Methodology of the use of non-invasive surveying methods - ground-penetrating radar, impact-echo method and ultrasonic transmission measurement of the surface to assess the condition and construction details of the sandstone coat of buildings
Havlín, J. ; Slavíková, M. ; Válek, Jan ; Pavelka, K.
The methodology describes principles of selected methods (ground-penetrating radar, impact-echo method, ultrasound), their potentials, limitations and advantages when combined during the survey of stone coats of structures. Further on, the methodology indicates the process of the measurement itself and evaluation of the collected data.

Surveying of voids in masonry of tympanum of front façade of Národní Museum
Válek, Jan ; Skružná, Olga ; Frankl, Jiří
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) was used for non-destructive surveying of indoor brick masonry. After data evaluation size and positions of internal masonry voids were determined.\n\n
Assessment of masonry structures in the room No. 303 on the first floor of Upper Castle of Kunštát State Castle
Drdácký, Miloš ; Frankeová, Dita ; Kloiber, Michal ; Koudelková, Veronika ; Lesák, Jaroslav ; Válek, Jan ; Viani, Alberto
Non-destructive evaluation techniques have been adopted to assess the present situation of the walls with recently discovered frescoes in the rebuilt part of the castle. IR thermography, videoscope and ground penetrating radar were used for the classification of masonry, especially for the detection of hidden structural elements. Samples of historic mortars were analysed by thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The analyses showed that binder of mortars consists of dolomitic lime.
Analysis of new renders and masonry damaged by moisture and water-soluble salts
Válek, Jan ; Skružná, Olga ; Ševčík, Radek ; Frankeová, Dita ; Nunes, Cristiana Lara
Research report about the state of new renders of the building Obecní Dvůr, Prague 1. Very high concentration of nitrates in masonry was identified as the reason of their bad state.
Optimization of Processes of Customer Relationship Management
Kovář, Martin ; Válek, Jan (referee) ; Videcká, Zdeňka (advisor)
Main purpose of this bachelor thesis is to analyze a workflow and suggest optimization of processes in order to provide improvement of customer oriented services by implementing of changes to satisfy both customers and internal users needs. Modernization of current information system is one of the crucial steps taken to support this solution.
Traditional lime technologies of historical buildings and their use at present. Final report
Válek, Jan
The project was based on a design and construction of a lime kiln. The kiln was tested and described and it enabled to study the effects of traditional lime production on quality of lime. This also allowed to produce lime binders, which were commonly used in the past and were later on abandoned. Research and experimental works focused on quality of lime putties and determining the suitability of different types of previously used materials for production of lime binders. Detailed research of available resources related to the lime production was carried out. The important aim was creation of applied outputs that would be useful in practical care of historical buildings.
Desing and production of specialized lime binders for restoration of monuments using historical technologies
Válek, Jan ; Matas, Tomáš ; Jiroušek, Josef ; van Halem, Eveline ; Hauková, Petra ; Frankeová, Dita ; Frankl, Jiří ; Tomanová, Olga ; Panáček, Michal
The methodological guideline supports the use of traditional lime materials for repair of historical buildings. It describes the main steps to be carried out when it is required to use a traditional lime mortar. The guideline provides an overview of the circumstances for using traditional technologies which are applied in the design and selection of lime binder and its treatment. It specifies essential procedures and principles that determine traditional production and processing of lime and recommends specific procedures for the lime processing and mortar production. The guideline is intended for architects, building engineers, cultural heritage conservators, conservation scientists, technologists, restorers and practitioners.

Non-invasive techniques of assessment of sandstone masonry
Havlín, J. ; Slavíková, M. ; Válek, Jan ; Bayer, K.
A whole range of non-invasive assessment techniques is available today and they open new possibilities for extending building surveying possibilities of built heritage. The paper discusses their use for the assessment of facing stone masonry of the Charles Bridge in Prague.
Verification tests of position of re-bars on selected construction elements by GPR method
Válek, Jan ; Drdácký, Miloš ; Urushadze, Shota
Assessment of application of a ground penetration radar for detection of re-bars on selected reinforced concrete elements of an industrial car assembly hall. Based on the results, the GPR was not selected as a suitable NDT method for this specific case.
