Zkáza lidství - synthesis of dystopia, apokalypse and mysticism

Bachelor thesis focuses on detailed description and thorough analysis of an unusual science fiction novel Zkaza lidstvi by a czech unknown author Josef Akana. The novel (written in 1928) seems to be rather problematic to classify, since it borderlines across various genres such as science fiction, utopia and apocalypse which are represented in the opening chapters. This bachelor thesis analyses the tendency of czech interwar literature, summarizes real war threat common themes and reflects general concerns about social development which also happened to be extremely emphasized in the literature of twenties. Japan in the work of Jan Havlasa

The main focus of my bachelor's thesis is a presentation and analysis of the works of a Czech writer Jan Havlasa that thematize Japan. The first chapter serves as an introduction on the life of the author, focusing on the two sojourn in Japan described in his four travelogues. The second chapter consists of a characterization of the body of Havlasa's prose work about Japan. The last chapter is of a purely analytic and interpretive nature and the proses are analyzed from a variety of perspectives (construction of the narrative, the narrator, image of Japan in Havlasa's works and thematization of arts). Game of Thrones as a Game

The thesis named Game of Thrones as a Game deals with fantasy saga Song of Ice and Fire written by G. R. R. Martin. The main theme is the interconnection of the five-volume narrative with basic game mechanics and features defined by R. Caillois and J. Huizinga. Game of Thrones shows many characteristics of board games and the interpretaion is based on this aproach. Game aspects of the narrative are observed in the analysis of character classes, narrative forms, fictional world functioning and modality and character motivation which are related to game worlds, characters, rules and objectives.
The Factory and Its Victims in Czech Literature of the Second Half of the 19th Century

This bachelor thesis is focused on the factory as the setting for Czech literary works of the second half of the 19th century. It deals in particular with prosaic works taking place in factories by Matěj Anastasius Šimáček and Josef Karel Šlejhar. It also explores the mutual relationship between a human being and the inanimate substance hidden in factories: the literary transformation of a human to an animal and to a machine, and on the other side, the way the factory comes to life and is depicted as a demon or a human being. It also deals with the impacts of the factories on the nature and women's attitude to work and motherhood.
Czechs and the others before and after revolution 1848-1849

The study focuses on the manners of representations of Czechs and other nations/ethnicities in the journalist work of Karel Havlíček Borovský before and after the 1848-9 revolution. Its methodology is based on concepts and approaches elaborated in the area of literary imagology. The theoretical part of the study deals with the issue of emergence of images, their stereotypical components and the mutual relations between self-image and hetero-image. It also describes the features, functions and the process of formation of national stereotypes. The following chapter describes the development of national-political tendencies emerging in the Czechs lands and corresponding to five different concepts of a nation (Austrianness, Germanness, Slavness, Bohemism and Czechness). The following chapter depicts the course of the revolution, where tensions between the individual national-political tendencies were increasing, and Havlíček's work before and during the revolution. The next chapter analyses the individual stereotypical character features of Czechs and other nations in Havlíček's journalist work in 1846-50. The Mirror of Russia in Works of Czech Writers (From K. Havlíček to J. Hašek)

This thesis has an analytical-interpretative character and is divided into two sections. The subject of its research is the mirror of Russia in Czech travelogues of the 19th century. On the background of evolution of the idea of Pan-Slavism and formation of Czech society, the first part of this work tries to establish factual overview of expeditions to Russia in the second half of the 19th century. The second part has purely interpretative character and places emphasis on comparison of reflections from the stay in the Caucasus. Both sections are focus on methods of depicting Russian reality and selection of individual motives for realization of the trips.
Three Regions of František Hrubín

This thesis examines selected work of František Hrubín and its connection to three significant regions in which the author lived, more precisely to Posázaví (Zpíváno z dálky, Krásná po chudobě, Země po polednách, U stolu, Romance pro křídlovku, Lešanské jesličky), Prague - district Holešovice (Hirošima, Proměna, Až do konce lásky) and South Bohemia (Můj zpěv, Srpnová neděle). The thesis deals especially with themes composing a specific image of poetic landscape and with a relation between lyrical subject (or narrator) to examined surrounding.
Karel Slavoj Amerling as a character in the novels by Vladimír Macura

The main objective of this bachelor thesis is method Vladimír Macura used while creating his tetralogy of historical novels called Ten, který bude. As an example we choose character named Karel Slavoj Amerling, which is inspired by historical figure. We use this example and try to describe relations between documents and information gained from sources like memoirs and correspondence and novelistic fiction. Thesis also takes account of science books by Vladimír Macura, who made intense research about Karel Slavoj Amerling and issues of Czech national revival. Besides enumeration of differences and similarities, in the end this thesis leads to interpretation of the novels.

Interpretation of fairy tales authored by Josef Štefan Kubín Ondřej Vojtíšek Abstract: This bachelor's thesis deals with interpretation of Josef Štefan Kubín's author fairy tales both in theory and application. Its goal is to describe options of interpretation of children's literature and to demonstrate these options by means of Kubín's literal work. As a result, this bachelor's thesis also highlights semantics riches and valuable qualities of this part of Kubín's work, which is being neglected by publishers nowadays. In its theoretical part, the thesis addresses several issues: different ways of interpretation of fairy tales, specification of the term "author fairy tale" and the different forms of Kubín's fairy tales. As a method of interpretation, synthesis of several approaches (Franz, Šmahelová, Urbanová, and others) was used and each of these approaches was described by one example. This synthesis provides insight into the meaning of fairy tales that can be therefore understood as representation of situations outlined not only with help of motives but with help of specific expressions as well. Collections of fairy tales authored by Kubín are analyzed in respect to the amount of Kubín's own invention compared with the quantity of folk motives.
