Teaching-space paradigm
Belopotocký, Maroš ; Bureš, David (referee) ; Sládeček, Svatopluk (advisor)
The task of the bachelor's thesis is to design the completion of the Faculty of Architecture in the BUT campus in the Brno-centre district between Úvoz, Údolní and Tvrdého streets, due to the planned transfer of the faculty from the current premises on Poříčí Street. The issue of completion allows for the expansion of the faculty premises and the addition of capacities for which the current situation no longer has a place. The project also addresses the use of the original historic buildings and the connection of the Faculty of Architecture with the Faculty of Fine Arts within one area.
Teaching-space paradigm

What should the current area of higher education be like? And what should be the space for creative work? Is the type of teaching reflected in the school building itself? I wonder if, for example, the Faculty of Social Studies would be made up only of social spaces? If the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering were to look like a hall for the production of automotive components, what would the Faculty of Legal Studies look like? And what about the Faculty of Architecture? Does the appearance and quality of the building determine the appearance of the projects created there? Does its structure affect the next generation of architects? Or should it be as clean and white as canvas before the first stroke of the brush is projected on it? I deal with both assumptions: the building as a pure paper, which gives freedom for creativity and does not limit the mind, and on the other hand, matter, structure, space, which shows what architecture can do. I prefer freedom of choice, which is why I want to describe both approaches in the proposal. Open-space free layout versus firmly defined closed studios. Artistic space, free versus technically and rationally defined space. Virtual space versus space of unchanging matter.

The area around Provazníkova Street and Tomkova Square lost its urban character over time and the current transport solution and preparation for its adjustment from the site made the deserted space. The project deals with the question of whether it is possible to live in the vicinity of a large traffic structure, which makes the site at first sight unattractive.

The core focus of this project is the solution of the land planning in the area of Tomkovo náměstí in Brno near the Velký městský okruh. It deals with the impact of the circuit’s dual carriageway on the surrounding environment and offers how to integrate this transport structure into the newly built area as well as into the original urban area. The solution includes a composition of objects designed either in a form of permanent living space or a hostel, all with the addition of an outside marketplace.

TOMEK’S SQUARE + CIRCUIT Bypass. Traffic. Cars. Chaos. Barrier. Will the project of new upper-level highway influence the functioning of Tomek’s square in a negative way? Will it become a big barrier which separates all of the surrounding into several isolated fragments? The urbanistic concept adds another local circuit to the Outer Brno Bypass which is designed especially for the pedestrians and which by its bright colour eases their orientation in such chaotic space. It also underlines all the attractive landmarks in the area - riverbank of river Svitava, Husovický hill, Sokol's sports grounds and new flea market situated under the bridge of Outer Brno Bypass. Centre of the circuit lies in Tomek's Square - current chaotic junction. TOMEK´S SQUARE – SPACE The concept works with idea of creating a new public space which the current Tomek's square lacks, it also reacts to its hectic situation by creating the oposite environment. Pedestrian circuit connects the surrounding areas, especially the new flea market linked to the new public space by lengthening supporting wall that defines borders of the flea market. TOMEK´S SQUARE – LIVING Composition of the corner footprint is inspired by the buldings in the current Tomek's Square. It respects its features by leaving the plan opened while clearly defining its inner courtyard. Therefore a new form consisting of four standalone buildings is created. Three of the objects serve as student's residence. They are connected by terraces with outdoor sport facilities. The fourth one serves as a hostel, an affordable option for temporary living. All of four objects' back sides are facing the new highway while being completely open on the opposite facade using balconies.

The project deals with the impact of the completion of outer city bypass road on Tomek Square. It does not contradict the construction of the bridge itself, but seeks to coexist with it without obeying the whole area. There is a pedestrian circuit designed to emphasize the connection between Tomek Square and the surrounding area as an alternative. The focus of the design is the construction of a multifunctional building with housing. Architecturally, the proposed residential buildings are based on two principles - open and closed. Complementing the mass of a residential building with existing buildings, defining the patency of the area with a new linear object and emphasizing the composition of mature greenery brings comfort and new use of public spaces even in the immediate vicinity of the new traffic structure.

The thesis deals with the design of the contemporary theatre building in the context of the city centre of regional character. The project presents a typologically extensive theatre operation in architectural form which, despite the importance of the building, does not by its scale disturb the spatial arrangement and context of the selected locality. The present Slovácko Theatre currently has two scenes in two different buildings that were not originally built as theatre buildings. The design of the new building is supposed to replace the provisional structures. My design of the new Slovácko Theatre building has the ambition to represent a distinctive theatre of modern operation, corresponding to the importance and capacity of the town of Uherské Hradiště. After extensive preparation and study of theatre architecture in the Czech Republic, with the application of spatial analyses and theatre typology, it was the location near the city centre that I evaluated as the most suitable for the construction of the new Slovácko Theatre.

The main topic of this diploma thesis is to solve problematic situation of the Slovac Theatre in Uherske Hradiste. Today, the progressive theater ensemble is housed in a former Sokol‘s building, which is not capable of fullfilling requirements of a complicated theatrical structure. The theater ensemble's organism is also disturbed by the separation of the studio scene outside the main theater area. The project explores the possibilities of moving the theater to a new building, which is located in Smetanovy sady, close to the historical centre of Uherske Hradiste. The design of the building responds to the environment of the regional city, the needs of a specific theater ensemble and modern theatrical procedures supported by the analysis of Czech theater architecture.

This diploma thesis is dedicated to design of the sports center and its integration into the urban structure of the city. In previous analyzes, the Sokol architecture and its typology have been examined in detail. One of the aims of the diploma thesis is to verify final hypotheses resulting from the analysis and apply them to the context of today. The project proposal takes into consideration existing built-up area around the plot, its potential, topography and also the complex traffic situation in the area. The solution is to divide the area by a mitigative traffic artery into two segments. In the northern segment there are functions of administration, accommodation and public greenery, in the southern segment there is a sport center linked to existing sports halls.
