Serafínová, Naďa ; Vopravil, Jiří (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
SELECTED ASPECTS OF DUAL ALCOHOL AND MARIJUANA USAGE Naďa Serafínová SERAFÍNOVÁ, Naďa. Selected Aspects of dual alcohol and marijuana usage. Prague, 2017. 51 pages.. Bachelor thesis (Bc.). Charles Unversity, First Faculty of Medicine , Department of Addictology. Tutor: Vopravil, Jiří. ABSTRACT Background: Patterns of use of alcohol as well as motivations for alcohol use are well described in the addiction research and theory. What is not clear is whether the increasing availability and consumption of marijuana has any effects towards one's relationship to alcohol. It is clear however, that at least part of marijuana users must also be alcohol users. In theory, there are two options: Increasing use of marijuana may have a substitution (substituting alcohol with marijuana) or complementary (increasing the usage of) effects on alcohol consumption. A group of poly-drug substance users who combine alcohol and marijuana are also more commonly associated with risky behaviour by various studies. One way or the other, the poly drug use of alcohol and marijuana (also called cross-fading) is the subject of increasing interest by the researchers. Aims: The aims of this work is to provide an overview of the current theory regarding both drugs, as well as a description of use motivations, consumption patterns, effects of...

During the institutional treatment, the client should get new overview of his addiction, enforce his decision for a change and reevaluate his lifestyle. Aims: The main aim of this thesis is to find how the alcohol addicted clients, the clients repetitively hospitalized for the relapses, lived through the retrieve into the normal life after the institutional treatment. The other aim is to find usual problems that arise after the treatment and reasons for the relapse. Moreover, the question is what the experience with the aftercare care is and what is the main support on their way to recovery. I have focused on the period between the first and the last treatment. The principal research questions: Which factors influenced the relapse of the clients? Other research questions: What are the experiences with the aftercare programs? Summary: The main theme of this work is a relationship between substance users who visits low- treshold services in Prague and their dogs. Many of these people own a dog and their relationship hasn't been described yet. This ownership brings some specific limits - for example taking care of the dog (feeding, health, training), accepting the responsibility and moreover, a pet can represent an obstacle in accommodation or treatment. On the other side, a dog has a very positive impact on a human mental state and averts the feeling of loneliness. A dog can be a factor to the increase of money made during begging and is a protector and a friend to a human in their life. The aim of this thesis is to describe relationship between substance user and his dog. Research questions ask how important the dog is in the life of a drug user and what positives and negatives a dog brings in his life. I implemented a semi-structured interview in a terrain outreach program for drug users for bigger authenticity of the statements acquired. I had a chance to see how respondents manipulate with their dogs in their natural surroundings and sometimes the conditions they are living in. Interviews were recorded with the agreement of the participants and then I transcribed them. I deleted all interviews after processing data. The...

Tauchmanová, Karolína ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
AIMS: The aim of this thesis was to find out how pathological gamblers deal with stress situations and which particular coping strategies they use. The assumption based on previous research is that pathological gamblers tend to overuse negative coping strategies instead of positive strategies. METHODS: The research took place within ambulance treatment in the Clinic of Addictology of the General University Hospital in Prague and was realized with group of seven participants. The results were obtained using quantitative and qualitative research methods and the main tools were SOGS, SOC, SVF78 and anamnestic questionnaire which helped to identify the demographic data. RESULTS: The obtained outcomes correspond to previous studies and suggest that participants tend to overuse negative coping strategies such as self-blaming, resignation and perseverance in stressful situations. At the same time, their confidence towards the world is reduced, which means that they perceive the world as messy and incomprehensible. CONCLUSION: The research could be used to engage in professional practice in terms of training appropriate coping strategies that pathological gamblers could apply in stressful situations. In order to verify the outcomes, it would be necessary to carry out a complementary study to include...

Substance use among students of addictology
Kubičová, Lucie ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Libra, Jiří (referee)
Addictology is a multidisciplinary field of addictive behavior. The theme of my thesis is the effort to find a possible connection between the selection of the given field and the use of addictive substances by the students of addictology or by someone in their immediate vicinity. The final thesis from previous years show that addictology students have a higher prevalence of alcohol consumption than general medicine students and dental students, and that more than half of all students in the Bachelor's cycle study smoking tobacco. The aim of this research study is to determine the extent of addictive behavior among students of addictology and then to compare it with students of other university disciplines. I suppose that the extent of addictive behavior will be higher among students of addictology than students of other university disciplines. The data was obtained through an anonymous electronic questionnaire filled out by 220 students of different schools and subjects. A survey sample of respondents was divided into an experimental group of addictology students and a control group of students of other higher education disciplines. At the statistical level of significance, I have succeeded in verifying the hypothesis that addictology students have a higher degree in their immediate vicinity of a...
