Anthropological Study of Primary School Children and Their Eating Habits
Dvořáková, Lucie ; Ehler, Edvard (advisor) ; Vančata, Václav (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on snacks of older school-age children. The main goal of this work is to summarize knowledge about school snacks of children of older school age. The partial goals are to evaluate the frequency and nutritional structure of children's snacks, to evaluate the energy balance of snacks of the interviewed children, to evaluate the procedure or course of preparation of children's snacks, to assess the nutritional status of respondents. The work is processed in two parts, namely the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part presents and, above all, summarizes the knowledge about healthy eating of older school- age children. For this reason, the chapters deal with the specifics of eating of this target group, as well as the principles and errors in the nutrition of these children, the importance of the nutrition pyramid for childhood, the eating habits of children of this period. The practical part consists of three parts. The first part is devoted to the composition of school snacks and is examined from the analysis of dietary records that children filled in and were further evaluated. The second part of the survey focuses on the analysis of the interview with open-ended questions. The last part deals with the anthropometric survey of students with the...
Perinatal Phase of Ontogenesis - Variability and Complications
Netušilová, Nikola ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Hlaváčová, Lucie (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals mainly with obstetric complications, with a part dedicated to the so- called cephalopelvic disproportion. The theoretical part of the thesis gives the reader a comprehensive overview of childbirth and its course. In the introduction, childbirth is defined in general terms, followed by a description of the different components of childbirth, and then a description of the time of delivery. Finally, the theoretical part is devoted to the definition of the cephalopelvic disproportion. The anatomy of the pelvis and fetal head is mentioned in relation to this complication. Furthermore, the major risk factors that usually condition the development of this disproportion are described. The practical part is carried out in the form of a questionnaire survey. Based on the questionnaire, the most common risk factors were identified, the possible occurrence of cephalopelvic disproportion was mapped and it was also investigated whether the participants are sufficiently informed about the possible occurrence of this complication. Adequate information is very important in the context of obstetric complications. Basic information and diagnoses are necessary to ensure that the woman is advised to have a birth that does not endanger herself or her foetus. It is clear from the survey results...
The Importance of Circadian Rhythms in Humans with a Focus on Adolescents
Kolářová, Michaela ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
The aim of the presented diploma thesis is a detailed outline of the meaning of circadian rhythms in adolescence. Circadian rhythms appear in early childhood, but undergo many changes during lifetime. While in early childhood the waking and sleeping cycle shifts to an earlier time, during adolescence it is quite the opposite and the cycle is shifted a few hours later and in older age the cycle even returns to an earlier state. Adolescence is associated with the most significant changes and increased demands on study, independence and generally more overload at the expense of quality and adeqaute sleep, which not only causes circadian rhythms to dissipate and shift dramatically, which such as health. For adolescents, the delayed phase is naturally correlated with sexual development, with sleep patterns being controlled by the biological component. Respecting physiological changes in adolescence and striving for institutional changes seem to be the most appropriate therapies instead of forcing patterns basen on institutional and parental needs, which only undermines adolescent body chemistry, results in insufficient and poor quality sleep for functioning and healthy physiological development of adolescents.
Y-chromosomal polymorphisms in the Czech population with focus on Moravian Valachs: evolutionary anthropology study.
Ehler, Edvard ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Černý, Viktor (referee) ; Brdička, Radim (referee)
1 Abstract Aim: This study presents an evolutionary anthropology approach to the history of Moravian Valachs. The origins of Valach population are approached by evaluating the admixture event that marked the appearance of Moravian Valachs. Methods & data: Focus of my Ph.D. project lies on Y-chromosomal variation, using 12 Y-STR loci haplotype to compute population genetic statistics, to infer Y-chromosomal haplogroup information and to compare Moravian Valachs to other European populations. Admixture analysis was performed. Our data set contains haplotypic information from 44 populations with the total of 4757 individuals. Moravian Valachs are presented by 94 DNA samples. Results: Our data reveal a decreased genetic variability in Moravian Valachs compared to other Central European populations. This feature is most probably caused by isolation of Valach population. Multidimensional scaling and comparison of FST distances shows Valach population as related to populations from Poland, Romania and Macedonia. Shared haplotypes and AMOVA tests place the Valachs to the Central European region. Also admixture analysis, as well as demographic and historical data, stresses the influence of autochthonous population of Moravia in the forming of Moravian Valachs. Conclusion: Moravian Valachs represent a hybrid...

Engaging pre-school children in research: design and evaluation of participatory methods
Lněnička, Ondřej ; Přívratský, Vladimír (advisor) ; Vančata, Václav (referee)
The modern world is focused on children. We care much more about the right regime of our children, about hygiene and other aspects of their daily routine. So it is not surprising that many scientists start their recent projects on or with children. Anthropology is not an exception. This study creates a smaller part of a larger sleep research study which aims to investigate whether two community based social marketing campaigns influence parents' view of pre-school children sleep requirements and healthy sleep practices. This work targets directly pre-school children and wants to determine if we are able to educate children about healthy and right sleeping habits through specifically performed game based activities. The main aim of this study is to find out which games are useful for enhancing the results of the supreme Medical Anthropology research. Secondary aim is to solve what we can generally do for a better engagement of children in our research.

For the research part was used an electronic questionnaire where was collected 34 answers. This thesis includes research and comparison about rearing of 9 own white cockatoos. Objectives: The aim of this work was to describe breeding of white cockatoo in the Czech Republic to give an idea about this kind of parrots to the breeders of exotic parrots. As the first work about breeding and rearing fledgling based on questionnaires, which is complemented by administrative data on hand-rearing several fledglings of white cockaoo. Methods: Data were collected by using structured questionnaire for breeders of white cockatoo in the Czech Republic. The questionnarie was about breeding and rearing this kind of Cockatoo. For the analysis of the development and weight gain of the fledglings was used an administrative monitoring of own breed of white cockatoo. Results: From the research is clear that the fledglings which were additionaly feeded by mixture NutriBird and Kaytee we now know that fledglings which were...
Growth and Proportional Changes in Chidren at Grammar Schools
Zeťková, Marie ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
This diploma thesis describes an anthropological survey of pupils in the 8th and 9th grades of certain primary schools in the Zlin Region (Czech Republic), pertaining to which the data thus obtained were subsequently processed and evaluated. The aim of the work was to analyse proportional changes and the biological maturity exhibited by the members of the probands through KEI, based on empirical data, in addition to determining the given somatotype according to the method of Heath & Carter (1967). ANTROPO 2000.2 software was utilized for processing the data. The findings of said research are compared with the data reported by the National Anthropological Survey (Czech Republic, 2001).
Dating in Geological Science
Valčíková, Marie ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Vančata, Václav (referee)
The presented Bachelor thesis has a character of a literature search and discusses aspects related to the determination of time in geological sciences. In the broader concept, the thesis can be divided into two major units. The first part describes the geological sciences, which are directly or indirectly related with determining the time, such as historical geology, stratigraphy, paleontology, structural and sedimentary geology. In this part the process of recording geological history of planet Earth is also defined and characterized, including specifications of the geological time scale and historical preview on issue of development in determining the time connected with issues of determining the age of the Earth. The second part of the thesis deals with relative and absolute methods that are used in geological sciences for determining the time. Two main laws of relative dating are presented, i.e. the law of superposition and the law of the same fossils. Absolute radiometric dating methods are briefly described and characterized with respect to their application to geological practice. While the selection reflects the commonality of the application in geology. Key words: time, geologic sciences, age of the Earth, relative dating, absolute dating
