Development of writing skills by using a method of blended-learning

Writing skills are an important element of mastering a foreign language. In this thesis various methods used to develop writing skills in a foreign language are described - from traditional to alternative, such as creative writing technics. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effectiveness of the blended learning method in the development of writing skills in foreign/second language. The Reception of Normalization in the Czech literature in 70th - 80th.

Primary aim of this diploma is characteristic of changes in official works of Czech literature in the period of "Normalization". The first chapter focuses on a general description of the social situation of the 1970s and 1980s from the economic, political and cultural point of view. In the second chapter we summarized the specific features of socialist realism as an artistic method and the basic censure requirements on the literature of commitment. The basic source of characteristic of the literary process are primarily critical articles and theoretical monographies about socialist realism of 70s and 80s. In the third chapter we analyzed the selected works applying requirements of engaged critic in the representation of the normalization context or directly a social situation of the 70s and 80s. The main aim of this thesis is narrative analysis of selected texts, not the general quality evaluation of officially published works.

Methods of Teaching Selected Grammar Structures in Czech for Foreigners at the Basic Level

The subject of this study is a suggestion and, within the framework of the possibility, a verification of the concept of teaching of Czech endings for foreigners without using samples. The study covers the declinations of nouns, adjectives and personal, demonstrative and possessive pronouns. In the development of our concept, we proceed from the fact that the Czech language, as well as the other Slavonic languages is characterized by significant level of endings' synonymy and homonymy. We use this fact as a reference point and create tables on its basis. The work consists theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part is divided into two pieces. The first piece of the theoretical part is devoted to the different approaches to the problem of teaching endings for foreigners on the basic level. In the second piece, we introduce the new concept and explain the use of the tables based on homonymy, which are suggested in the practical part. The practical part is composed entirely of these twenty-five tables, which were created ready for use in teaching.

Typology of mistakes made by Russian-speaking foreign students in written communication

The bachelor thesis deals with the typology of interference errors of students, whose native language is Russian, and analyses the texts of respondents who have achieved B1and B2 level according to the CEFR which are available online in MERLIN corpus. After a brief introduction to the issue of interlingual interference and an overview of the selected differences between Czech and Russian, which are the source of interference errors, the results of the error analysis are presented. Errors are divided into categories and classified by the frequency of occurrence, and statistical data are compared between B1 and B2 level respectively.

Effectiveness of the Creative Writing Method to Develop Writing Skills in Czech as Foreign/Second Language

This dissertation concentrates on the development of writing skills in learners of Czech as a foreign/second language at A2-B2 levels. It aims to determine whether creative writing has positive influence on linguistic and discursive competence in acquiring Czech, as opposed to classic approaches. For these purposes, a probe was conducted in form of a one-semester qualitative action research. The sample consisted of 30 non-native University respondents. They were divided into two experimental and two control groups - with upmost regard to their comparability in terms of language levels, socio-linguistic parameters, the genres and topics assigned, as well as the number of lessons taught. In experimental groups, the writing skills was developed by the method of creative writing while the control groups were taught by means of traditional approach. After the semester, in case of experimental group I and control group I (at levels B1/B2), comparable increase in competences took place, therefore it can be concluded that the creative writing method may influence the development of the writing skills positively. In case of experimental group II and control group II (at levels A2/B1), the results are ambiguous. Nevertheless, the experimental groups̕ respondents had higher sureness in drafting.

Reflection of Povídky malostranské in the film and by readers

(in English): The bachelor thesis Reflection of Tales of the Lesser Quarter in the film and by readers studies the life of the Czech writer living in the second half of the 19th century, Jan Neruda, and his prosaic work. The thesis aims to compare the movie adaptations to their written versions. Part of it is a survey containing both open and closed questions which led the author to gain opinions of viewers and readers to the overall works. The answers from the research are complemented with tables and diagrams. Also, the thesis contains a biography of the author and reflections about his life's influence on Tales of the Lesser Quarter.

Utopia in the Czech interwar prose

(in English): The diploma thesis compares the selected novels of Czech interwar prose, ie. from the nineteen twenties and thirties, for the purpose of giving a versatile view of grasping the (anti)utopian genre, finding intersections, parallels and differences in the processing of utopian matter, themes, motives, compositional aspects, etc. Also, the thesis gives an overview regarding autho-rs of utopias in Czech and world literature, and about the development of the genre in historical context. Emphasis is put on the specificity of the Czech concept of utopia, on its diversity and possible inspiration for other literatures.

Czech Translations of The Government Inspector by N.V.Gogol

The bachelor thesis compares selected Czech translations of the drama The Government Inspector written by Gogol. The thesis summarizes Gogol's lifetime, his bibliography and the origin of his work. The thesis also analyzes the content of drama The Government Inspector including the characters. Furthermore, it is focused on theoretical knowledge of translatology. In the thesis are described particularities of Russian. The thesis also introduces two of Czech translators and the age of their work. The Representation of Šumava in the works of Karel Klostermann

This work deals with the fate of selected places or villages in which the stories of Karel Klostermanns literary works take place. Klostermann was an important writer of the 19th century, who dealt with the lives and the residents of Šumava in his literary works. The plot of his novels and short stories take place in different localities of Šumava. Šumava is a place that was populated predominantly with a German-speaking population in this time. In 1945 this population was forced to leave the region. The goal of my work is to show the reality of the former time in the literary work of Karel Klostermann. The focus is on selected locations and their fate up to the present. As a basis for this analysis are two selected novels from Karel Klostermann: V ráji šumavském, Ze světa lesních samot. Narrative in Fanfiction - Russian-Czech Comparison of the Fandom of BBC's Sherlock

(in English): The bachelor thesis analyses and draw a parallel between Russian and Czech fan fics written in the context of Sherlock BBC fandom. It defines fanfiction and briefly tells about the origin and development of this phenomenon just as at the international level so within Czech and Russian culture medium. The thesis studies Lubomír Doležel theory of Narrative Modes in Literature, also it deals with focalisation in narrative texts; it explores Russian and Czech stories from the perspective of their narrative construction, language characteristics, intertextual relations to the canon, sometimes even to other literary works and compares results collected in each group. The thesis aims at revealing peculiar features and similarities and differences between fanfics belonging to Russian and Czech fans of Sherlock BBC fandom.
