Močičková, Jitka ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee) ; Cajthaml, Jiří (referee)
Historical Atlases 1848-1989 and Central European Area Mgr. Jitka Močičková Abstract Historical atlases are a specific type of document whose character gradually formed on the background of several traditional genres (geographical atlases, historical manuals and compendia, etc.). From their beginnings, dating back to the early modern period, they were thus on the borderline between the humanities and the natural sciences. Their significant modernisation and increase in production took place during the 19th century. Their form and content were influenced not only by the contemporary state of historical knowledge, the level of cartographic skills and technologies (printing techniques, development of colour print) but also by the education policies of individual states, as a significant part of the production of historical atlases were from the second half of the 19th century intended for the needs of school teaching (but there were also popular-educational and scientific works). The seemingly unbiased genre, which maps the past, was equally significantly imprinted with the present, especially the current political and social situation (e.g. the rise of modern nationalism or the totalitarian and authoritarian regimes of the 20th century) and therefore had undeniable persuasive potential. The primary role of...
Estate maps and their importance for the study of historical landscapes and serfdom towns
Tůmová, Martina ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor) ; Frajer, Jindřich (referee) ; Šantrůčková, Markéta (referee)
The dissertation deals with the knowledge and reconstruction of the historical landscape of the early to the upper modern period using cartographic sources, maps of the estates from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, which have not been exploited so far. It seeks answers to the questions of what changes occurred in the landscape during this period and documents them, especially on the example of the serfdom towns in Bohemia. The dissertation is interdisciplinary in nature. It tries to contribute to research in historical geography and to fit thematically into the concept of studying historical landscapes (from identification and documentation to understanding the meanings of their transformations). However, it also uses the approaches of historical cartography in the research, analysis and processing of hitherto neglected cartographic sources - sources of information about the past. Attention in the study of historical landscapes and urban history has so far been paid rather to the younger period from the mid-19th century onwards, mainly because of the availability, mostly wider possibilities of processing the necessary historical sources (topographically more accurate old maps and plans of comparative character) and the accuracy of their narrative value. The older period up to the...
Historical development of teritorial polarization of Czech lands

This diploma thesis, entitled Inner Peripheries of contemporary Prague in the archives documents - trends and sonds, deals with changes originally separated urban areas located outside Prague, which went through significant transformations during last 150 years. For this thesis three studies were selected: city districts Karlín, Libeň and Vysočany. All three peripheries were originally separated areas of rural type which were located near centre of Prague. With the arrival of industry in the middle of 19th Century they turned into heavily industrial areas, in the beginning of 20th Century merged with the capital city, thus creating Great Prague. Many changes took place also with river Vltava regulations. During last 25 years the capital city is being modernized. This modernization is connected with additional changes in peripheries: old and unused factories are demolished and new buildings are built on their places or they are converted for other purposes. Because of this there are another impacts on the surrounding landscape. This issue also concerns industrial herritage: its main purpose is preservation and protection of former industrial buildings. The main goal of this thesis is description of these changes and their impact on the landscape with using maps, pictorial and written sources.
Memoirs, historical-geographic source and the image of region (for example, the memoirs of FJ Vavák turn of the 18th and 19th centuries)
Svobodová, Zuzana ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor) ; Hojda, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis is a contribution to the still not fully explored historical-geographical aspect of regional chronicles - Memories of F. J. Vavák, neighbour and mayor of Milčice. The main goal of the thesis was analysis of the image of the region which Vavák presented in his memoirs. As a reference source was used First Military Mapping - mapping and text supplement - as a historically appropriate source. The content of the first two chapters is Vavák's bibliography and introduction of the most important domestic and international contemporary events and affairs for easier understanding of the conditions and circumstances of the genesis of both main sources. Main chapter then presents the image of the region pictured both in Vavák's Memoirs and the First Military Mapping. As the memoirs is the very extensive source, it was necessary to choose "the overarching aspects," whereby is observed the image of the region. Based on the significant features of the memoirs was chosen following terms historical-geographical, social-topographical, economic, cultural, climatological and historical. Individual aspects were sequentially analyzed and documented by examples from Memories or the text part of the First Military Mapping. Comparing the mentioned sources was found, that those at first sight very different...
