Syntax of utterances in the early production of Czech-speaking children
Řezníková, Klára ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Šebesta, Karel (referee)
(in English): The thesis focuses on the description of syntactic structures that appear in the utterances of Czech-speaking children at an early age represented by a girl aged 2;4 and a boy aged 3;3. The utterances were described in more detail in terms of clause syntax, valency syntax and the theory of semantic participants. The work also describes complex sentences and modality of children's utterances. It is evident that, while children's utterances around their 2nd birthday frequently don't express any verb, and the sentential utterances mainly consist of a subject and a predicate, by the age of 3 the children form far more complex syntactic structures. Around 44% of sentence utterances at this age consist of four- and five-words, and the most frequent structure is a combination of subject, predicate and adverbial location. At the same time, around the 3rd birthday, the child is able to express complex valency frameworks in the target form and to add complexity to the structures by facultative arguments.
Scientific opinions on so-called critical period in language acquisition
Fenclová, Tereza ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (advisor) ; Šimík, Radek (referee)
Diploma thesis deals with the question of how the so-called critical period (sensitive period) in language acquisition is conceptualized in the literature. The thesis attempts to summarize the current views on the so-called critical period and compare them with Lenneberg's form of the theory (Lenneberg 1967). It also examines the arguments that have been used to support and oppose the existence of the critical period (e.g. the issue of the innateness and modularity of language, language deprivation), identifies the thematic areas in which the notion of a critical period is applied (e.g., first language acquisition, second language acquisition, bilingualism, language acquisition in deaf people), and seeks to capture the specifics of the theory in each of these areas. The selected topic area, the critical period in the second language context, is treated in more detail. Keywords: critical period, language acquisition, L1, L2
The Concept ÚSPĚCH ("SUCCESS") in Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary School Students' Linguistic Picture of the World
Cinkrautová, Karolína ; Janovec, Ladislav (advisor) ; Pacovská, Jasňa (referee) ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (referee)
The topic of the dissertation is the concept of ÚSPĚCH ("SUCCESS)" in the linguistic picture of the world of Czech students. We consider the research aimed at a deeper understanding of the linguistic picture of the world of children and youth to be highly topical, which corresponds to the current trends in the field of linguistics and didactics. Theoretically and methodologically, it is based on cognitive linguistics and Polish ethnolinguistics, linguistic disciplines focused on the research of the relationship between language and culture, which work with the concept of a linguistic picture of the world. The thesis also draws on American cognitive linguistics, which studies the theory of conceptual metaphor, as well as Czech and foreign didactic applications of the theoretical foundations of cognitive linguistics. The thesis aims to reconstruct the linguistic picture of ÚSPĚCH ("SUCCESS") in a specific group of Czech native speakers - lower secondary and upper secondary school students. The analysis of dictionary, textual and empirical data obtained through a specifically designed questionnaire led to the construction of a cognitive definition of ÚSPĚCH ("SUCCESS") and the reconstruction of the stereotype of a successful person on the basis of semantic aspects (profiles) and metaphors through...

Comparison of Czech and Slovak proverbs based on the paremiological minimum
Michálek, Jiří ; Kopřivová, Marie (advisor) ; Saicová Římalová, Lucie (referee)
The work focuses on the comparison of the most frequently used proverbs in Czech and Slovak. Based on the paremiological minimums of Schindler (1993) and Ďurčo (2005) a "paremiological minumum of Czech and Slovak" was created, including 37 pairs of proverbs. The data collection took place in a subcorpus of Czech corpus syn_v11 and Slovak subcorpus prim-10.0-public-vyv. The subcorpuses were adjusted to have a balanced representation of different types of text. The aim of this work is to compare the frequency and variants of the 37 proverbs in Czech and Slovak. The most frequent variants of Czech proverbs are also divided based on their text type (newspapers nad journals, fiction and science). The prediction is high appearance of proverbs in newspapers and journals. The work is a first step to a systematic comparison of Czech and Slovak proverbs.
