Youth Exchange in the process of Czech-German Reconciliation
Staňková, Marie ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The diploma thesis examines extracurricular youth exchanges and meetings and their role in the Czech-German reconciliation process with a time focus on the period between 1996 and 2020. The Czech-German reconciliation process was influenced by a large number of state and non-state actors, and while the role of many of them was extensively described in the literature, Czech-German youth exchanges received only marginal attention. This diploma thesis aims to describe the development and activities of the Coordination Centers of Czech- German Youth Exchanges Tandem, the Czech-German Fund for the Future and the Czech- German Youth Forum in the given period and to monitor how youth exchanges and meetings supported by these three institutions developed. The focus is mainly on their content and thematic development. Furthermore, several types of impacts and influence of youth exchanges in public space are described and placed in the context of the analytical concept of the process of reconciliation in international relations according to Lily Gardner Feldman.

In the first part, the presented paper deals with legislation concerning narcotics and addictive substances in the period of the Weimar Republic and subsequently in the period of the Third Reich, including several international conventions that were binding for the member states of the League of Nations, where Germany was a member till 1933. In the second part, the paper focuses on scientific research in the field of chemistry and pharmacy, in the thirties of the 20th century which resulted in development of addictive stimulants. Their use in the armed forces of the German Wehrmacht and among the highest Nazi leaders is then dealt with in the third part of this paper. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes the discrepancy that arose in this regard during the Second World War between the state-constituting Nazi ideology and war practice.

Molecular and Biochemical Features of Threee Enzymes that May Serve as New Drug Targets in Cryptosporidium Parvum
Čtrnáctá, Vlasta ; Staňková, Marie (advisor) ; Kraml, Jiří (referee) ; Nečas, Emanuel (referee)
Molecular and biochemical features of three enzymes that may serve as new drug targets in Cryptosporidium parvum Cryptosporidium parvum is a unicellular, obligatory and intracellular parasite belonging to the Phylum Apicomplexa. This parasite can infect both humans and animals, causing an acute diarrhea in immunocompetent persons, and a chronic life threatening infection in immunocompromised individuals. Although many drugs, to combat this parasite, have been empirically tested, there is no completely effective therapy to treat cryptosporidiosis in humans or animals. In recent years, the completion of the genome sequencing projects in C. parvum and C. hominis along with advances in molecular methods have significantly helped to increase our general understanding of the C. parvum metabolic machinery. However, our knowledge concerning many specific pathways and enzymes in Cryptosporidium is still limited. Their better understanding in this organism would aid in experimentation of new drugs and new strategy development to treat cryptosporidiosis in humans and animals. In this dissertation, three essential metabolic enzymes of C. parvum have been tested: Pyruvate:NADP + oxidoreductase (PNO) is a unique, core metabolic enzyme, responsible for converting pyruvate to acetyl-CoA. It is a rare fusion of an...

1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague Abstract of the dissertation thesis for the PhD course Medical psychology and psychopathology Attitudes and riskiness of the sexual behaviour of high school students in Prague related to HIV/AIDS infection Mgr. Pavla Moravcová, Prague Sept. 20th 2008 Objective: The purpose of the study is to map the components of attitudes, knowledge and behaviours related to the sexuality risky from the point of view of the HIV/AIDS infection in the students of last two years of grammar schools, specialized high schools and apprentice training centres (being the three basic types of Czech high school institutions) in Prague. Design and Method: The study is a quantitative survey of a sample of 500 male and 500 female students of the last two years of grammar schools, specialized high schools and apprentice training centres in Prague. The method of selection based on quotes was used, the quotes being: sex, type of school, and year of study. Results: A wide range of data about attitudes, knowledge and real...
Toxoplasmosis-selected epidemiological characteristics and laboratory experience in Pilsen
Fajfrlík, Karel ; Pazdiora, Petr (advisor) ; Kodym, Petr (referee) ; Staňková, Marie (referee)
Toxoplasmosis is one the most prevalent protozoan diseases in the world. Some regions declare up to 80% presence of antibodies in human population. The prevalence in Czech Republic varies depending on the region between 25%-50%. The cause of this disease is protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. The final host is cat and other felines in which GIT the sexual cycle of this parasite takes place. Human together with other 350 animal species is the intermediate host. In those individuals parasite forms so called tissue cysts in which it could persist for its entire life. The infection is acquired through undercooked meat or organs of the intermediate host, manipulation with meat or organs of infected individuals, eating of food contaminated with cat feces and/or through contact with contaminated outside environment. Infection proceeds without any symptoms in 90% of immunocompetent patients. 10% patients display sometimes very various clinical symptoms. The disease is divided into different forms according to prevailing symptoms. This disease presents a great danger to immunosuppressed patients and pregnant females. In the first group it can cause a serious damage of CNS (Central Nervous System) and in some parts of the world it is one of the most frequent death causes in HIV positive patients. In pregnant females...
