Forgotten Generation. Independent Activities and Samizdat in the Pilsen Region in the 80ies of the 20th Century.

The degree work deals with the last century period of the 80s and 90s in the Pilsen region. Generally, it was time of lack of freedom and intolerance when all the state power was concentrated in one political party - the Czechoslovak Communist Party. With support of police this party manipulated with citizens' dignity, rights and thinking. Through description of some civic activities the work records groups of independent thinking in the Pilsen region. These activities were source of independent atmosphere; that's why they were supervised by the state power; their protagonists were monitored and their activities were supressed. In the work the independent areas are divided into chapters: church, music, scouting, camping, ecology. Another chapter focuses on the local dissent activities. Its members were predominantly from the above mentioned groups. Last chapter deals with unofficial publishing (samizdat) in this period. The aim of the degree work is to find (or at least to outline) the starting points and reasons that finally brought members of various groups (often diametrically opposite) together on the way of independent activities, dissent and unofficial publishing (samizdat).

Czechoslovak Ocean Shipping in memory of Czechoslovak sailors (1959-1989)

The main target of the work is to extend our current knowledge concerning history of the Czechoslovak Ocean Shipping company during the period from the company's founding in 1959 until year 1989. The main basis for this task fulfillment there are interviews with former Czechoslovak sailors realized with help of the oral history method. Beside this, the paper is supported also by archive materials. The text reflects certain specificity of the topic (maritime business running in the inland country, in addition country ruled by non-democratic regime) and it aims to the company's history; but its main part is concentrated on the sailors' living conditions. It processes direct testimonies about sailors' life and work on Czechoslovak ships; there are included topics as travelling, emigration, direct experience with communist regime on ships, private life of sailors, and their father and husband role. The author does not propose definite conclusions; her effort is aimed to see the topic from various points of view. Sailors are not portrayed as exceptional people but as men whose meaning of life was work on the sea. And this fact principally influenced their lives as well as lives of their families.

Eastern Slovaks' reflections of the year 1989. Biographical narratives

This diploma work deals with the reflections of Slovak citizens for 1989's, focusing at the region of Košice city and the surrounding area, especially eastern Slovakia. The fall of the communist regime influenced the further development of the whole of Czechoslovakia. Diploma work focuses at the Slovak nation, which is an integral part of Czechoslovak history, but Czech knowledge of Slovak region is severely restricted. Memories and stories of Eastern Slovak habitants are building blocks of this thesis used to factually illustrate that time. In addition, thesis is based both on the available literature sources and archival materials from the collections of the State Regional Archives in Košice city. The theoretical part of work is based on historical sources and results of various researches on November '89. The research part of the diploma work deals with views, opinions and attitudes of Eastern Slovak's participants of November 1989. Interviews with narrators are analyzed and interpreted using oral history methods. This diploma work aims to reflect the everyday life of people, their work and living conditions before and after November '89. The Civic forum in the process of creation of Czech party system

The Abstract This thesis deals with the process of creation, development and the downfall of the Civic Forum. This process is herewith included to the wider frame of the process of formation of the Czech party system. The Civic Forum represented not only one of the main actor of political development in the first year of transformation, but also the base of creation of some important political parties and movements in the 1990. This thesis is time allowanced by the November 17th, 1989 on one side, and by the end of February, 1991, when the Civic Forum is divided, on the other side. In the first chapter the author deals with the development of Czechoslovak communist regime and the opposition in the years 1987-1989. He follows the change of international political situation of Czechoslovak regime in context of changes in the soviet bloc in the consequence of political and economical reforms in the USSR. The second and most large chapter of this thesis deals with the foundation of Civic Forum and the process of negotiations between representatives of Civic Forum and communist government in November and December of 1989. This thesis "The Tatra company in the period of so-called normalization through eyes of its employees and residents of Kolín", concerning of state privatized enterprise in Kolín. This thesis examines the views and daily life of the employees of the company and residents of Kolín. The work provides an overview of the history and development of the company Tatra. Represents district Kolín and focuses primarily on the description in the period of. Normalization, which touched city, business, residents but also the whole of Czechoslovakia. The thesis is based mainly on archival materials, historical periodicals and interviews, which were conducted by the method oral history with contemporary witnesses. It connects the working environment, personal lives, leisure activities, social culture of the city and residents who were part of a large company and history of the city of Kolín. At the same time, the work seeks to highlight the positives and negatives period of so-called normalization and current relationship of people to the place where they lived more or less part of their lives.

Anticommunism in the Czech republic after 1989, focusing on the perspective of members of the KSČ/KSČM by oral history method

The thesis deals with the topic of anticommunism in the Czech republic after the year 1989. The main subject of the thesis was to describe how this development is perceived and reflected by members of KSČ/KSČM. The author approaches to this research issue by oral history method, through analyses and interpretation of obtained set of interviews: biographical narratives and structured interviews. The author answers to questions: how selected members of KSČ/KSČM define anticommunism, who are anticommunists according them, how they periodize this development and what personal experiences they have with anticommunism. There is also paid attention to question, why selected members of KSČ/KSČM have entered the communist party and why they remained member after year 1989. Than the text summarizes chronological development of anticommunism in Czech republic after year 1989: attempt to make "historical compromise" in the first months of revolution, than utilization of anticommunism for propagation "ideology of privatization" by right wing political parties in the first half of the nineties, gradual transformation of anticommunism to universal weapon of right wing campaign against the left political parties, mainly against ČSSD, with heyday in the year 2006 and decline of anticommunists mood after the year...
