not dispute with general values. They rather doubt openness of mobility channels in the social system. Keywords: Prison system, value orientation, public opinion
Evaluation of the situation in some areas of public life in 2009

In December 2009 CVVM survey posed a few questions on basic satisfaction with the chosen areas of public life. People were most satisfied with supply of goods and services (75 % "satisfied") and culture (55 %). Dissatisfaction was related mainly to unemployment (80 %) and corruption (79 % "dissatisfied").
Relationships and Feelings of the National Pride of the Czech Republic

In October survey CVVM focused on the subject of Czech citizen's relationships to the place of residence, the region and the country where they live and feelings of pride and shame related to their Czech citizenship and Bohemia's history, culture, politics and social life. 44 % of respondents said that they were proud of Czech Republic. On the contrary 10 % were ashamed of Czech Republic and the rest of 41 % respondents were niether proud nor ashamed.
Popularity of chosen political ideologies

In September 2009 CVVM investigated what are the most popular political ideologies among poeple in Czech republic. Most of informants have choosen social democracy (23 %), followed by liberal (19 %) and conservative (14 %) ideology. Another were ecological approach to politics (9 %), christian democracy (7 %), communistic (7 %) and socialistic (5 %) ideology.
The change of former political regime

In October 2009 CVVM investigated on public attitudes towards former communist regime. Only 15 % of respondents consider former communist regime to be good and on the contrary 80 % of respondents is against hypothetical return of communism in the Czech Republic.
Public opinion on extremist political parties

In September 2009 CVVM investigated on the issue of extremism in politics. Respondents should name up to two political parties which are according to their opinion supposed to be extremist. Majority named ultra-right wing parties and subjects as an extremist ones and only 10 % of respondents mentioned left wing Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM). So the percentage of respondents who mentioned KSCM dropped radically from 25 % in March 1999 to current 10 %. This result is influenced not only by better image of KSCM in the eyes of public but also by raising activities of ultra-right wing subjects in Czech Republic.
Public opinion on financing Czech science

In August 2009 CVVM investigated on the public attitudes towards the change of financing Czech science and scientific research. Majority (61 % of respondents) considered current budget for science as an unsufficient and 53 % thought that state should increase its expenses on science.
Czechs about unemployment

In June survey CVVM investigated opinions of Czech citizens on the level of unemployment in Czech Republic. Then respondents evaluated situation on labor-market in the place of their living and we also wanted to know their behavior in the course of finding of new job in the case of unemployment.
Satisfaction with conditions of some areas of public life

As a part of June survey realized by CVVM there was a question asking how would informants evaluate some areas of public life. People were most satisfied with supply of goods and services (76 % of respondents expressed their satisfaction), with current situation of Czech culture (61 %) and with relationships of the Czech Republic with foreign countries (48 %). On the contrary dissatisfaction prevails with such areas as a corruption and economical criminality. 73 % of Czech citizens are dissatisfied with economical criminality and 80 % of people are discontented with corruption.
Czech public on global environmental problems

Within May survey CVVM focused on the environment. The survey also investigated how Czech citizens evaluate relevancy of some problems related to global environment. As a most important problemes were marked cumulation of garbage (95 % „very + fairly important problem“), polution of drinking water (95 %), lack of drinking water (90 %) and disappearance of rain forests (89 %). Public opinion is divided on question of nuclear power plants (45 % „very + fairly important problem“ vs. 48 % „minor problem + no problem at all“).
