Čížková, Veronika ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The Czech Counterculture and Its Media Representation in the Period of 1983-1987" analyses the media coverage of that part of culture of the communist regime which was set aside from the propagandized main stream - either systematically by the regime or purposely by its performers. In the first part of the thesis, besides the outlining of the era of normalization and its media, there is a description of this type of culture, both in its illegal way (so called underground culture) and its official way of providing an alternative to the main stream. In the second part, the thesis is focused on following how the media reflected the alternative culture, using the chosen periodicals as an exemplar. The method of the research uses qualitative analysis and the research material consists of periodicals Rudé právo, Tribuna, Mladá fronta, Melodie a Tvorba in the period of the years 1983-1987. The thesis concentrates mainly on music, especially on the special phenomenon, which can be called the "New wave disruption effort." Other concerned issues and revealed facts in this thesis are definite differences about the way of media coverage of alternative culture between the single chosen periodicals, and also the transformation of the way of representation during the studied period.

The idea of the dissertation study is to capture in the historical-literary form Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre's history, characters of its personalities, marionettes, events, and introduced theatre performances in the years 1939-1990, (from the outset of the prof. Josef Skupa's professional puppetry in Pilsen in the protectoral time, through Skupa's theatrical Prague engagement after 2nd World War, over the era of dramatic acting of Miloš Kirschner, Helena Štáchová, and Martin Klásek in the socialistic period, and during normalization years, up to the capitalistic regime transformation. The graduate set up a goal of creating a media reflection of the Spejbl and Hurvinek Theatre's events, which had been noticed and evaluated by the Czechoslovak and Czech mass period daily press - (by the far-right wing fascist magazines Vlajka (1939-40) and Árijský boj (1940), by the left orientated, socialistic newspapers Rudé právo(1948,52,53,55,57,58,59,67,72,75,79,80,82,83,84,85,86,87,88), Svobodné slovo(1959,66,69,77,80,82,83,84,85,87), Mladá fronta (1957,66,75,77,81,82,84,87), by the Christian- Democratic-Conservative paper Lidová demokracie(1966,71,74,77,78,79,81,82,84,85,86,87,88), the Evening Press - Večerní Praha (1969,82), and by the right-wing, capitalistic paper - Mladá fronta Dnes (1990). Reception of Theatre in Late Antiquity: Apologies, Philippics, Scholarly Treatises
Sarkissian, Alena ; Stehlíková, Eva (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee) ; Kulhánková, Markéta (referee)
This thesis has examined several texts that were created in period from 2nd century AD - 12th century AD, i.e. late ancient texts or the texts that drew inspiration from classical tradition. Although the period might seem too wide, it enabled study of continuity and change in the reception of theatre in ancient monographs on this topics. Several questions were asked here. The texts seemed not to have much in common generally. This thesis seeks to find out whether there are any affinities, what their real informative value is in respect to their generic affiliation, what influences affected these treatises and whether and how they influenced each other. The first two chapters determine the issue of this thesis and the current state of research. The third chapter establishes terminology, since the scholarly works on theatre of Late Antiquity and Byzantium have very often defined the term theatre too vaguely, which made it hard to obtain any reasonable output of research. In the fourth chapter the texts to be examined were shortly introduced in chronological order and basic information on their literary qualities was provided to the reader. The analysis of the texts starts in the fifth chapter that discusses generic questions of drama and theatre in Late Antiquity. Tragedy is studied and compared in relation...

The Czech music
Pješčaková, Petra ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
Czech commercial music television Ocko, which started its broadcasting in 2002 under the name Stanice O, is a consequence of changes in the European television industry in the 1980's. These changes were connected primarily with digitalization and deregulation of the television industry. Ocko can be described through its four basic characteristics that predeterminate its form. They are entertainment, media convergence (interactivity), Czechness, and massification. All of these characteristics are gathered under one principle: the economic logic (described primarily by political economy of communication), which creates the form of television Ocko. The central point than is TV ratings. Although Ocko started to broadcast in 2002, it is possible to find there (through its economic logic principles), the culture industry described by Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer in the mid 20th century. At the same time, Ocko can be seen through actual findings of theories of media studies as an example of a death of broadcast television in the post-broadcast era and as an example of the matrix medium. Basic features of Ocko - entertainment, convergence with new media or interactivity, are the main principles of the post-broadcasting era indeed. However, there are still some characteristics in Ocko television that...

Míkovcová, Eliška ; Maršík, Josef (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on Radio 1, its history, its programming format and specific language devices used by the presenters. The aim of the thesis is to identify and describe distinctive features of broadcast, which create "the identity" of Radio 1. The broadcasting scheme is not based on a previously scheduled playlist, as the presenters define the choice of music themselves. Their manners of moderating are essential for the analytical part of this thesis. In the first chapter of the analysis, the deviation from the Czech language standard is noted. The second chapter compares two programmes (Odvážné Palce - Radio 1 and Čelisti - ČRo 4 - Radio Wave) from three perspectives: the structure of content, language devices of the presenters and interpretations of the programme. Both radio station share similar programming format and both programmes are of the same genre and focus on the same theme. The conclusion presents the summary of distinctive features, which contribute to create "the identity" of Radio 1.
Modern lingual tendencies of czech music journalism
Morochovičová, Eliška ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the infiltration of modern tendencies into Czech music journalism. These tendencies represent a wholly new approach to the general standards of journalism, its language and stylistics. Young authors analyzed in this thesis prefer to take rather individualistic approach to music and its reflections. Based on the study of the New Journalism and gonzo journalism in American journalism and literature, and with the application of the general standards of Czech journalism I look into the particularities of those new tendencies, describe their development in various media and analyze the written language of a number of authors. In my thesis I concentrate on various music media dated from the 1990's until now. I analyze a couple of music magazines for interest groups, the modified forms of modern tendencies in music sections of the mass media and the contemporary form of individualistic journalism in music media on the Internet.
