Exercising the competencies of principals in the management of Arab schools in Israel and their impact on the organizational school climate
Agayneh, Abdulrahman ; Chvál, Martin (advisor) ; Urbánek, Petr (referee) ; Poláchová-Vašťatková, Jana (referee)
This thesis focuses on the application of principal's competencies in managing Arab schools in Israel and their possible impact on the climate of the teaching staff. It aims to understand the context of principal's and teacher's work in Arab schools in Israel and to show through its own research the links between instructional management style and the climate of the teaching staff in these schools. The first part of the thesis introduces Israeli society and the structure of the education system. The conditions are compared for education in Arab and Jewish schools. It then focuses on the competencies of principals from a general managerial point of view and from the point of view of the rights and duties given by law. Their competencies include the instructional management of the school. The aim of my own empirical research was to describe the instructional management styles of principals in Arab schools in Israel, to describe the climate of the teaching staff in these schools, and to describe the relationship between instructional management style and climate, or to identify the instructional management factors that contribute to a favorable climate in the teaching staff. Freely available and standardized questionnaire methods were used. Instructional management style was measured using the...
Conditions of work of a teacher in today's society
Váchová, Markéta ; Urbánek, Petr (advisor) ; Majerčíková, Jana (referee) ; Stará, Jana (referee)
The dissertation is devoted to the subject of the teacher's working conditions in contemporary society. Since there are many types of conditions of a teacher's work and this issue can be examined from many points of view, I focused on the conditions that can cause morally dilemmatic situations in a teacher's work. The aim of the thesis is to open up a hitherto little discussed topic in the field of the teaching profession. The work has a theoretical-empirical character. Its theoretical part presents basic knowledge related to topics relevant to the issue under consideration (society; contemporary society; teacher and his work; teacher's profession; teacher's communication; stress in teaching work; moral dilemmas; moral distress). The aim of the research described in the methodological and practical part is to obtain detailed information about situations that represent a moral dilemma for teachers in their work. A mixed research approach was therefore undertaken to best fulfill this objective. The qualitative part contains twenty conducted semi-structured interviews with selected teachers on the topic of morally dilemmatic situations in their work. This was followed by the analysis of interviews and the division of morally dilemmatic situations into categories: teacher vs. parents of pupils; teacher...

Mužíková, Jana ; Starý, Karel (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee) ; Urbánek, Petr (referee)
The thesis Formative Assessment of EFL students' Speaking Skills in an upper-secondary vocational classroom describes attitudes to assessment of three English language teachers at a Czech business academy from the perspective of formative assessment just before the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. The case study aims to show what happens behind the classroom door by providing a deep insight into the assessment practices of EFL learning at a Czech secondary vocational school. The theoretical part defines formative assessment as feedback which brings the learner valuable information concerning the knowledge and skills in the process of learning when it is still possible to work on improving the output; it explores different formative strategies in the context of communicative approach to EFL learning, namely Speaking Skills development. The empirical part builds on the qualitative data collection which consisted of several phases and methods: firstly, school documents were analysed to understand the assessment processes in general, followed by the semi-structured individual interviews with a headmistress and three EFL teachers. Student focus groups and three individual interviews with students were carried out to clarify students' approach to their assessment. Most importantly, classroom practices of...
Hepatocyte transplantation in acute liver failure in experiment
Koblihová, Eva ; Ryska, Miroslav (advisor) ; Urbánek, Petr (referee) ; Liška, Václav (referee)
Acute liver failure (ALF) is life-threatening disease with high mortality rate. Orthotopic liver transplantation is the only effective therapy but it is limited with scarcity of donor organs. Other methods are searching for as bridging therapy. Transplantation of hepatocytes seems to be a promising method. We have chosen the chemical model of acute liver failure caused by intraperitoneal (i.p.) application of thioacetamide (TAA) in rats. We wanted to investigate the course of ALF when induced by increasing doses of TAA, ranging from 175 to 700 mg/kg of body weight i.p. per day. Plasma levels of albumin, bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase activities and ammonia levels and survival rate were determined. We also examined whether Wistar and Lewis rats exhibit any differences in the course of ALF in response to increasing TAA doses. Our data show that Wistar rats are more susceptible to developing TAA-induced ALF than Lewis rats. In the other part we focused on hepatocyte transplantation in ALF. TAA was administrated i.p. in two injections, in the total amount of 525 mg/kg of body weight. After this dose all Lewis rats developed ALF and without treatment succumbed within first 48 h. Hepatocyte were isolated from transgenic male rat luc-Lwe-Tg in two step collagenase...
Immune Reactivity of Hepatic T Lymphocytes and Their Role in Pathogenesis of Liver Diseases
Carey, Ivana ; Vítek, Libor (advisor) ; Urbánek, Petr (referee) ; Červinková, Zuzana (referee)
The interaction of different pathogens with systemic and liver immune system is suggested an important factor in pathogenesis of various liver diseases. The variable aspects of this interaction and different immune system patways were subject of the present thesis. The ultimate goal of the present thesis was to investigate the reactivity of the local and systemic immune system against different disease related antigens and to demonstrate their participation in liver diseases and liver damage pathogenesis. Chronic hepatitis B infection, chronic hepatitis C infection and drug-induced liver damage were investigeted by 7 different studies using ex-vivo and in-vitro methods. In general, chronic liver diseases are associated with increased oxidative stress. Due to this fact, the role bilirubin, a potent endogenous antioxidant, was also analysed. The results of presented studies demonstrate clearly active participation of immune system to the pathogenesis of liver diseases, its direct involvement in liver damage and its effect on outcome of disease. The protective role of bilirubin in oxidative stress was confirmed. In conclusion, the results of all presented studies in this thesis illustrate the role of systemic as well as liver based immune system as a crucial player in the pathogenesis of liver...
University Exam as a Pedagogical Issue
Poórová, Edita ; Dvořák, Dominik (advisor) ; Šebková, Helena (referee) ; Urbánek, Petr (referee)
The thesis deals with an examination in the context of student assessment in higher education. This process is researched in terms of the institutional frame of student assessment at universities and within a real educational process. We would like to point at the topicality of this theme in pedagogical theory, practice and research. Despite the fact that examination and assessment of students at university belongs to the duties of a university teacher this theme has neither been researched nor discussed in Slovakia a lot. The aim of our thesis was to find out how the university students are examined and assessed during a semester in Slovakia and what external factors influence this process. In our theoretical part we concentrate on important aspects of the university student assessment process as they are presented in literature. In the empirical part we describe the research which we have conducted at different faculties of three universities in Slovakia. By means of the qualitative research methods (document analysis, interview, observation) we have elaborated a multiple case study which brings an analysis of the assessment strategies of eight ESP teachers in different study programs. The results of our research show that studied university teachers act in the student assessment process very...
